Minister: ‘assimilation is worse than Shoah’

"Israel’s ultra-Orthodox Health Minister sparked an outcry this week when he said that assimilation was a greater catastrophe for the Jewish people than the Holocaust."

I'm having trouble taking that in.

Am I reading this right? Please post a link to the whole story. I'd like to read it before I go sticking my foot in my mouth.

You have to register with the Jewish Chronicle to see the complete story, but here is the link to the above headline and you can take it from there.

So some ultraconservative Jew believes assimilation is bad for the Jews. The Arabs believe exactly the same thing and so do members of most other faiths/societies who are trying to keep their faith/societies "pure." Actually, the notion is as old as fear itself.

So, pal, what's your point? And what about the huge weapons cache that the Israeli's intercepted on route to Arafat and his buds? That was for assimilation, alright; to assimilate Israel into dust and rubble. Yep, ole Arafat is sure the Peacemaker, isn't he?

The point is, ppman never makes a point. Debating him is like talking to a dead tree.

Yep!

Proof once again that Dogma and Politics are the same species.

*shrugs*

So - who wants to vote Bill Clinton in as Pope? ;)

That's OK if you believe all that you read.

In today's battles, it's not so much what is happening that counts, but what you can convince people to believe. The arms cache you mention seems, to me, just a little too convenient.

Don't believe anything that you read. :D

Anyway - all of this is too serious for my blood. The truth of the matter is, there is very little we can do to influence these events. Laugh, Live, and Love... and ridicule the rest.

Are you saying that the media made up the PA ship and the 50 tons of arms?? As to an ultraconservative's xenophobia, and my reply, are you simply going to ignore my comments?? Where's the fire that I used to see in you?

You're gonna lose your juice, old man, if you keep this up. Try reading the Jeruselum Post to get more info on that PA ship that you deny exists. They have photos, stories and audio statements, but those are probably fake, too. Right??

The simple fact is that most Arabs, Arafat included, want toELIMINATE Israel from the face of the earth, just like that Nazi motherfucker. Or do you believe otherwise?

Well, ta ta and cheerio, old man.

You've been here long enough and should know ppman's M.O.:
say incredibly stupid things and/or try to make one isolated incident/statement/fact prove his preposterous arguments.

Ever notice how he posts to start the thread and never says anything else to support his original statement?

No I'm saying it seems highly providential that every time there is some movement towards a slowing down of violence between Israel and Palestine, the Israelis somehow manage to create more provocation.

Arafat can't go to Bethlehem for Christmas Eve.
A ship is suddenly "discovered" carrying arms into Palestine.
Tanks go into villages and start shelling everything in sight.
Settlers continue to go into Palestinian territory and build communities

and on and on...

So when I see a story along the lines of the ship in question, I immediately become suspisious about the authenticity of what the Israelis are telling us about it.

After all they are led by "The Beast of Beirut". The man who gave the order to massacre thousands of Palestinian refugees.

A man who is quickly being viewed by the rest of the world (apart from America that is) as someone who is not interested in making peace with Palestine but who wants to wipe them off the face of the earth.

What do I have to prove?

Sharon is capable of anything to kill off Palestine.

And that, old man, is my own personal belief and no-one elses.

As I have said before, what comes first? Provocation or the fist in the mouth.

:(

Damn, with comments like those, you're likely to actually make someone think you know something. I think this is actually funny. You're trying to tell me that in the most terror-driven part of the world, in a country that has had over half a dozen wars in the last fifty-two years for defensive purposes, the Prime Minister might be cautious.

Duh.

By the way, the media is a capital driven business, just like most things out there in non-communist places. Media writes about truths that make money--not the whole truth.

Goodnight, and remember, the only truth that is really there isn't really true.
