Anyone encosed a carport before?

If so, what did you use for the siding? I am thinking about regular pine 1 X 6's as I have a brick ranch and am trying to decide what would look best. Its a double carport that we are enclosing on 2 sides. What are the best kinds of doors to use? Also what did you pay?

Here in my area I have seen people use siding, wooden shingle type material, and brick. What kind of doors do you want and are you planning on putting in windows? My garage is enclosed and no windows were added and it's so damn dark. Great for a dungeon but sucks as a family room.

I am thinking of using hardiplank as the siding. Brick would be nice as my whole house is brick, but its so darn expensive. I am using either aluminum or steel roll up doors and I am using 2 seperate instead of 1 big. I am also using standard size windows.

you can get floor plans online and also the cost of materials with most floor plans.

Hardiplank sux to work with...let alone inhale...I have worked with it before...though it will last forever...

If you use plain pine 1x6 instead of hard plank, you can have them shiplapped then lay them up so they look like (and shed weather like) clapboards.

Much easier to handle if you paint/stain them before you put them up, btw.

Are the ceiling joists strong enough to support actual side walls? You might check the local codes first if you haven't.

Gotta build a dungeon with something. Carport make great options, clear span so the floor isn't wasn't with support beams, cheap and easy to put up. Can reinforce the walls for restraints. Plus the nosy old lady next door won't think twice about it.
