There is a difference between most of what you mention and tampering with the equipment to be used. It is a common practice to doctor the field or other place where a game is to be played, and accepted within limits, but this is not so with doctoring the equipment. That's why there was such a flap about the football used in the Patriots game.

In baseball, the field is equipment. The only thing that are the same in EVERY MLB stadium are the bases are 90 feet apart, the pitching rubber is 60 ft, 6 inches from the plate, and the dimensions of the batter's box. No two outfields are the same.

Every starting quarterback "plays" with the balls before each game: some like them old, some like them rubbed down, etc.

This, again, is NOT AN ISSUE!!
For fuck's sake, the only people that should be pissed out this supposed scandal are gamblers. But then again, who gives a fuck about those people that bet on the sweat of others!

No. I mean each team only plays with it's own footballs--footballs it brought itself. When the other team goes on the offense, the football is changed to one of the twelve it brought. Is this really so hard to understand? This was covered in the news at the time.
