Has anybody tken a two-year-old to see Dinosaur? My granddaughter wants to go and her Mom is worried it might be too scary for a two-year-old (actually two and a half)

I haven't seen it yet, WH, but if I had a two and a half year old, I wouldn't take her. The previews look pretty realistic, and it doesn't look like the typical wacky cute animation that usually comes from Disney.

However, take into consideration that I'm pretty conservative when it comes to kids, especially when the issue is things that are too mature for them. I had first graders in my class who saw Titanic when it came out, and that shocked me. Ditto Jurassic Park where people got devoured by dinosaurs.

Now, granted Dinosaur is no Jurassic Park, but for a two and a half year old you'd be better off waiting until Rugrats Go to Paris comes out.

The problem there, is that she's not into rugrats. She's nuts about Pokemon, and is more interested in seeing Dinosaur than The Tigger Movie. Strange since she can't sleep without Tigger tucked in with her.

Your thoughts do parallel her Mom's though.

It's a PG film and much too scary for a 2 year old. Some 5 year olds will have problems with it. Get her the Mcdonal's hand-puppet toys and rent Land Before Time instead.

Weird Harold;
I haven't seen the Dinosaur movie yet, but a friend of mine has. And she says it is a good movie one of disney's better ones. But too scary for a two year old. I would suggest you get some of the land before time videos for her they are far less scary. And she may enjoy the music too with them. I know my kids still watch them and we have had 1-4 for a couple of years now. Hope this helps .

If her mother doesn't think she's ready, she probably isn't. I think it depends entirely on the child, though. Some kids are just naturally bloodthirsty.

My own daughter loved Greek mythology as bedtime stories, and would often ask for "Arachne" as the story of choice. She loved monsters and dinosaurs, and had no problem with people being eaten; after all, monsters eat people.

That's my own experience, and I wouldn't presume to dictate others. The figures are good, and maybe a picture book tying into the movie.

WH, I'm in New York right now and my roommate brought my nine year old daughter to see it. She said it was scary and she was almost raised on horror movies (blame her grandfather!). So...I'm gonna vote no for a two year old.

I'd agree with creamlady here; it definitely depends on the child. I have been watching horror movies since I was four, and my niece since she was two(she's almost 6 now). She absolutely begs to see them. She has a good grasp on reality though. She knows that "things in the tv aren't real". She was never one of those scared kinda kids though. No boogie man fears, or need for a nightlight, and her bedtime stories have to be scary.
Every kid is different though. Some of her little friends get petrified when they see a bug, so...to each their own.

Hey there Weird Harold, how about taking the granddaughter to see the Flintstones movie, we caught it last night at the drive in and it was a good kids movie. All the kids there loved it......Hey just a thought.
