Anonymous Negative Comments

I've only had one such PC ( and a couple of emails ) but I left that PC on there. It is usually painfully obvious that the person leaving the comment is a brain-damaged troll, and thus it doesn't really hurt to leave it up there to show the world what a fuckwit they are.

Removing it can also prompt them to low-vote your story yet again, and leave even nastier comments. It also lets them know that they got to you.

Unless the comment just *really* bothers you, leave it up there and take the wind out of the SS Troll's sails :D

I'm with Dark on this one. Giggle at them and leave it up.

The only time I've deleted a comment is when the troll blasted the person who helped me with the story, because she was gay.

Good thing he'd done it anonymously over the Internet. Otherwise I would have performed an experiment on the pain threshold of trolls. You can troll me, but leave my friends alone.

That would prompt me to delete too. Attacking another author through my comment section simply would not fly, unless the other author laughed it off as well. My inclination would be to delete with extreme prejudice, however.

I leave them up. ven the one who has read and commented on two of my stories in a semiliterate fashion.

My opinion is that there were too many big words for him to read the piece, and he trolled them based on the fact that I used words that had more than one syllable.

I read the comments on my fics, respond to them, and then consider to myself if they're something that enhance and honestly advertise the fic or not. Professional writers only let the former stay on their books, and I'm the same way. Nevertheless, I value all feedback except flames and spam.

What do others do when a submission gets a cheap shot, negative comment? Do you delete, or just grin and bear it?

I at least wish that people who want to leave mean-spirited comments would have the courage to attach their handle to them. I am not thin-skinned, and I know what I write is subject to criticism, and maybe even despised by some. But why just flame someone, and why do it without the balls to back it up with a name?

I've just posted this comment in the Author's Hangout as well, but wanted to share it here too.

Thanks for that, Seth! I have to say I'm still laughing and I just read out the comment to my husband. His face was a picture!

And to think we all do this for the love of it

Great to hear from you again!

I agree with that comment completely!

While not as well-known as any of you, I've had my fair share of good and bad comments on my stories posted thus far. And naturally, I've received some 'scathing' reviews from trolls.

My favorite was one in which a troll blasted a story I had posted in the Nonconsent/Reluctance category, telling me that what I had depicted was rape and that I would be getting 15+ years in prison for it.

I left it up, and a couple of days later, a more enlightened reader defended me in his own PC. That's happened a few times, now. The only comment I have ever deleted was one in which absolutely nothing constructive was said about my work. It had simply been a bash at an earlier PC. I won't allow my public comments to become a bulletin board for small-minded halfwits with personal issues.

By the way, Janiexx, that was an hilarious comment! You should be proud of yourself! lol

if its not creative criticism and its just flaming somebodys hard worked story then it should be deleted.

I'm with you, man. I agree about the neg. feedback. As a fledgeling author, I know there is going to be both good, and bad comments, I expect that, cause I ask for "Good or Bad" feedback prior to my stories. When I post a story, both boxes are checked, to allow voteing, and feedback. The comments themselves don't bother me. (If I was that thin skinned, I should'nt be wrighting any way.)
At ,comments should have to post thier I.D.) JH-1

For what its worth...

I used to write here as "Thesandman", now Many Feathers. In the beginning, especially when my writing was far less than perfect (still far less than perfect but better...) I got both anon as well as honest contructive critisism. That I truly appreciated, and still do. The anon "hate mail" made me realize it was the subject, not necessarily me that was being attacked. I learned as most everyone has, you're going to get those. Just learn to accept and ignor it, unless its something you can learn from and use.

BTW..I still get anon emails from people who still hate my stuff. But on a 10-1 ratio...I'm not too worried about it.

So relax everyone...enjoy writing and laugh at the hate mail. I do.

:D

Insightful One

Many Feathers has positive things to say. But I remain conflicted in that I receive NOTHING BUT extremely gratuitous feedback regarding my stories and how I handle the subject matter, and story votes are very strong (4.95 area) for the first two weeks. And then overnight the votes are sucked down to the 4.6 level for no apparent reason.

I think I'd rather be hated in public and accept it, than be loved in public and scorned in private behind the backs of scoundrels who plot their next deceptive move.

I got a "negative" anonymous comment

. . . on a story once (Hypnotized by Chelsea: http://english.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=56956) which was actually pretty good an interesting, but at the same time took multiple nasty shots at it.

I posted a reply asking the author to write me to discuss the story but he/she never did.

Eventually I just deleted it after about a year.

Personally, I think the "worst" comments are no comments at all.

Wow... a topic near and dear to my heart at the moment, considering that I've been getting broiled recently for a story that I've posted recently. In any case, short of there being an attack on an innocent in the flame (as described above), I tend to just leave them up. Some are so funny that if I were to read them on someone else's story, I'd just ~have~ to give a better rating just based on that...

Why Bother?

If they are ludicrous comments, why do anything about them?

A fool is known by his own words and actions.

I doubt anyone reads the review comments to a story prior to having read the story. Therefore and logically, they have already decided to a great extent what they think of the story. Only insightful comments will therefore have any effect on changing their opinion.

If the comments are written in an insightful form, are they valid or not? Is there something to be learned from them?

Isn’t that than the reason for the comments section?

The fool’s words are than only static.

I would think, if I prized my work as being creative, that the insightful comments could hurt or insult far more than the anonymous fools words.

Annon. Negative Comments

Well, since, I try to be an author, I do ask for comments, god or bad. If I do get a bad comment, I at least know they are reading my posts. Eveyone does not like what you, or I might right. I tend to agree. . . just ignore the comment. (Those "bad" comments are usually anonymous any way.)

bad comments

I've received a few bad comments on my stories, granted, the bad comments were short, nasty, and didn't give me ANY constructive criticism on how to improve my writing in the future.

I admit, I'm not the best writer, but I keep the bad comments... I don't delete them.

Hopefully people will be kind enough to explain in their comment as to WHY they didn't like the story. The bad comment I love is:

"This was the worst, most boring, god aweful story I have ever read!"

How does THAT comment help me become a better writer?

I'm a dork . . .

At least, according to one anonymous troll, who commented on my first story, The Lesson.

A 'dork?'

I didn't think sixth-graders were allowed on this site.

On principle, I try never to delete a comment. We whore for reaction and we should accept it - good or bad.

If a comment breaks the guidelines, insults someone else instead of me or was just a drunken ramble perhaps I would do some weeding.

It's the content that usually attracts the strongest comments - good or bad.

I keep all comments received, good or bad. I am fortunate in the fact that my stories receive mostly positive remarks. In that regard, some of the negative ones look totally obscene against the others and are blasted by readers. Poetic justice, I suppose. I love good, constructive criticism, but rarely do I receive it.

Tony

Thanks

Thank you to all who so thoughtfully replied. I was never puzzled about what to do with negative comments that had some shred of criticism, but I have read all this with interest. Still, I have, and will continue to delete comments that have no other purpose than to express a sort of mean spirit that seems to counter the whole Literotica enterprise.

I've never deleted a comment. I received the following on my latest story, Now and Forever Ch. 01:

What bullshit

It would have been great had it been NORMAL....fucking queers is not my cup of tea.... besides, they are not allowed in the army!

I fully expected to piss some people off when I wrote it. I take it as a complement to my writing, though I do wish I knew who posted it.
