Anyone been to Burning Man?

You mean that cheap, Johnny come lately, rip-off of The Burning of Zozobra?

Zozobra

Nah, why would I want to go to some cheap ass copy cat shit that has NO history at all?

Yeah! Why would I want to go to a huge party filled with naked women roaming around on bicycles????

You could pay somebody to sniff the seats for you.

It would be a shame to fuck up sniffing a sweet and sweaty bike seat.

I had plans to about 15-ish years ago but never really pulled it together. It's difficult in my experience to find enough like-minded, moxied, creative and adventurous people who will endure the various hardships and really do it up right. I usually can't even pull people together for a weekend ski trip, so the challenge of the burning man, which was somewhat the point of it, was always a bit prohibitive. Of course I could just go alone and not contribute any art but that doesn't really get me off proper.

Maybe now as an older dude I'd do it with money, in a big winnecooper with comfortable beds and A/C. This might work if I could turn it into an open oasis for weary souls replete with elegant libations and a peekaboudoir.

I did go to an Austin-based one around that time called Burning Flipside, I see they are still going strong. It was a truly enjoyable event. All love and creative energy.

Maybe someone who has been to the original Burning Man recently can clear something up for me. I volunteered a few years ago with a friend who does ADA coordination for outdoor events. He described that Burning Man organizers asked him to design accessibility solutions that would allow wheel chairs and assisting devices to navigate to various parts of the event including the main stage and concessions. WTF? Main stage? Concessions? I insisted he was thinking of another festival but he was adamant. I told him of course that the Burning Man I knew would never have any of these things and the point was that the community would find solutions to get those in need where they needed to go. What he was describing flew in the face of the whole affair. Has it really become corporate after all this time?

Just how does that work? The guys stand in the middle and the girls ride around in a big circle and you just pick out the one you want and take her back to the tent? Or do they wear numbers and you bid on them (the results of that could be devastating to the ego of some poor, insecure, young thing)?

Or you could just go to S. Beach where they ride around almost naked all day and walk around mostly naked and drunk every night. <shrug>

Because they are unshaved hippie chicks who haven't showered in a week?

Water costs ten dollars a bottle?

Tickets are 500 or some shit?

It's in the middle of the desert and you'll be picking sand out of your ears for weeks.

Anyone I have talked too that thought they would dig it and went, hated it.
