Are there any native Spanish speakers around? I'm working on a couple of stories and could use some help. I've had college spanish but I think my dialogue is a bit stilted. I've tried Babelfish but it doesn't like some of the words I want translated!

My character speaks English fluently but sometimes lapses into Spanish during the heat of romance.

Our resident Mexican just happens to be out of the country, but there may be someone else here that can help.

I believe Perdita will be back after the New Year, in which case, you might solicit her help.

Babelfish isn't good for word endings, sometimes, and is lousy for swearing or sex words.

You really ought to run the thing past a native speaker, but there are several cool books about swearing and whatnot in Spanish. My favorite is ¡Mierda!. It is available through http://www.penguin.com/ and is by Frances de Talavera Berger. Subtitle: the real Spanish you were never taught in school...

There's a whole series of those. Merde!, for example, and Scheisse! all with roughly the same subtitle. A treasure. You should realize that street Spanish is not monolithic. Puerto Rico Spanish says these things differently from Colombian or Mexican Spanish.

Thanks, Lucky. I'll see if I can catch up with Perdita next week.

Cantdog, thanks for the tip on the book. I had no idea  Guess I need to get out more. I realize that different countries speak differently. That's why I cleverly have not assigned my character a nationality ;) other than the fact that he's Latin, not a Spaniard.

And along the same lines, is there a sex thesaurus out there? I find myself using the same words over and over and the thesaurus in Word is pretty limited.

Thanks y'all,

Katie

A newcomer called Spanish Senorita just introduced herself in a thread not far away. I wouldn't be too surprised of she knew a few Spanish words. :)

Make it the week after - she's not home until Jan 11 or thereabouts.

A lady much missed around these parts, Whispersecret, wrote some useful 'How-To' pieces. Have a look at her Erotic Synonyms for ideas.

In the same general area, have a look at the 'How-To' category on Lit. There are some gems there.
