Does anyone like anonymous feedback? It's frustrating to be asked several questions and not being able to respond because they left no address.

Anonymous questions

I wish that was my only problem with anonymous feedback. A lot of anonymous ninnies can't seem to tell the difference between their keyboards and the toilet. I can laugh at the juvenile attempts to proposition me, besides one of them might be worth checking out, but sometimes the hate mail hits me too close to "where I live" emotionally. Mostly I just get pissed.

I believe a lot of those questions are rhetorical. If the person REALLY wanted the question answered, then she or he would leave an address so we could respond.

If you genuinely want to respond to anonymous feedback do what some others of us have done - use the Story Feedback area and answer the feedback. (For example, see my own effort on January 29, 2001 in that area under the (original!) thread title of 'Anonymous feedback'!)

They might never read it, but at least you'll have the satisfaction of having replied.

And if you don't like receiving anonymous feedback, you can always go to your site profile and turn it off. It's meant as a convenience for the reader, but if you find it to be annoying, by all means disable it.

I assumed if you turned it off, you couldn't get any feedback at all. Is that not the case?

I've just received an extremely useful anonymous feed back critique and I've taken your advice Alex and posted a reply on Story Feedback.

The idea seems to me to have so much merit (I always feel I'm being churlish when I can't reply to this type of feedback) would it not be an idea to have a non-disappearing thread for the purpose of posting replies?

No. You'll notice two options in your profile: one says "Make E-mail Public?" and the other says "Allow anonymous feedbacks?".

The first, when activated, displays your email address in your profile. Thus, if someone reads your story and enjoys it, they can click on your name and be taken to your profile. There, they can email you (not anonymously - from whatever their default email account is) whatever feedback they wish. This is the ‘old style’ way, before the scripts.

If you have the second option activated, the script includes a link at the bottom of the story that allows the reader to send you comments without having to have access to an email account. This is more convenient for many readers, especially those who read from work or other computers that aren’t theirs. People are generally wary of sending erotic story feedback via their work email, lol.

So, you can have your email public without having the Anonymous Feedback turned on. Or vice versa. Or neither. We added the Anon Feedback to make it as easy as possible to send comments to authors. We certainly did not put it there to be an annoyance, but to help increase feedback. If you don’t feel comfortable receiving Anonymous Feedbacks, then my all means disable the option. Those who do want to contact you can still do so via your Profile, assuming you have your email made public.

Make sense? If not, let me know. It’s late, and I’m hungry.

I haven't received any anonymous feedback. Everyone who has taken me to task over my story has signed their name. LOL

Hmmmm, I wonder what I'm doing wrong? ;)

I wish there was a single answer to the "anonymous feedback: is it a good thing?" debate. I've gone to offering feedback in anonymous form so the author doesn't feel obligated to respond to me. That way, they can accept or reject my feedback for free, no explanation required.

So, definitively, anonymous feedback: good or bad?

I got the most amazing feedback ever written for ANY of my stories via an anon source. It was truly WONDERFUL. It was lengthy, and pointed out many of the weaknesses of the story, while, at the same time, still complimenting me on a tale well told. I related to it and was incredibly thankful for the constructive tone, while still flattered by the praise. I would have enjoyed writing back to the person who was so generous with their time, but I respect that maybe all they wanted to do was say a few things and move on.

99% of the things I get via anon feedback is good and brief, so no, it doesn't bother me. The 1% that is negative or lengthy...well I don't let it pester me. If they didn't have the gumption to sign their name, they weren't feeling THAT negative.

Most people include their email addresses and I try to respond as soon as possible. Some people may have web access, but no email accounts. So that’s always something to consider!

The only thing that bothers me is when people use the anon feedback form for things OTHER THAN the stories. Ever since I started posting on the board I've gotten a healthy scattering of weekly "hate mail" always pertaining to things I post via the automated feedback forms. I give them all the due respect and attention they deserve, but over time, I've often wished there was a way to weed them out. There isn't, so I continue to use the delete button when I get them.

I think the anon feedback is a good thing. As authors we often want to be part of the "conversation" of the criticism of our work, but sometimes we are meant to be listeners. If the feedback has merit, that's all that matters to me.

I think if the author has the Anonymous Feedback enabled, then you can assume that they don't mind receiving anonymous feedback. If they don''t have it enabled, then you won't be able to send them anonymous feedback, so that's already decided for you.

Like I've said, it's an extra option for those authors who wish to utilize it. Authors have asked for a feedback system like this to increase the feedback they get. An increase in quantity does not always lead to an increase in quality, of course, and there will always be idiots who misuse any system you put in place. But I do think that anything that makes it easier for a reader to leave feedback is a good thing.

The bottom line...Don't like it? Turn it off. Like it? Leave it on. They're your stories, it's your profile, so it's up to you to decide what works for you. ;)

Laurel, I find this unacceptable. I think you and Manu need to design and install a Literotica V-chip that will identify and block unwanted feedback...

I can install a V-chip, but I don't think you'll like where I install it... ;)

Then again, maybe you would, you little minx...

Ohhhh Laurel...

You just made my tender places all tingly!

Now, what I'd really like to do is...
