Another Stanley Cup Final, another Canadian humiliation

Are you sure about that?

that's what i was thinking. for an entire country that has the most players in the league, they sure do suck at running teams.

ferfuxsake, the tampa bay lightning could have 2 championships by the end of the weekend since 2003.

Imagine NFL football with Manchester United or Liverpool winning consecutive Super Bowls and no US Team winning on the last 25 years. But 50% of the winning team and league players in general were Americans.

Should/Would America feel good about that?

In the 103 years of the NHL, Canadian teams have claimed the cup 43 times.

Canadian teams have always been in the league minority, with only two of the original 6 being the highest percentage of teams in the league ever ( 33 percent of the teams).

Those US teams, who are playing on them?

I look at it this way... the Canadian people love hockey but they can only cheer for individual players because their teams are garbage. So yeah, the Canucks as a people and a country are humiliated.

For almost 3 decades.

The fact that small market teams and teams located in Canada are at an economic disadvantage in general has been missed. (Canadian teams pay their players in US dollars.)

Why do you think that major pro sports teams based in "large" markets such as New York, L.A., London England, etc. are so much more successful at their respective sports?

Actually the result is from the Harold Ballard years. He discovered while owning the Maple Leafs, that he didn't need to put a cup winning team on the ice. Just be competitive and you make as much if not more money than a "cup" winning team.

The other small market Canadian teams have all kind of followed suit. ( the Wayne Gretzky trade as an example of not needing to win cups to make money)

The leafs hold 13 championships More than any American team. (worth $1.5 billion )
Montreal Canadians hold the most with 24 championships (worth $1.34 Billion)

Nearest American team...Detroit Red Wings with 11 ( worth $800 million)

Agreed BnB

1 United States Dollar equals 1.34 Canadian Dollar (a/o - 9/25/2020)

That is why I don't think of it as "another Canadian humiliation" but rather a sad commentary on what happens when literally everything is reduced to a price tag.

$100 USD is about $128 CAD give or take. So long to the days at par. Hasn’t been close in the past few years.

Dallas?
Tampa Bay?

What Americans don't understand...this is a sore point with Joe Canada. Wanna start a fight? Pick a bar in Canada...any bar. Your choice. Go in and make this point. Do it. Then get back with me how it "doesn't matter"...and "small market".

Apart from the German national sport, the very first International sporting event took place in New York in 1844. A crowd of 20,000 enthusiastic Americans turned out to witness the United States team well beaten by Canada. :)

AND... where are they playing this years Playoffs?.... Canada. Finals in Edmonton. Because American MORONS can't get their shit together over a virus and follow basic science, instead listening to an orange moron.

It should be ALL of the USA that is humiliated over it's incompetent response to this virus and electing a complete buffoon.

Canada was a good choice for the bubbles. Canada benefitted from the hotel rooms, meals, and associated fees over the months. Good for Canada.

The US is in a shitty place wrt the virus but we are not alone on that stage. Just ask Montreal.

NHL isn't Canadian hockey, it's American hockey, always has been.

The Canadians playing NHL hockey have always been cheap migrant skilled labor to the owners and the league they own and control; the migrants get paid in USD, so at home they are rich, even though it's the poorest pro american sport.

(American) NHL hockey is violent. Their Rules make it that way to satisfy american blood lust. ( they should add Open Carry to boost audience!)

The game as played by Hockey Canada rules, by contrast, is beautiful to play and watch.

Montreal is the perfect model of "don't do what we are doing" The worst in all of Canada. Way to go...

While I agree with you that we have an issue here the NBA has zero cases in their bubble over time.

I don’t really care for either team this year. :(

I agree with most of this but that doesn't explain why the other American sport's championships are being played in the United States. MLB is in Texas, NBA in Floriday, NFL in Vegas.

We are merely throwing our hat a bone and allowing you to watch how proper hockey clubs are run and play hockey, Shark.
