]Libya rebels in Tripoli, Gadhafi defenses collapse

(AP) TRIPOLI, Libya — Euphoric Libyan rebels raced into the capital Tripoli on Sunday and moved close to center with little resistance as Moammar Gadhafi's defenses collapsed and his regime appeared to be crumbling fast.

Associated Press reporters with the rebels said they moved easily from the western outskirts into the regime stronghold in a dramatic turning of the tides in the 6-month-old Libyan civil war. A rebel leader said the unit in charge of protecting Gadhafi and Tripoli had surrendered and joined the revolt, allowing the opposition force to move in freely.

"They will enter Green Square tonight, God willing," said Mohammed al-Zawi, a 30-year-old rebel who entered Tripoli. Green Square has been the site of night rallies by Gadhafi supporters throughout the uprising.

Earlier in the day, the rebels overran a major military base defending the capital, carted away truckloads of weapons and raced to Tripoli with virtually no resistance.

So Obama launched a short attack on Khadafi, and the people he sided with are now on the verge of taking over.

This may yet end well, or it may end poorly.

Either way, Obama should understand and remember, if nothing else, that failure is an orphan but success has many fathers.

It's pretty much over except for the shouting.

Not really. I'm talking more about the aftermath. The rebels who are taking over Libya could become bad guys, too. They could put up an even worse leader than Khadafi.

They're already pissed at the Africans in the country, which Khadafi allegedly hired to suppress them.

Revolutions don't always end like a fairy tale.

Yeah, too many revolutions end up- "New Boss, same as the Old Boss." Kicking out a dictator doesn't mean that the new leader won't be an even worse dictator.

Not likely. Old models don't apply anymore. All the young people using iphones, ipads, facebook, and twitter, didn't have a revolution to hire another soul crushing dictator.

Libyans are Africans.

All they need is to pick another group that they don't like in Libya, say Khadafi's supporters, or suspected supporters, immigrants, foreigners, whatever, and start brutalizing them. Just find the most powerless groups that can't bring down nations with twitter and all that. Worse than all of that, Libya could descend into anarchy.

Not saying Libya will necessarily go bad, but it's true that the work to fix Libya has only just begun. The fire of tyranny has been put out, now that country needs to be healed. And fireproofed.

I'm talking about the BLACK Africans.

Wow. That was quick!

Libya rebels in Tripoli, Gadhafi defenses collapse

August 21, 2011 (TRIPOLI, Libya)

"The sweep into the capital came after the rebel fighters advanced 20 miles from the west in a matter of hours. They took town after town and overwhelmed a major military base meant to defend Tripoli, 16 miles from the city. All the way, they met little resistance and residents poured out on the streets to welcome them."

Islam pretty much invaded Africa from the Middle East, took slaves, and are now taking African women as sex slaves up in Saudi Arabia and other areas.

Black Africans get ZERO love from the Arab populace. ZERO. Where do you think the African slave trade originated from?

Just yanking your chain, dude. I knew what you meant.

I'm not saying the revolution will be pristine. Few are. The American Revolution began with Native American genocide and chattel slavery.

You have absolutely no clue. Gadhafi posed no real threat when this uprising began, but who will end up leading Libya now? You certainly don't know.
Muslim Brotherhood? Perhaps someone intent on reopening Libya's nuke bomb program. Maybe someone who doesn't want to sell oil to Europe.
Yeah, this is a real victory tonight for somebody.
We just don't know who.

I'll bet you $500 that the muslim brotherhood doesn't take over Libya's government.

That talking point is completely bullshit. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, let me know.

The person responsible for Lockerbie is not a threat? Really? What other mass murderers get such consideration? Manson hasn't killed anybody in years. Do you believe he's as harmless as a kitten too?

Not true. Remember that he is the one that ordered the bombing of the Pan AM over the UK. So, Even if the new leader is a terrorist, he can't be worse than Gadhafi. There is a chance that he/she will be much better. We've lost nothing here. It's a victory.

His kind considered Osama Bin Laden a "non-threat" up until 9/11. Hell, Reagan funded him... Kind of shows you how little they understand foreign politics.

Well, we know this revolution is neither jihadist nor Communist, because neither movement showed enough visibility, nor appears broadly popular. And there's no military organization in Libya, on either side, strong enough to pull off a military coup or impose a military dictatorship. What other possibilities are there that are really scary?

With no target the rebels are likely to collapse. This could become a tribal conflict for power if they do not set up a government fast.
