Russia's biggest name in the Olympics tested positive for a banned sunstance, and "Russia" currently leads the medal count.

Does anyone doubt that the rest of the already sanctioned "Russian Olympic Committee" team is also guilty of doping???

This is getting to be more of a farce than it already was.

The IOC looks like a bunch of complicit fools for allowing the already sanctioned Russian team to compete in these Olympics.

Is anyone even allowed to test the Chinese athletes???

Pathetic.

This is really tragic.

She's quite a sensation who's yet only once lost gold in a major competition she's participated (in nearly three years) and a world record score holder at 15, but if she's going to be disqualified for two years, it's already longer than her career was expected to last anyway.

Because as things stand right now, adult women can't jump quad rotation jumps without crushing their hips, only early teen girls can. That may change, and her school may be what changes it. Almost all girls who currently jump quads are from that school.

And even as she's only the fourth girl ever to have landed a quad and incidentally the first to do so in Olympic games, you already can't win an international competition without quad jumps (the scoring boost is huge, base value, say 3A = 8.0 but 4Lz =10.5 and judged grade of execution bonus/penalty scale proportional to that).

But... a fifteen year old using medication for heart pain and blood pressure control... yeh. Adds to narrative what child soldiers those girls are.

As expected, Russians are taking this as a directed U.S. attack on their country. There's massive public outrage just short of street protests, yet. The main narrative is that it couldn't be that the test took so long and that timing of announcing it, just after Russia won the team event leaving U.S. second is suspicious at best.

There's actually diplomatic opportunity. Let the girl complete (and win, as expected) if Russians back away from Ukraine. They may take it. Seriously. It's at that level for them.

What would Trump do?

Ask her to sit on his lap...she would remark at his small hands hoping he was bigger like Putin...he'd throw a temper tantrum...and Putin would invade Ukraine

This was inevitable from the time Russia wasn't punished for its previous doping offenses. Putin literally laughed off the "Russian Olympic Committee" fig leaf at the Tokyo Games.

I certainly don't blame the girl, who is a cog in a machine and will be forgotten by the time of the next Olympics, when they will be promoting their new prepubescent skating wonders (the Russian gold medalist from the last Olympics is now out of competition even though she's still a teenager).

But people have had gold medals stripped for a lot less. I remember an American teenage swimmer who lost a gold medal at the Munich Olympics because there was a banned substance in an over-the-counter antihistamine he was taking for a cold.
