Anyone else need "real" inspiration?

Hi.

Just wondering if any other authors actually "need" real inspiration before they write?

I have submitted seven poems. Feedback has been great. Only one person replied with stupidity. I corrospond via email with several who have responded. They want more. Not personal to them, just more of my work, similar to what they've seen.

*giggle*

It's poetry for crying-out-loud! I can't do it, as much as I'd love too, I can't.

Sure, I can write about what I did last night, just as I would in a chat. However, for the real stuff... I need my muse, himself, to inspire me!

Any one else have this problem? What do you do about it?

Thanks in advance.

The Muse

R -

Yes, the muse needs to come calling. Fortunately for me, she calls a lot. Most of the time, I can't pin down the why or where of it, but there are a couple of places where the Muse visits all the time (for me anyhow) and I do have some thoughts about how that works.

In the shower and behind the wheel.

These are the two places where a lot of good ideas just pop into my head. No, I don't need a long shower or a hot shower, and no, I don't need a long drive.

When I try to force it, it never works. So, in these two situations, I just clear my mind of all my concerns and sort've "zen" out. I'm simply showering or I'm simply driving. I'm not driving to be inspired because I know that will not work.

It works best for me early in the day, but I have had inspiration come to me in these two places at other times of day. Morning just seems to be a time when I'm more in touch with the...to put a woo-woo term on it...Astral plane. Which is what I think of as that place somewhere between consciousness and sleep.

Anyway, find the place where you just "Zen" and the Muse will come a-knockin'.

My muse is real.

Thanks.

I get writing ideas and stuff in both of those same places, usually driving. I rush to my pad and a pen and write. I'm old-fashioned.

However, when it comes to writing erotic literature, my muse (my guy) has to inspire me. It has to be from "doing the deed". Or... by putting too much effort planning something fun. ;) And getting myself excited.

Just a simple example:
My poem "My First Taste" about giving a blow job, really was my first time. *blush* Twelve days ago.

Perhaps I should move into stories? Poetry is more of a spiritual connection with the need to put emotion and thought into words. Like free prose.

Or, I should wait for more experience to draw on.

Thanks so much for replying. Glad I'm not the only one who seeks my pen after an inspiring drive.

All at once

Do whatever. Do what your heart tells you.

Here's one for poetry or inspiration behind the wheel. Since even my short trips in LA are usually long, I phone it in to my machine while driving.

Don't lose the moment, and it's right on my desk waiting when I get back to the computer.

Taped thoughts.

Yes. I think it could just be the poetry. Or the subject. I'll figure it out, eventually.

I live in a really rural area. I love being able to tape ideas, esp. dialogue, right when it comes to me. But, lo, I could not find a recording tape player in the area that was portable.

I didn't want a huge boombox. Soooo... I have a Fisher-Price player/recorder/sing along. I'll do anything to keep that moment of creativity, even buy kiddie toys!

Silly, but it works.

:) Thanks.

My muse.........

I've also written a great deal of poetry....though I only have one
(erotic) poem posted here.

However....it never fails that when I am going through some crisis, or some incredibly joyous event, that's when I write my best poems as well as the majority of them.

So...make me happy, make me sad

I start writing...good or bad.

Poetic Strife and Vital Life

Same here. Almost all my poetry is written from and to express emotion.

I'd written 70+ poems (since 11/96) before I wrote my first erotic poem.

I enjoyed the experiences, or in one case, planned it, and just wrote what I felt. I just didn't enjoy much of my life before this year. :( It's a new experience.

I like how the erotic work comes off. It is sometimes as powerful as my sorrowful/depressive works. What I hate, is the sappy, sickeningly sweet, love poems I've started writing! I wonder if love is worth losing my dark, brooding poetic personality? ;) I always suspected Emily Dickenson simply needed to get laid.

Thanks for replying. It's nice to know I am not the only one who harvests poetry from the seeds life has sown.

Love poems.....

Don't even go there......I have a <thick> manila envelope filled with "Love poems"....anytime I need a good laugh, all I have to do is browse through the folder, look at a few of my prebuescent
teenage (blue-balls) love poems, and suddenly....I feel a whole lot better.

And the worst part? I can still remember the first poem I ever wrote by heart. And that was over forty years ago........

Young Love..

Oh! I didn't do much poetic work at that age. Stuck to high fantasy, sword and sorcery, stuff.

I still work at that. It is work now, even if I love every bit of it.

The poetry seems to just happen. I should probably let it lie at that and not forrce it.

Those love poems are good for a laugh, for me. He likes them. What a mistake sharing them with him was!! I'll never be able to buy a Hallmark, now.
