I'm working on a story involving the perspective of a Hollywood producer. He encounters a studio vice president whom he doesn't like because of his penchant for putting aspiring starlets on the "casting couch." As an aside, he thinks that the VP could be worse -- he could be a pedophile like so many studio types in Hollywood. It's a throwaway line that I could eliminate, but I like it because A) I want to show that my MC is a decent man in a cesspool, and B) verisimilitude, because there are alwaus endless rumors about Hollywood pedos. There's no other mention of that sort of thing in the story, just the one disparaging line. If I include a note explaining it when I submit, will it go through?

You can reference stuff - just not explicitly. If you are concerned, put a few words explaining in the note box at the bottom, explaining that it’s just a passing reference.

I've mentioned an adult male fantasizing about a friend's mom when he was young so I'm sure you are good. I did not include any details of the fantasies of course.

I’d refrain from using the word pedophile, and not only because it might trigger a deeper check or rejection. You could say that at least the girls on VPs casting couch were of age, which couldn’t be said about some of the other producers, or something to this effect.

Otherwise I think you should be good, with or without an admin note.

Just come out and say it and mention it in the notes if you are concerned.
I suspect if you did a search for the term you'd find it used hundreds of times in other stories.

From my published story here, "Murky Water":

Walker glared at Stephanie, "You brought some pedophile into our house while Mindy was here? How fucking depraved have you become?"
