No one knows when a person will live, and when they will die. At least, that's what mortals believe.

In reality, there are outside forces that make this decision.. the Angels of Fate. Angels of Life.. and Angels of Death.

These two forces usually work in conjunction with each other, deciding together what should become of their subjects.

However, there has suddenly become an increased amount of lone decisions from Death angels of fate- including the deaths of mortal form Life angels of fate. Only a remaining few Death Angels stay true to their tasks, helping the Life Angels protect the balance they provide together to keep mortality in check, as well as fighting back against the Fallen Angels.

Angels are born from their mortal death. They keep the appearance of the age they were when they passed. Most mortals cannot see either angels unless the Angel takes on a human form. There are a select few that can see them without the Angel's help; usually young children or those who do not have the vision of normal mortals. Animals have also been known to spot an angel.

This thread would need the following:
Angels of Life
Angels of Death
Fallen Angels of Death (you know, the bad ones. :) )
A blind mortal or two who can see them all
Possibly a priest?
If you have anything else you think might fit in, drop me a PM and let's find out!

Jessica

Jessica had been an Angel of life for a mortal's 20 years now. She never realized how much she had missed of the world while she was human... Everything truly was beautiful.
Perhaps it had been that she was blind while mortal.
She had known of the Angels while human. She had seen them, ever since she was a child. That's why she hadn't feared the one who took her, who made her an Angel of Life. She had even known the Angel of Death who took her... He had visited the chapel at the hospital her father had worked in daily. Daniel.. She could never understand why other people had told her that Death was a frightening skeleton in a black cloak, swinging a terrifying scythe... Didn't they see Daniel? And the others like him, the ones who smiled to her as they passed her in the hospital.
But she understood all that now. She could never see anything else, but she could see those angels. Now she was one of them, taking on one of the many tasks that she had seen her angels do all those years ago.
She rode the elevator with mortals, though none of them could see her. She could have easily placed herself in the room instead of this contraption... but she liked the ride.
It stopped at the ninth floor; Jessica's stop. A man stepped from the doors, who Jessica followed. She had been following behind him for a few days now. It was his newborn son she was here for, a premie with a heart defect.
Today was the final decision on this boy... the day she and her Angel of Death partner had been trying to avoid. They should have decided it within hours of his birth... but they had been called to so many accidents the last few days, they had to put him on hold. "I say you let him be," She called, knowing her Angel of Death was somewhere nearby. "Let me have this one..."

OOC: Sounds beautiful. I'd love to play a newly blind mortal, that is if you'll have me. I'll post a quick character sketch later on. Looking forward to playing:)

ooc: I do hope this will be acceptable

Johnathan had always been a gentle soul, even in life when he tried never to bring cruelty to any living creature. He knew mercy, and had killed those creatures that had no hope of fourthur life. Of course, they were mostly insects that had been half-stomped on, or sprayed with poison. It was these qualities that made him a selected candidate to become an angel of Death - bringing release to those who deserved it. He hasn't been an Angel long, only about 7 years, but with all the troubles going on with rogue angels, he's had his work cut out. Combine that with being partnered with an Angel of Life who, technically, is older than him, yet looks a little younger, and he is nearly always on the move. However, he's not grim when it comes to his tasks

((BtW, feel free to start posting as soon as you put up some type of char bio. Don't need to wait for me on this one!))

Johnathan had been standing and watching over the infant boy for several minutes now, smiling down apon it's face. Thing was, it was looking back at him. It was strange that someone so young would have to be balanced in the scales, and a descision made as to if he sould continue to live, or be released from life.

It had been far too long in the coming, this decision. With everything going on, it had been decided that there were more 'important' matters to attend to. That annoyed him somewhat, as in his being, he felt that the most important were those who had to suffer the least.

He moved away from the child, and leaned against a wall. He'd always liked the human form, and almost got into the sterotypical image of Death with the black trenchcoat and shades. He didn't know why he chose to look this way, he just did.

He heard a faint call from the corridor "I say you let him be, let me have this one..." He smiled. That was undobtedly his partner. One of the most caring souls he knew. "Relax, I havn't done anything yet. " He was going to wait. Jessica could probably come up with a brilliant reason as to why the boy should live. It was what she did. Damn, he thaught. Child cases were always painful...

