Anyone want to try one?
Maybe some Alt. Universe Macross or Gundam?
Or maybe something like Super Robot Wars(Which for those who don't know is like every mech anime cramed into one game)

Always wanted to do one of these, but I'll need more details.

Darn, and here I was hoping for a Project A-Ko thread... I wanted to call dibs on the drunken alien hermaphordite captain who believed C-Ko to be his queen...

My dreams and asperations have been crushed, thanks guys.

How about a full fledged Mechwarrior/Battletech thread? You know, with Kurita, Steiner, Lao, Davion... Vs the horrors of the Clans! I call dibs on someone from Clan Ghostbear! I want to pilot a Madcat II!!! Pvoom, pvoom! Thats the sound of my PPC's!!! Fear me! ...Just a little?

I am interested...you want graduates from my schoo? (check my thread perhaps we can work together. I am about to launch a few ideas.)

Well with the replies I got I think a Super Robot Wars story would fit best, and it would let the players pick from just about any mecha to come out of Japan.
The Mechwarrior/Bettletech idea could work, but the problem is I just don't know enough about it to run one.
I've only played the MW4 line of games ^^()
But since I've run RPs in the past, players would most likely end up on the same side, as fighting between players can lead to a lot of problems.
We'd have Mid Boss characters(If you played Disgaea then you know who I'm talking about)
But is if I get enough requests for one title or something I'd think about running a pure RP based off that.

So... Do I get to play a drunken alien hermaphordite captain or not, Amchentai?

Bwahahahah! ...Eh... Not that funny really.

Um... If its a war scenario, like an us against them, I would like to play a them that gets caught by us and then decides to join us rather than them, and shares all of them's secrets with us. Sound cool?

Once you have more of a focused setting in mind, I will be able to tailor a persona to it better. But yes, I am interested in this thread. :) How about that, you got a moderators stamp of approval, LOL, do ya feel special? Huh huh, well do ya?

...I need to lay off the caffien for awhile, I think.

Personally I think it would be easier to do an original world than use any existing one, but then I've only seen a few mecha animes. My interest would be if the mechas were people too, maybe irreprably injured people whose minds are preserved (digitized maybe) and placed in the mechanical 'body' of a mecha when their own body fails, or if the mechas were a race of shapeshifters worn as armor by their psychically bonded partner...

Possibility

If there's enough interest, I could help out amchentai.

I've been playing Battletech since about 1990, so I know most of the in's and out's of the different houses and such.

Just throwing it out there.

Yeah thanks MilkManDan007 if we get a few more shouts for a pure MW/BT thread I'd love the help

As for what you asked for Ravenloft, I don't see a problem with it.

Here is the thing, mixed tech means we might get people fighting over which tech is better ya know
I don't want to start a thread and have a Star Trek VS Star Wars tech things going on.
Both have some type of laser, and shields lol
But this thread would take that a step above that
For those of you who have seen Evangelion, How do you fit a AT feild into play against anything less then a Angel?
And if your wondering, No most other mecha can not put out the type of power needed to punch a hole in a AT field =D
Most mechs don't carry enough power to ya know power half of japan on their backs every day =D

But yes story we will go with something along the lines of Super Robot Wars: OG
Aliens are about to invade Earth and it will be our jobs to stop them =D
can't get much more detailed yet because we need to set up the mecha list, so we have some idea on what level of tech we will be dealing with.
And most likely I will be grouping weapons togeather.
Granted there are going to be far to many weapons to do that with but I'll plan on just a overview of them.

But yeah any one have any pure tech setting other then MW/BT?

I'm not familiar with your setting. I am vaguely familiar with MW/BT, having played MW 3 and 4, both Mech Commanders, and some battle tech. Given the options I prefer a new setting to MW/BT.

I happen to have GURPS Mecha by me and so I am going to recommend a few things from it.

First is weapons / armor. This is very long so if you read one thing, read the campaign idea. Armor basically reduces damage by X amount for each hit. For weapons, they have cannons and gauss cannons that are your basic high damage possibly armor piercing weapons, they have lasers which do less damage and have more shots but the armor only counts once against multiple hits, plasma/flame weapons which actually remove armor and do double damage against open armored targets, and particle / ion weapons which like the cannons do one big shot but they are slower in rate of fire compared to cannons the advantage is they do double damage against electronics after armor. Lastly we have missiles the shape charge warhead means only 1/10 of the targets armor counts, and missiles often have soupier damage and targeting, it is also a pain to carry more then one shot. Armor has three type, metal which is best described as plain. Lamament which is a ceramic metal hybrid and the like; it is a bit larger and by far more expensive, but shape charge warheads are less effective against it (dr*2/10 rather then dr/10). Lastly is Ablative which is a plastic metal hybrid, it is cheap and light weight allowing for huge damage reductions, the down side is any hit from a hand gun to a laser permanently removes some armor, so in a long battle this armor becomes useless. (It also isn't fireproof, but can be if you double the cost.) This is just a rough idea, upon request I can go into more details (Hand weapons and armor specials for instance).

