Here's something I wrote..I just want some oppinions, so fire away!
The Sandwich
I dropped Becky off at work, and smiled at the guy at the car wash no my way out. I lingered a little too long at him, and he smiled right back at me. Turning back onto the main thoroughfare, I finally decided what I wanted to eat. Vivid memories of the salad I had last weekend popped into my head. I remembered how good my friend’s sandwich looked, and I desperately wanted to try one. So, I drove across town. I stopped in the Quaint, rustic place in the middle of the suburban downtown: The Olde World Bakery. Walking inside makes me smile. There’s such a positive vibe all around. There are Mexican paintings hung on the walls and incense and herbs and naturalist books for sale. The atmosphere made my heart golden. The kid behind the counter was the same young gun who had served me the week before. He looked at me odd at first, as anyone little shop worker would with me walking into the store with a shit –eating grin on my face. He remembered me when I reminded him how he gave me an Aztec salad instead of the Chef. I didn’t mind. It was so damn good. The kid was a young hippie type with semi cascading dirty blond hair and an easygoing attitude. I had liked him the minute I set eyes on him. I ordered a turkey sandwich on their freshly baked homemade bread, complete with Lettuce, Tomato, Green Peppers, Carrots sprouts, and mayo. It was all so fresh and so appealing. The kid prepared my meal to go as I glanced around the place. I decided to add a huge chunk of banana bread to my order, after nibbling on the luscious rich samples provided at the counter. I savored every taste. Finally, it was all ready, and I was on my way home. I made an instantaneous decision to go to the spot Laurie and I had found by the lake. The clash of nature and industry was quite evident, but the beauty was still astounding. I pulled in and searched for the perfect rock to perch on while I enjoyed my savory fare. Unwrapping my delicate package and taking a humongous man-sized bite, I became overwhelmed with the excellence of the food, coupled with the ever-pleasing blue fading to green beauty of the waves upon the lake, the wind in my hair, the crashing in my ears, and the giving warmth of the sun shining on my back. All of a sudden, the world was in balance. I was one. Whole. My stress seemed to melt off my body, like dripping ice cream off a pointy sugar cone on an extremely hot day. All my senses were being captured and played with and I couldn’t be any happier. Finishing up slowly, I just sat there cross-legged for a minute, head hung and eyes shut. I cleared my head and meditated for a great moment about the beauty before me. I cracked open the sweet good smelling banana confection and began to feast. Shutting my eyes to try and capture this moment, to remember it forever. After I finished up and drove away, I thought about how good it would be to write this all down. To capture one of the great moments in my life is a marvel in its self. .
