This Sunday is the annual Academy Awards. Just like previous years, there are already names/movies "missing" from the various nominations.

Is there any nomination that you feel a sentimental attachment to?

In my case, I would really love Ron Howard to win as best director for "A Beautiful Mind".:rose:

MOULIN ROUGE!!!!!! I loved that movie and i think Nicole Kidman is so beautiful.Plus i am a bit upset Baz Lurman is'nt up fo best director. Now lets all CanCan:kiss:

I very much enjoyed Moulin Rouge, but Baz Lurman doesn't deserve Best Director -- he deserves "Most" Director.

I'd like to see Robert Altman get a nod.

Is there any wonder why DCL is the legend he is?

Honestly this year is one of the worst years for oscars I can remember. 4 or five movies that I thought were absolutely terrible(Moulin Rouge, Beautiful Mind, Training Day and I am Sam) are nominated for multiple awards.

The oscars are getting worse than the Grammys.

Well - I'd love to see Ron Howard win an oscar - but I haven't seen Beautiful Minds yet and I hear its over-rated.

Of the movies I have seen though - I'm rooting for Moulin Rouge - one of the best movies I've seen in ages... one of the few movies I'd see again...

We should have a Lit Acadamy awards party on Sunday night... have a thread here and all get together and rag on the show while we watch it...

Am I a bad person?

Because I couldn't possibly care one iota LESS about who wins in any of these awards shows?

The only interesting thing is watching actors get political and show their total convictions and lack of intelligence at the same time... or threaten to leave the country if so and so wins this election or that one of it this law doesn't get passed.

Or maybe it's just me...

It isn't just you RawHumor. I didn't even know they were on this weekend. And now that I do, I will probably forget. :)

True Raw.. All the Oscars are is just celebrities patting eachother's asses. Thats why i would rater watch the MTV awards any old day. Though i was suprised because this year i have seen about ever movie nominated in the top catagories. Anyone else hear about the smear campaign against "A beautiful mind"? If you havent basicly a bunch of people came out and dissed Ron Howard and Crowe because the man who is played by russell crowe was real and a scitzo and thought he was gay and the mayor of antartica ETC. and the movie didn't include it. ETC.BullshitETC. Someone said that to get hollywood's panties in a bundle and now ......blah blah (more bull shit). I didn't see beautiful mind though cause i spent that nite seeing monsters ball (AGAIN)

Back to the thread

I would love for Moulin Rouge to win the best picture award. All that excellent work should be rewarded.

Either Halle Berry or Sissy Spacek can win best actress I don't care. Nicole was good, but . . .

Best actor - Denzel, by far :D

And those are the only awards that I care about.

I'd love to see Memento win for best script, as I thought it was the most ingenious script since The Usual Suspects.

I'm rooting for Gosford Park to win everything it's nominated for as well (which is impossible, unless Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren tie for best supporting actress; if I had to choose one, I'd choose Mirren, though).

Great choices!

I usually help the local bar mark ballots in a pool! Wonder how many "surprises" will actually happen! Vegas' odds have Denzel Washington and Halle Berry far ahead as the winners.:rose:

You go Laurel! LOTR has to win either best director or best movie, it must. Why must it?

How often have you heard the phrase: It wasn't as good as the book.

Movies are never as good as the book, it would have to be a pretty sad book. But to pull off what they did, capture 95% of the original tale, and do it so well. It was nearly as good as the book. In my mind that deserves a nod for director or movie.

I was about in tears when Arwen called forth the river to wash away the Nazgul. Earnestly reciting the spell in Elvish. It was so beautiful, someone finally got it right!

Gandalf, he rocked my world, best wizard performance to date.

"You, shall not pass!"

I certainly would like to see Ron Howard get an Award. I would also like to see Denzel win for Best Actor,(even though I'm fairly certain it will go to Crowe.) For Best Picture-LOTR,(because, I think it has the least chance of getting it,) but, again, I have a fairly good idea A Beautiful Mind will get it.
