I'm going to see Black Dahlia tonight. Not that I really want to but... it's a date and I sorta said "yea, sure. sounds like a good one." You know, I'm such a sucker subbie somtimes. (Side note: I really wanted to see Hollywoodland and I think I might take Jane tomorrow night to see it.)
Actually, this movie, from the reviews I've read, is not all that good.
I'm a true crime addict. I especially like the lust murder stuff and I've read everything of substance about the Black Dahlia. James Ellroy wrote the book that this movie is based on and he's a great author (L.A. Confidential - which I love, as well as the movie).
But I just finished this book... Black Dahlia Avenger by Steve Hodel. I think it's the definative book/theory on this case. I emailed this author after I read his book. (His website is blackdahliaavenger.com) He replied!!!! and it was a personal email, not some computer generated thingy. His book has been sold to New Line Cinema. I can't wait for a movie to come out. Most people would find his book dry. But I think a good movie could result from it.
Interesting connection between Hodel and Ellroy; Ellroy's mother was murdered in the 50's and Hodel contends that the Dahlia murderer was also the likely murderer of Geneva Ellroy. The 2 men have since become good friends.
Okay... I gotta go. He's here...
Shit... typos. Made him wait 'til I fixed them. ;-)
