Ok, I just looked at "Geeks Are Freeks," and left feedback on a newer thread. BAM! It's now the most recently updated story! No changes, but CHYOO thinks it's updated. So I think I have things figured out.
When a story is rated, the system counts that as an update, for some strange reason. Therefore, when people go through and rate as many stories as they can to drive down or up their ratings, it in turn, also has stories showing up as updated, when they haven't been toutched.
This seems to explain a great deal.
