I have recieved several PC response that I would like to comment upon. I started to make my own PC, but it asks me to vote on the story. It doesn't seem right to vote on your own story, especially if it's entered in a contest. Is there a way around this?

Oh, in my note, I wanted to give credit to my editor. I did that in the note when I submitted. How is that normaly done?

The votes with PCs don't count for anything.

If I am adding a PC to my story, usually in reply to a reader's PC or as an admission that I got something wrong, I set the 'vote' as 50%.

It is better to respond to a PC with a PM (Private Message) if they have left their username. If not, replying is a waste of time. The person who left the PC is unlikely to return to your story to read your response.

You can do an author's note, either at the beginning or the end of the story, and put it in italics by submitting it in your text like this: author's note:.....

The "notes" section below the box where you submit your story is for Laurel's use, and won't appear in your story.

Joesephus,

I read your story, was impressed, and left a PC. Glad to see you here at the AH.

Go ahead and vote for yourself. It won't effect the score that much and otherwise Manu will have to do hand-stands to change things. I usually save my vote until I want to leave a thank-you PC or help the story qualify.

IMHO, the best way to thank the folks who helped you with a story is to leave a note at the beginning or end of text. I've left messages at the beginning of all my entries. The NOTE field is just for messages you need to pass on to Laurel.

ps: After posting this I read those of Cloudy and Og. They are, of course, right. Some people get confused with "VOTING" and "RATING". The latter is expressed in percentages on a thermometer and has no bearing on the contest. The 1-5 vote is what counts. rf

I too am a newbie. It has occurred to me that it would be neat if Lit provided an "Author's response" tool tacked onto the end of comments, which would be "live" like this forum, except only the author would be able to access it, and could update it regularly. Of course authors would have to be cautioned to not overreact to every little criticism or comment (some would anyway), but to use the tool to provide some not exactly "2-way" communication, but more like "1 1/2 way."

In my experience, this is not the case.

Now, if you've already voted, then the thermometer won't be recorded as ANOTHER vote.

This jives with the info on the FAQ page as well.

I wouldn't expect anyone to read my story a second time. What I'd like to do is to credit my editor. Thanks

There could be worse fates, even though there's a least at chance it was written by a "tea-sipper." :)

The only thing you can do, other than vote on your story and then leave a PC, is submit an edited copy that includes the thanks.

I ain't been here long, but from what I've gathered from the ones who have, you might be able to ask Laurel to add a bit at the front of your story to give credit to your editor. Just a suggestion. And welcome to Lit from someone who been here only slightly longer than you. I'lm gonna go read your story now.

Alas, I'm not a T-sipper. I do have some very good friends at Texas, and I do support them in the Rose Bowl, but I attend a different University in Texas.
