Did you PM Laurel?

I'm happy to not make this list (no pregnant stories) but it always makes me so damn angry when these sites take our work.

Grrrrrr!

I did a Google search on one of my story titles about three weeks ago, and found 28 hits. I got all indignant about it, but then it occurred to me that I really don't much care.

I put that story up for free on Literotica, and, aside from the mild ego strokes I might get by having other webmasters ask me for permission to use it on their site, it doesn't much matter to me if someone wants to reprint it or download it or anything. My name's still on the story, and any publicity is better than no publicity at all. I'd rather have my stuff splashed all over than have it stuck in this one little corner of the internet.

I mean, it's not like they're taking money out of my pocket, or that I'm going to convince them to cut me in on a slice of their profits, so I really can't get that excited about this.

Another site is posting one of my stories as a serial with a new chapter every fortnight. They have just posted Chapter 15 and have announced Chapter 16 is coming on July 12th. They didn't ask my permission but they have at least acknowledged me as the author.

It is one of the few stories on the site; it appears to be a dating agency rather than a literary site.

I could complain to them but to be honest, I'm actually quite flattered.

My stories

How about a brief, two-to-three-line bio, including an addy.

That way, if your story is stolen -- as long as they leave your name/addy on the story, you may even get more feedback?

Heck, if you tell them where to read more, even Literotica gets additional publicity.

Of course, I don't think I will ever have to worry about story theft. If I get one I'm willing to publish, I don't think any site will actually want it.

Not even Lit.

I'm not flattered.

If they would only ask, I would probably grant permission (and make certain there was a link back to Lit for feedback, etc.).

But they don't ask. It's theft, pure and simple. These site owners are trolling around the free erotic story sites, picking and choosing titles and words to help them make money.

And every time it happens to me it pisses me off.

Damn, now I'm depressed, my stories aren't even worth stealing.:(

I have just done a google search on 'oggbashan'.

Nearly 1400 hits, all related to me, and only five authorised by me.

Most are on paid-for sex sites. I don't know what the customers will make of some of my stories. I don't write for 'teenage anal sluts', nor 'lesbian gang-bangers'.

Most turn up because I put a copyright message at the beginning of my stories - they don't even remove it, just add their own copyright details as well.

I suppose I should be pleased that people actually want my stories.

The story is free on the site in question but I presume you have to pay to register if you are looking for a partner. It would have been better, had they asked but it is no big deal.

Don't be! My story might have been stolen although they did show my addy. But judging by the absence of feedback, no-one's reading it anyway!

Which brings me to another point. After almost two years on Literotica my first story has just registered 100,000 'hits'. Is there a benchmark for such things?

You are much nicer than me. :) I don't agonize over it like I used to but it still makes me mad. Once I found some stories on a site I had to pay to join in order to read my story!! Growl!! (Laurel took care of it and teased me about hoping I never got angry with her.)

Nothing happened for me but I kind of thought a bumper sticker would be fun. You know, something like

100K+ Lit-Erotica Customers

Sex is Great! Ask Me How!

If You Can Read My Porn, Thank a Teacher!

or - well, you get the idea. I like it, though it may be difficult to explain to my colleagues . . . :D

If other porn sites are stealing stories it is just as easy for anybody to steal them and try to make money off of it. There IS a market for Erotica. Or they could rewrite it, toned down into romance.

How you going to catch them unless you read every single story that gets printed, by every single publisher in the world.. I mean theft is theft, and anything is possible.

Those porn sites that have stolen some of your stories make money, or else they wouldn't be online. They have no rights to anything they've stolen, and some of you said that the sites have not removed your notice of rights just added their own. That is also illegal. Its stolen property, they have no rights to it in the first place. The only way anyone else gains any sort of rights to your work is by buying that piece of work from you. Even then, it still shows who it was written by.

I, personally, would go after these people and make them take the stories down. Due to the fact that they stole them, and the simple fact that all they would've had to do in most cases was ask permission. They think they would have to pay writers for stories, they don't realize that some authors want publicity.. People never think on a barter system anymore..

I just found one of mine on another site. I think it's a free site but I'm not sure. It did give my name as author but no mention of Lit. It was "I Spank Phyllis" one of my first stories and one not rated very highly. I wonder why they would swipe that one; I certainly have better stories than it.

Don't bother visiting the Asstr site, it has the most archaic set-up I've ever seen in my life. I was recommended Carol Collins in one of Suewatcher's stories (I recommend that author!) but it seems that Carol has closed her Lit account

Anyway, I found one of Carol's stories on Asstr and there wasn't even a link to her story-list page

Unbelievable

A seventeen year old resurrection thread is just as unbelievable!

But yet you posted on it. ;)

I always wonder how the hell people dig these things up.

Maybe instead of closing popular threads that go over a certain amount of posts to save 'space' they could clean up all the dead threads that still exist.
