That did occur to me, actually! But it's an easy reference to cite, and I didn't feel like digging up an alternative. I checked the relevant articles quickly and they were in line with what I know, so I left it in there. And actually, I heard an article on NPR recently saying that Wikipedia's self-policing is improving, and it's becoming a genuine competitor to Britannica. So I think many articles can be trusted; not those tagged NPOV of course, but just because Wikipedia is user-generated doesn't mean it can't have reliable information or be used as a source. Actually, it's not the correct term, which is why the medical community has been steering away from "hermaphrodite" for the past 20-30 years. The correct generic catch all is "intersexed" which is also starting to fall by the wayside as they devise medically accurate terms for a person's state of being. For example, and androgen insensitive male who develops breasts at puberty may be considered intersexed as he (or frequently she, depends on how they identify) because he exhibits secondary sexual characteristics of mature males and females. (IE, breasts and a penis and testicles.) However, one variety of Turner's Syndrome comes from having only complete chromosome. She may never develop a female form at all, and has no male characteristics, yet she is still considered interesexed by some.


Perhaps you should stop posting while imbibing, and educate yourself as to what you're looking for. You'll probably have better luck that way.
