Anyone in Wyoming? I'm heading to a little bitty town near Sheridan. Never been to Wyoming. Anyone in the area?

Damn girl - that is like bumfuckegypt - travel to the Pacific Northwest! ;)

I so agree. But it will be interesting since I've never been there. And fingers crossed, a sale will go through in the near future to Seattle and I'll head exactly that way! Although, looks like the next trip after this may be upstate New York.

I'm jealous! Wyoming is an outrageously beautiful state.

If you have the chance, take pictures, BG. Post them here. :)

Desert Rose was born there I think. I'd love to go as long as it wasn't winter.

Wyoming has some varied and beautiful scenery... from the Great Plains in the eastern part of the state to the Rockies in the west, it's the home of Devil's Tower National Monument (of Close Encounters of the Third Kind fame) and Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Yellowstone is about 4 hours drive west, mostly on US 14, from Sheridan. If you want to spend a couple of days in the Yellowstone area, Moran Junction or Jackson, Wyoming might be good places to stay where you can spend time in Yellowstone and Grand Teton...

Devil's Tower is about 2 hours down I-90 to the east of Sheridan. As long as you are in the area you might as well catch some of the spectacular sights!

Wyoming is, indeed, a lovely place BG. And think of the importance of your visit: you'll be increasing the population by 20% just by crossing the border into the state. ;)

The town I'm traveling to is the smallest town in the US to have a YMCA. And there's only one car rental place at the Sheridan airport that is open on Sunday - I was afraid I'd be stuck there with no transporation! But I'm excited since I've never been there. I'm just a hick girl from South Alabama, so going to Wyoming is exciting. How silly is that? I'm staying in an historical hotel that apparently was a bordello until 1976. Should be a lot of fun. Work, but some fun, too. And yes, JM, I plan to take some pics. If I can steal my digital camera away from my 13yo long enough.

ETA: If it were summer, EG, I'd take my daughter and visit Yellowstone - one of my co-workers has a condo in Big Sky, Montana, that we could use. But since it isn't summer and she can't go, I probably won't stay over for the visit.

Next trip after this is probably early summer to upstate New York - small town North of Albany. That will be a new one for me, too.

Ah, this could be gorgeous. Just an hour or so north of Albany is the Saratoga Springs resort area that's just east of the Adirondack National Forest. I drove through there twice last summer and it's stunningly pretty country.

I think the town in NY is Groversville or something like that. Maybe a bit Northwest of Albany? Is that in the area you're talking about?

Less than an hour northwest of Albany and you're in the Adirondack National Forest. All the towns there are small, scenic, and somewhat isolated. Driving through the area is a bit tedious because the roads are all curves and and have only two lanes. Get stuck behind a slow truck and it's a long day behind the wheel. But - and this is important - if you relax and look out the window it's like driving through post card land.

<raises hand> I'm close to where you're going. Just utterly puzzled as to why you'd be going to, as someone put it, BFE. Sale? Anyway, feel free to PM me. :)

So I'm off tomorrow morning and they tell me that it snowed a little this week. Oh goodie. It hit 99 in Phoenix this week. Think I'll be warm enough in my bomber jacket?

Next trip: Gloversville, New York in June. I'm wondering why it can't be someplace like Oahu.

Good luck! I hope you have fun. :) And the snow has already melted where I'm at.

They did tell me it melted quickly. But still . . . snow. After the temps here this week, will be a huge change for me. I've been wearing shorts and Tevas. Had to dig out my leather jacket.

Am in Wyoming, not near Sheridan, though. Think state university.

If you do plan on hitting Devil's Tower, I've been told that it's much better if you just look at it from the highway. Actually entering the park will get you close to the monument, but you won't get the picturesque, "Close Encounters" photo ops.

And aside from the snow, right now is probably my second-favorite time of the year. The place is still pretty brown, least in my corner, but it's not to hot and it isn't too cold. (Also, we have the lowest average gas prices in the nation, at something like 3 bucks a gallon. Enjoy it and the weather while you're here.)

Yes, there's still snow on the ground and it was amazingly beautiful from the sky. But it's not as cold as I expected. Now, if the clouds would just move out of here and the drizzle would stop, I'd be happy. Oh yeah, and NOTHING is open here on Sunday.

Welcome to Wyoming. Now maybe someone can understand why, as much as I love the land, I can't wait to leave.

It is beautiful here. But for a visit. I'm not sure I could live here. I am not a cold weather person. You should come to Phoenix. Lots to do there.

I have friends who's parents live there. They brought me back some geodes (non-sparkly ones) after a visit down there years ago. :) You should see about fossil or rock hunting while you're here. That's quite popular. Lots to find.

Oh my gosh. I just had by far the best steak I've ever eaten in my life. Holy cow, who would have thought that I'd have to travel to a teeny tiny town in Wyoming to get it! It is so pretty here, JM, and I've taken a few pics. I'm hoping to take more, and will upload them next weekend when I'm home.