For setting, I would like to recommend the GURPS setting. The Alien races have reached organic brain computers. They store lots of memory, are small, and learn fast. Trouble is they take time to grow. Enter the mob, they discovered the human brain, when memory is blanked, matches perfectly with those grown in labs. Naturally it is far cheaper to harvest the brains then grow them, and they are gaining the profits to build a small and loyal army. Earth has found out and is defending while keeping the problem secret. The Aliens have a base on the moon, and two types are present. The main species is outwardly like a human, just with a wider range of hair and eye colors (animie any one?) The rarer species is a group of cat people, mostly women, that act as a warrior race. (Other races are possible.) The space police are slowly gathering the evidence to do something but there needs to be a lot before they can do much of anything, earth is a primitive and protected planet after all. So the police have lightly equipped scouts investigating earth, and vigilante's are present as well. Some of the aliens have defected joining earths side, but few have much knowledge about weapons and technology. (The aliens are roughly one tech level more advanced.) As an option the most famous defector is the Mob bosses cloned daughter, the mob boss had two clones made, a son and a daughter, he groomed the son to take over the mob and the daughter to take his legitimate businesses. The son died and when the daughter is brought in as a replacement for the son and doesn't have the stomach for the work and defects to earth. (Naturally the daughter doesn't need to be in the story but she is an example of a defector.)

That's one of the problems of mixing technology/worlds.

Each game has its own balance to keep things fair. If you dropped a true Gundam into the Battletech universe, it would win anything hands down.

It might be best to try to stick with one known system or to completely ditch everything and start fresh with something you come up with. People could say "It's like a Gundam/Star Wars AT-AT/Battletech Mad Cat" and you could put limitations on it or increase its power to be on par with other people's ideas.

If we end up with a milti tech setting everything would be balanced, so nothing is over powering another, and so people could use mechs they want on a even playing ground.

I m crazzy and like to build from scratch. Just me.
Me too. I love doing worldbuilding and I love the freedom to make more things up as I go along since I don't have to follow the rules of an existing world (especially one I might not even be familiar with).

Well here is a question for you?
How detailed do you want to get?
I mean it'd be hard to run a full out D&D style RP here XD
But is that the level of detail you want from the RP?

Detailed? Me personally, I prefer not to use a system which requires math. If only the combat required math that would be fine; I'd just avoid the combat, it's the relationship and adventure parts I'm interested in. But the worldbuilding must be as detailed as a good novel - consistent, logical, non-cheesy. It's important to understand what the mechas are and how they work (naturally since I want to take the role of one) and how the bond between mecha and rider is formed. I assume the setting would be some kind of military academy or similar place where there are adult pairs of mechas and pilots that have been bonded for a long time as well as young ones which will bond during the course of the roleplay? Also if pilots are anything other than humans we need to know what races are available, what non-human abilities or traits they have.

You know, I really like the idea that sunandshadow put out, about having sentient robots that we form mental bonds with.

I would like to change my push for the thread to use that concept. (Especially if it is the invading force.)

See, and im just throwing this out there. How about the 'heros' who must face this new alien menace have cold, yet powerful mechas, and the invaders see themselves as liberators, thinking they are coming to free all these 'enslaved' mechs from their bondage to these bastards who would dare to enslave such noble beings. After all, in their culture, the concept of a lifeless mecha walking about like a marionnette is just... Hard to swallow.

I don't know, I think this concept lends itself more to story telling than to having a set block of numbers that need to be crunched every time we wish to take an action...

Oh don't worry I don't A) know enough about the D&D system to make it work
B) would never run a RP based around that anyway
C) math & RPing no thanks =D
Anyway yeah we'll still put tegether ideas and what not so keep posting with info and story ideas, nothign set in stone just yet.

Hmm. That makes the invaders seem kind of dumb though... I was kind of thinking more along the lines of: one clan or nation of human-esque people controls a population of mechas, basically they aren't allowed to roam freely unless they are bonded to a humanoid of that group. Another group of humanoids wants to capture some of these shapeshifters so they can fight the first group on an equal footing, while some shapeshifters don't want tot bond with humans and others love their humans and want to protect them but don't want to fight other shapeshifters...

Gentlemen....gentlemen

There was a mech threat here awhile ago and all that happen was a debate about what era to play in and what mechs to use....then it was which clan we would be....etc. I never saw a thread go for so long without anything being played.

That being said we should come up with our own simple setting. Perhaps little gray aliens are threating to invade...earth..our colony....our space station whatever.

We stand against them....the army..****** marines...teenage draftees....special branch of the post office whatever...

The Aliens...I was thinking perhaps they are physically week...like the leadership race in the old X-com game or the little grey aliens.

The need the mechs to fight us and we need somethign to fight their giant robots. Not saying we can't have ground combat...can use tanks and helicopters to for example.

I think we should use something similar to BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouths) or at least the style. Don't worry about the system because it will never be 100% fair...we have to work on the honor system. After all this is roleplay writing and there is no way for us all to calculate resluts.

Bottom line.
Let's have fun with this stuff people....Make it simple...three types of mechs...Small medium and large. things like that

Yeah keeping it simple is the best idea ^^
I'll try to come up with something in a day or so and post it

what about something like bubble gum crisis, full metal panic, or one based on a video game. or we could create are own univese each person creates ther own part lik interface weapons and steal other series blind

That could work....each of us pick a list of things we would like to see...setup some categories and the gentlemen who started the thread picks and chooses what he wants.....everything from mechs to story elements
