Today, after a frustrating day of not being able to enter any of my work in the database, on account the database lives in the Webmeister's computer which was down the whole day, I got a text from my son's phone: he's dislocated his shoulder-- again--and is on the way to the ER. I thought it was odd that he was doing all this texting (which hospital, are you coming?) when the last time he'd been too immobilized by pain to do anything. Sure enough, I catch up to him at the hospital, his best friend and his best friend's GF are in the waiting room; his friend had done all the texting. I went to the room they'd put him in and there he was, all immobilized by pain like last time.
It was the same procedure as last time, too: they put an IV in his arm, they gave him oxygen, they knocked him out, they popped his shoulder back into place, and as soon as he was able to walk they let us go. In the meantime, the doc who'd done this came back with the xrays. You hear a lot about doctors not being ready for modern technology; this one had my son's x-rays on his iPhone. Since this time there was a tiny chip in the ball part of the ball and socket joint, they recommended he go to an orthopaedist. Fortunately, we've got one.
I took him home, stopping at the CVS to fill the prescription the doctor had given him. Now he's at his friend's house; his mother is going to take him to his cat-sitting gig tomorrow morning. His friend's GF has his car and car keys. It's very complicated.
Dad is rather annoyed at him. How did this happen? He was climbing a tree. Why was he climbing a tree? He and his friend were waiting for the GF to come out of her apartment, and he'd climbed the tree out of boredom. Did he fall? No. He was reaching for a handhold and overextended himself.
"Of all the stupid shit...that's why he needs to get a job. He's not doing anything with his mind!"
