Another site ripping off stories.

First off, thanks to Roxanne Appleby for posting this site in the "Disappearing Votes" thread. Scan through the titles and see if anything looks familiar. I understand if it's posted here, Laurel will go to bat for you. Mine were posted on another site, so I've got to do it myself.

Don't forget to use the links at the top to navigate to other sections of the site. I hope none of you got ripped off, but there's six of my stories up there, from other story sites.

None are mine, but I do think a few of those were from Lit. Some titles seem familiar.

As far as I'm aware, Nifty as a site, doesn't steal stories (I post mine there and on Lit), there's a fairly rigourous posting system. If any stories have been stolen, it's the 'authors' who have stolen them. It might be worthwhile contacting Nifty directly, but they do have this section in their 'Submission Notes to Authors':

License

Legal stuff: Authors retain rights to and title to their submitted works. By submitting a work, the author grants the Nifty Archive a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and non-cancellable license to display the work. (If this is unacceptable, please contact us to discuss your concern.)

Authors may license their stories to other publishers, but that does not revoke the license granted to the Nifty Archive. Authors may reclaim the license granted to Nifty by replacing a story with an equivalent story appropriate for display in the Nifty Archive, or by making a contribution to the Nifty Archive of equal value in another form.

The maintainers of the Archive will respect requests for changes to stories, to attribution, and/or to email addresses in the Archive by the original author of the work. Decisions to honor requests to remove a work from public display are determined on a case-by-case basis. This does not nullify, terminate, or revoke any license granted to the Nifty Archive. Updates and changes will propagate to all Nifty mirror sites within a day or two.

Only submit a story if you are the author or explicitly have permission from the author to submit the story for display on Nifty. Do not remove or replace another author's or poster's attribution from a story submission.

I know of several Lit authors who post their stories on both sites. I used to.

It might not be plageurism.

I realize that as a stranger to this forum, my word is automatically suspect and that the admin at Nifty probably doesn't knowingly rip off stories. I apologize for not being clear. But here are the facts.

I have never submitted to Nifty. I had not even heard of them until the other thread.

Six of my stories ARE there.

I am able to prove that 4 of them appeared on public erotic sites before they appeared on Nifty. The site where I had placed number 5 is now defunct, we think. The URL hasn't worked in months and emails sent to their submit address bounces. Which is a pity, since that's the only contact addy I had. Number 6 was posted to a private yahoo group/story archive. On that one, the list owner is contacting Nifty for me, so that the thief can be tossed out on her literal ear. They've actually mass emailed our writers to check it out.

Someone (or someones) has taken my work and put their name on it and submitted it to Nifty with or without their knowlege.

As a semi-professional courtesy, I thought it best to give the authors at Lit a heads up that this is going on. It seems okay for a regular to do this, but newbs need not bother.

I'll keep that in mind next time.

Greetings, gargouille, welcome to the AH (and what a great name!). I don't think you were being snooted because you are new, but because your initial post suggested that it was the site itself stealing stories, rather than one particular plagiarist.

See how we could have gotten that idea?

In the mean time, go get 'em! If any of the stories there were copied from Lit, PM Laurel with links to the originals and the fakes, and she'll go after your cheap imitator.

Best wishes in having the perp tracked down and banned from Nifty.

Yes I do see, hence the apology and the elaboration. I guess that's what I get for drive by posting, eh! I was pressed for time when I posted that yesterday, so it was a "one more thing and then I'm outta here." sort of thing.

I don't know if the perp will be banned from Nifty, but he will be banned from the yahoo group. They notify ISP's too. :nana:

Most folks don't get the name, they just assume I can't spell. Thanks lilred...

My apologies Gar(gouille), I wasn't meaning to be terse or superior. I was merely pointing out that there are some sites where the sites themselves steal our stories (it's happened to me), but in this case, I do believe that Nifty has no knowledge of the thefts.

On reflection my post was a bit short and sudden, it wasn't meant to be, like you, I was on my way out, and just wanted to post.

Welcome aboard, just sorry it couldn't have been with a slightly lighter subject matter.

'Auntie' Mat

Thanks Mat. Again, my apologies...

Unfortunately, Nifty is disinclined to remove anything, even though I have provided them links to the originals. They want to give the putative authors a chance to "clarify" things. The rational part of me says that's fair and cool and no problem. The irrational reptile mind part of me is chanting "blood, BLOOD" and wanting to get all non-consensual on their pixels.

I'm not sure what's going on with the one that was ripped off of the Yahoo group. They haven't tracked down who stole it, since the user name doesn't match any of ours.

Jammies, I started out in Canada, but I haven't lived there for some years. Though I did make it home for Thanksgiving this year.

Nothing from me, but I have only one same-sex story, and a couple of group-sex ones with FF. Not in tune with the site, so much.
