Screw negative feedback for a moment, let's talk about positive feedback.

Seriously. Am I the only one who sometimes get frustrated at positive anonymous feedback? I so want to reply, but I can't! The worse is anonymous private feedback with questions but no return address.

Please please guys, leave a return address!! :(

I think you can set your profile so you can't get anonymous private f/b, but yeah, when it's public and anonymous and considered then it would be nice to respond. Mind you, I tend not to get that many considered responses to my stuff :D

I find it amusing that anonymous negative feedback is always trollery and should be ignored, but anonymous positive feedback is seen as pearls to be cherished and the inability to respond to it lamented over.

Just sayin'.

well so far I haven't had any really negative f/b. They just vote low and don't comment. I used to get the odd anon sicko private f/b but now I don't accept them.

When I do get neg f/b though, I would like to be able to respond to it assuming it's credible and not just some nutter who hates all women/men/people/sex/etc

I usually respond to negative feedback too, if there's anything I can comment on.

With the new voting system, there was added the requirement to enter one of those doodley thingys to verafy you is you. If you sign in, you have to use it. If you post as Annonymous you don't. Answer you question?

Another improvement that went wront.

No, you're not the only one. But you could be using the time and effort invested in grousing over this by writing another story or taking a nice walk in the woods. You can train yourself not to hyperventilate over something like this--and be the happier for it.

Anonymous positive feedback is left by professional writers like Joyce Carol Oates and John Grisham who obviously can't use their names here on Lit. Anonymous negative feedback is left by idiots hiding behind a curtain of shame.

Go ahead. Prove I'm wrong. :D

I'll keep your suggestion in mind, although I'm not sure a 30 seconds walk would help much. ;)

JJ, don't know what you're on but it seems great. Can you give me the name of your supplier?

Everyone - anonnymouse or not - has to enter one of those 'doodley things' to leave a comment. If you can't read you can press a button to have the 'doodley thing' read to you. (If you can't read, how do you find the button?) It's supposed to prove you're human (but I have my doubts it's that good), not that 'you is you'.

Lalah, be gentle with positive anonnymouses. It takes a bit of balls, even with aliases, to stick your head above the parapet and leave any kind of comment. Also, a lot of readers are not members anyway. So appreciate anonny public comments and make your own PC if you think it appropriate. Lots of writers do.

With email feedback, although there are some private people who want to say they liked your stuff without a reply address, I think there is a problem with the site's form.

It is not very clear when you send feedback that you have to give an address to get a reply. I'm sure several wellwishers think I'm rude for not replying, most of us think if you send a mail, the recipient gets your address. Lit could make it more clear with a little emphasis on 'do you want your mail address to be forwarded with your comment?' box.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to receive feedback, anonymous or otherwise. But like you said I feel rude for not being able to respond to questions. :)

I just got another anymous positive feedback.. I like to reply when I can. But It does make me happy to get em!

Actually, you'd be surprised how much good even a 30-second walk around the yard can do. :)

I do agree that it's a bit frustrating not to be able to respond to a question (or to note that a reader has, indeed, "got it"--or not) to an anonymous commenter. But only a bit. It's more frustrating to write up a response to a e-mail commenter only to find it was a fake e-mail address.

I just almost never respond to a PC at all. I'll respond to positive e-mails, but never to the rare negative one. I'm trying to keep my blood pressure controlled. Promoting the "oh, well, so what?" response.

Well, I have all feedback turned off, and I can say with all honesty, I don't miss any of it, positive, or negative.

And I think my esteemed colleague from the upside down hemisphere (starrkers) makes a great point about anonymous negative feedback, and anonymous positive feedback.