Jessica's face brightened with a smile as Jonathan spoke, going over to him. "I think he likes you." She sighed, shaking her head with a soft laugh. "Its funny, isnt it? Once he gets older, he'll be terrified of the thought of you. But now- you're just a man he wants to pick him up."
She reached down to his crib, resting her hand on the plastic sides and wriggling her fingers. "Have you heard anything on the Fallens?," she asked softly, still looking at the boy. "Last I knew, they were attacking Angels... trying to bring more of us down with them." She shivered, glancing to him. "I'm not sure how they plan to do that, but it frightens me."
She gave another smiled as the baby gave a gurgling coo. "Yes, little one. Jonathan and I were just getting to that." She folded her arms, looking at him. "Do we need to debate this one or should we-"
Her question was cut short as the sound of an ambulance came blaring into the hospital lot. She could feel it already- the passenger inside was waiting for them to decide far sooner than this boy. She gave him a chagrined glance, guesturing towards the window. "I think little one will have to wait with science just a bit longer. Feels like that guy's going to need a quick decision...."

Malcolm

Malcolm had been an Angel of Death for many mortal years, enough that he had lost count of how much time had passed. In life, he had been a loving family man, happily married with a wife and children. However, that happiness had been taken from him when his family fell victim to a horrendous crime. Griefstricken, his own life ended a few years later when he became ill, and he chose this path to ensure that others who passed went on in peace, not like hsi family.
He stood in the ambulance, watching as the paramedics attempted to save the man they had picked up. The man they were trying to rescue was quite young, in his early twenties. There had been a car accident, and this young man had been seriously injured, thrown from his motorcycle. Malcolm watched the paramedics as they did everythign within their power to help the fading man.
In his heart, Malcolm knew that he should take no action. There was no Angel of Life with him, as there should be. The one who he had worked with for more than a century had gone missing. Malcolm had the unsettling feelign that his partner had fallen prey to the supposed "Fallen" angels he had been hearing whispers of, or worse - that his partner had become one of them.
There was no choice in this matter, and Malcolm knew that. The young man on the table opened his eyes only a bit and stared into Malcolms own eyes, seeing him for the first time.
"Don't worry...I'm here to help you." With those words, Malcolm reached his hand out to the young man.

(((Picture here doesn't show the face, I couldn't find one I liked, but it gives a good impression of how he looks otherwise.)))

Johnathan shook his head with a sad smile. "A sign of the times..." He looked over at the child once more and placed his hands on the edge of the crib. "We'll be back soon" He brightened up his smile for the young boy, and straigtened up again. He could feel that whoever was inside the ambulance was in a great deal of pain, although it was being slightly repressed. There was aslo a presence there. One that made him frown.

"I think there's an Angel there already" His worried glace to Jessica told of how he was unsure as to who the Angel was, or even if it was a rogue. "We'd best hurry"

Johnathan had always prefered to move around on foot. Probably because he hadn't been an Angel for as long as some others, and let it linger as a sign of humanity, or not. It was just one of those things, he thaught to himself. He dashed out of the room and into the corridor, heading toward the ambulance park

Jessica nodded, following behind him. It was so strange to see the darkly dressed Angel running before her down the hospital floors... She could only imagine what a mortal might think if they were to see them right now.

She sucked in a breath as they stood at the ambulance dock, hoping that the other inside was one from their side still. The breath released as the doors opened and she spotted Macolm. "Thank goodness...," She said softly. She saw no Angel of Life with him, giving him a slightly frightened look. Had one of the Fallen convinced him to cross? "Malcolm..? Do... do you need me to help you decide?," She asked leerily, looking to the injured man.

Malcolm pulled his hand away from the dying man and looked to Jessica. At first, his face was stoic, showing nothing. Then, the friendly smile that rarely graced his face showed as he saw Jessica, an Angel of Life that he had become friends with over the years.
"Any assistance you woudl be willing to offer would gladly be accepted." He nodded to Johnathan as well, then back to Jessica.
"The Angel of Life I normally work with is..." He struggled to find the correct words, "...unavailable...currently." With that, he looked back to the man in pain, then to Jessica.
"He's in a lot of pain...I believe it would almost be more of a blessing if he were to pass, but I suppose I can't make that decision alone. Your thoughts?"

"Let me see what I can find out first." Jessica touched the man's arm, giving a soft gasp and yanking it away in a matter of seconds, nodding quickly. "To try and save him would be too much for me. He's a good man... but I'm afraid I'd just put us in this situation yet again in a matter of weeks if I tried. I agree with you... Take him, Malcolm."
She gave the man a last glance, then looked up to Malcolm. "I hope your Angel of Life comes back soon. I hate to think of what those Fallen may do to one of us." She turned back to Jonathan. "And you- we still need to decide for that boy."

