I posted the following in another tread, a dead thread. I feel the need to share it again.

Okay, time to give myself away here. If anyone in Charlotte is reading this, keep it to yourself please.

I work in an 'alternative school'. Part of the Charlotte school system. But my kids have been kicked out of regular schools for various reasons, gang activity, fighting, drugs, attacking teachers, bringing guns, swords, knives...

The students have to prove to us that they can re-enter regular school. So we also act as a gateway, kids from prison have to spend some time with us. I have kids coming and going all the time.

After four years at this site I know 7 kids who have been charged with 1st degree murder. Seven students of mine will spend the rest of their lives behind bars for killing someone. The last one did it a year ago Halloween. Hunted down someone who had popped him in the mouth and knocked out a few teeth. A good reason to kill someone.

I also know a hell of a lot of kids who have killed themselves, or have been killed by others.

My job is a major stress factory.

If anyone wants to make a big deal that a teacher from Charlotte posts on this board,(there is only one alternative high school, and I am the only social studies teacher, so hell it ain't
gonna be hard to figure out who I am if you really want to) I will deny everything!
And then I call the ACLU.

I am so damned tired this morning. Part of it is just that, being tired. The other part is facing another day. Once I get there everything should be fine. Most of the students I have right now will have their last day with us this Friday. The end of the quarter. They go back to their regular schools. I am going to miss some of them.

So if you read this, keep it to yourself. Thanks.

I hope your day gets better as it goes by, and I think that what you do is something that deserves alot of applause (even if it is the quiet sort). You make a difference in your students' lives, and that is a great thing. As for Monday, Garfield is Always with you on that one and So am I. (If you have bad days on Thursdays, Douglas Adams is always good).

JUST ANOTHER MANIC MONDAY

What's worse Schoolteacher..........IT'S THE DAMN BEGINNING OF THE F/N WEEK.

OOOPS, I forgot. Monday is cool for me. I'm off from work.....
Wheww Hoooo!

sounds like...

It may be time for a change. I am just guessing, but after 12 years working with the same kids in their homes and communities, I do empathize.

Certainly, it is a very high stress factor and there is not always enough time and energy to do the things that help to keep you well. But, if not for people like you and I, these kids would have zero chance. Yes, some enter the adult correctional system, but others engage in meaningful employment and later have families and lead productive lives. Unfortunately, focusing on the kids who don't make it takes more energy then focusing on the ones who do.

Hang in there. Take care and Tuesday will be here soon enough!

:) ~hugs~
