anime lovers?

Sure, some ...

Sure I like some anime ... but like PoAG sez, I'm picky ...

I like a few movies (Akira for one), and a few series' (Cowboy Bebop) ... but definitely pick-n-choose.

BTW, PoAG - great photos & av ... very original!

Strike that, reverse it ...

I guess I should have abbreviated that as: pOAg ... instead, now that I looked closer ... still love the pics, tho!

mmmm i like cowboy bebop as well.
also flcl and excel saga

thanks! i took them myself :D

Yes!

I should have listed FLCL ... that is so creatively "out there" it makes the artist in me want to hide whimpering in the corner ... I love it.

You guys like Adult Swim, too?

mmmmmm yes, haruko is a goddess and regardless of the fact she isn't real i still want to be her!

I'm into Adult Swim. I'm going to have to check out FLCL. Never seen it.

Anime / Hentai

I was once president of a local Anime club, so I have seen lots. No one tops Miyazaki, but here are some suggestions.

"Millenium Actress" or "Perfect Blue" or "Tokyo Godfathers" by Kon

"The Count of Monte Cristo" - redone as SF

"Midori Days" - silly and fun

"Space Guardian Angel Links"

Lots more, most available domestic. I also watch a fair deal of Hentai.

Are you wearing your eyebrows?

Adult Swim faves:

(in no particular order)

Sealab 2021 (first two seasons)
ATHF (first three seasons)
SGC2C (any and all)
The Brak Show (any and all)
Home Movies (sure, I know it didn't start there ...)
Mission Hill (great but short-lived)
Cowboy Bebop (when they ran it ...)

... and others in less regular dosage ...

Glad now that they have the free "Fix" page ...

haruko was awesome. i love FLCL. it was short but oh so sweet. i think my other favorites would have to be Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and maybe Gundam Wing. who doesnt love a good Gundam now and then? lol

Sorry, Jason ...

Just realized I was getting carried away and sorta hijacking your thread ...

Anime

See, I am of a different generation than you. We had the ORIGINAL "Speed Racer" [ which looks cheesy now ] and "Space Ghost" [ designed by the brilliant Alex Toth, who just passed away ].

I can't get into what I call the Big Giant Stompy Robot Stuff or Chibe. Just can't.

I have also liked series at the beginning that later -- sucked. One such example was "Getbackers" - it just got lame.

Our club are major purists, everything is watching in Japanese with subtitles. While I don't HAVE to do that, after a while, you just prefer it.

Well, sort of ...

Brett -

Actually, I grew up with Speed Racer (the original), which I still love ... and played hooky from school to stay home and watch Star Blazers (although as a purist you may cringe when I call it that), and others ... I loved many of them.

I truly appreciate the particular genre that is Anime ... but though I appreciate it I don't necessarily love all of it ... it is not my singular obsession ...

But I think it's totally cool for those who are really into it that much ...

I like a lot of the Adult Swim shows for the HUMOR ... and put them in a completely different artistic realm from Anime.

By the way, since you are into anime so much, what was your opinion of Steamboy?

mmm im not really into giant robots

Boobwitched, I thought STEAMBOY was wonderful, if a bit wonky. It had a few "culturalisms" unique to Japan.

I loved my cartoons from about 1962 - 1971, then they got "purified". Nice to see that era over, with such brilliance as the Paul Dini work on Batman, Superman, Justice League Unlimited, et al.

It seems hard for me to believe that I have been a member of the club for over a decade now, all the Anime I've seen. Although I am leaving the club - too few people having too much control, backstabbing, etc ... it was a fun experience.

Not giving up the Hentai though. PS - my Avatar is Japanese as well, an illustration by Japanese genius, Hajime Sorayama.

Tastes Differ

I liked the Cowboy Bebop movies, I thought the OAVs were so-so.

Also AH, MY GODDESS is always fun.

If you want early Miyazaki, get FUTURE BOY CONAN.

I like URESEI YATSURA [ LUM ] too, but it is an acquired taste.

Lots to watch, isn't there.

wha.....not into giant robots????? *passes out* .lol. i can understand that though. Gundam was at times pretty weak (and confusing) storyline wise. i think Robotech handled drama a little better. ahh....Robotech. brings back memories. speaking of memories, Dragon Ball Z has a warm place in my heart too. i think its just because of the insane fighting though. :nana:

I enjoy anime but can be very picky. I love some of Miyzaki's work including Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke but didn't like Howl's Moving Castle that much. I own a few collections of anime including Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion... started to collect Trigun but disliked it more and more as I went along so I sold the whole thing.

If there is anything you can recommend... point me in the right direction.

i think the thing that impresses me most about FLCL is that it was soooooo incredibly brilliant and only lasted for like six episodes. some other shows are even half as good and last four times longer. oh by the way, anyone like Paranoia Agent?
