One of the bigger 80's bands Great White, who made it big with " Rock Me ", " Once Bitten, Twice Shy " and " House Of Broken Love " was playing live tonight at this night club called " The Station " in Warwick RI when it seems that one of the pyrotechnics machines went off early and the nightclub almost exploded immediately. They are showing scenes on local TV here and are reporting that the lead guitarist and one of the the most popular hard rock DJ's in the country, " The Doctor " from Providence's WHJY have not been accounted for and is believed to have died but has not been confirmed.

You mean the ceiling was going to be higher later on?

Somebody needs a new roadie....

60 confirmed dead now. Yup, we are the greatest nation on earth. I mean this would never happen in a third world country, would it?

It might have been all that Aqua Net hairspray.

Somebody fucked up big time.

I understand this club had no sprinklers...

I saw the video this morning, amazing, everyone thought it was part of the act, until the flames and smoke overcame them.

Not a one. Civilized, eh? I wonder when Bush will blame Saddam and or Bin Laden for this? He needs the help right now.

Blaze kills at least 54

At least 54 people died in a horrific Rhode Island nightclub blaze that witnesses said was ignited by a heavy metal band Great White's indoor pyrotechnic display. At least 168 people were injured in the fast-moving fire and many remain at nearby hospitals, officials said

I always liked that band - but sounds like some pretty halfassed safety precautions.

Ty Longley is probably, almost certainly dead.....among the 60 that died last nite.

When my band toured with Ratt, years ago, we jammed with some of the original members of Great white, including Jack.

Ty has only been with the band for three years.

This is horrible news.

:(

It's amazing that a band like KISS can go for thirty years without burning down a building. Could be that they used professionals to run their pyrotechnics. Well, okay, Gene Simmons set his hair on fire once, but there was a roadie standing by to put it out.

PH, KISS never had their popularity wane so much they were forced to play in cardboard boxes in prayer of that next smash one time hit.

You toured with Ratt?

God, memories of the 80's. :)

Very tragic!

I live in Rhode Island and it was terrible to wake up this morning to hear the news. I live about 15 minutes from "The Station". The only thing on TV today is this tragic event. A camera man was doing a documentary on night club life and he filmed what happened. It made me sick to my stomach watching it. They currently can't find a radio personality called "The Doctor". He is a funny bastard. I hope he is ok and everyone else fighting for their lives right now. God bless em!

I was listening to them interview one of the guys from their European label this morning and he said that Great White enjoys playing the smaller venues, it gives them a chance to have some fun. Yeah right. It keeps them working is what he should have said.

I saw the video of the reporter who was there shooting a story about crowded bars and it did go up quick.

We used to use a lot of pyrotechnic pods in our shows, but only at the very large bars, and we never used what they used...we called them Fizz Fire.....they are like the little Firework Fountains you can buy legally as fireworks and are very dangerous in my opinion. They shoot sparks for around ten seconds.

I never let my guys set up pyro stuff near me or my drum kit, because I have had close calls with a pod a few times.

We had a pod blow up, and blow out the tube they sit in one time...luckily it was during a sound check, and a light/equipment check before a show and no one was standing by it.

This sux.

Yeah but in 1991. We did a tri state tour opening up for them. We did about 20 shows.

We played a few shows with Tesla too.

The guitar player that died isnt in that photo.

His name is Ty Longley.

It's up to 75 now. They are also saying the building was up to code but it still was consumed in three minutes. That doesn't make sense.

Days like these I'm glad I don't go to bars.

Peace to families and friends.:rose:

I heard it was the drummer and not the guitarist as originally thought, but that was a couple hours ago.

Apparently, the building wasn't licensed or whatever, for pyrotechnics displays either.

Damn sad.

Because of the small size of the club (capacity 300 IIRC), it was not required to have sprinklers. It's a damn good thing we don't have so many government regulations oppressing legitimate business owners.

The horrific tragedy is compounded by the fact that it was GREAT FUCKING WHITE. Not Kiss, not Iron Maiden, not a Black Sabbath reunion...these people died for goddamned washed-up, one-and-a-half hit wonder, 80's hair band Great White. Just pathetic.
