In past threads I have compared this place to a small town. Despite the fact that the cyber boundries of our community extend across continents, we all seem to know what's going on with each other. Birthdays and accomplishment are celebrated. Sadness and losses are consoled. Advice is shared. Friendships are created and dissolved. And amongst all this wonderful comraderie, a lie or two is told and feelings are hurt.
The recent developments relating to Jason and Ms. X bring to mind how easy it is to decieve someone on the web and how easy it is to get caught. The pain is never easy for the person decieved. Neither is the anger restrained against the perpetrator. However, here in cyberspace, the perpetrator can recreate him/herself and play the same con over again on a new victim.
So, Jason is a pariah. Take that, you cad, until the next time. We caught you once and we'll do it again. And to Ms. X, and others who allow themselves to be seduced by folks like Jason, be careful. There's a lot of jerks in cyberspace. Fortunately, too, there's also a lot of wonderful people out there.