He watched as Jessica did what she did best, then nodded in agreement with her decision.
"Thank you Jessica. I too hope that my partner returns....though I must admit that I feel wary about this. Something....doesn't feel right." He reached out his hand again to the man, touching him on the shoulder. All life faded from the man's eyes as he lay there, and Malcolm's own eyes glowed for a moment before fading. He let out a sigh, always feeling slightly melancholy after taking the life of someone in the prime of their life.
After doign what needed to be done, he looked to the others and listened in on their conversation. "A boy? What is wrong with him? If, of course you don't mind my asking."

"His heart. He was born with a hole in it.. a slight one. I feel it can be helped... His poor mother lost her last child before him. She had been abused so badly while pregnant I couldn't let that one be born." She glanced to Jonathan. "I also feel this boy could make both your positions easier once he's older. Something tells me he'll solve one of the illnesses that calls you to work so often."

Once again, he smiled at Jessica. "Well, I do sincerely hope the the young one can be helped. It is always a shame to see one as young as that get taken away. I'm sure you'll do everything you can to help him." He looked then to Johnathan. "Make sure you watch over your partner here, seems like she is one of the best we have on our side. Don't let anything happen to her." With that the loving smile faded from his face.
"I suppose we all have some work to do. I need to find my partner....and soon."

Johnathan nodded at Malcom. "You can count on that. With all the troubles recently, believe me,I'm going to make sure nothing happens to her" He knew what Jessica had said was essentially true, that the child could well come up with a cure, but equally, he could be spared the pain of his own illness. He sighed. "You're right, Jessica. The child should live. Science should be able to cure his pain"

Jessica beamed to Jonathan, grabbing his hand. "Thank you.." It had always been hard for her to release a child to a Death Angel, seeing how she had lost a child of her own when she was mortal. "I'll be right back." She closed her eyes, vanishing from the two Death Angels in a quick burst of light and arriving at the nursery, reaching down to the baby boy. "Hello little one...," She whispered, placing a hand on his chest, laughing as he cooed at her. "Be good now. Your heart will be fine." She could already feel it beating stronger as she took her hand away.
She paused, glancing out of the glass and down the hall. She felt like someone had been looking at her... But that wasn't possible, she wasn't in mortal form... She shrugged it off, returning to the two. "The baby should be going home to his mother in a week or so." She smiled, brushing Jonathan's hand again. "What do you two say to going mortal for a few hours? I've been eager for a cup of coffee for weeks now, but we've been so busy everywhere I've never gotten the chance."

Johnathan smiled warmly back at Jessica. He felt her hand bush against his. If he was still mortal, his heart would probably have just lept into his throat! But he had been working with Jessica for some time now, and knew that the happier she got, the more tactile she tended to be. "Sure! I could really go for a muffin right now! It's been an age since we've had a break"

Malcolm watched the two and kept his smile to himself this time. "Well...I suppose I could use a break as well. I've been busier than normal lately, and would love to just relax for a bit. Besides, I hear that there is a place around here that makes delicious pancakes." He looked to the two of them and pointed in the direction of the exit. "Lead the way."

"Wonderful!" Jessica grinned, heading for the exit. As she left the hospital, she took on her mortal form, giggling as she felt the rain hit her cheeks. "Careful guys, its wet out here..." She raised her hand out, smiling as it bounced off her skin. She loved feeling things like this once in awhile. Of course, it also made her remember that mortals got hungry- her stomach began to growl. "You just had to mention those pancakes, didn't you, Malcolm?"
The diner was only a few blocks away, but Jessica was having fun as they walked, kicking her foot into puddles and eventually soaking her dress from the rain. She didn't care... it had been some time since she was in human form, actually able to feel everything like this.

Inside the pankcake joint sat Marcus, a tall, austere young man, with a rather strict aura that kept those out for a casual chat away from him.

Marcus was never bothered by garrulous drunks or panhandlers. It was the look in his eyes.

As a mortal, Marcus had lived a short, wealthy and enviably comfortable life. He'd taken no major decisions for anything, and simply lived from experience to wonderful experience. Until the day of the earthquake. He'd been on an island holiday, with a group of his friends when it happened. He'd suddenly discovered a source of energy he never knew he had before. He'd organised his friends and got them treated and evacuated, but saw so much chaos around the hotel that he'd stayed to help. And then the local villagers had begun to arrive - carrying their wounded and the load got heavier. The boatsmen had warned him that aftershocks were bound to occur - maybe even a larger quake - but he'd ignored all that and thrown himself into organising, chivvying, arranging and even manual work.

The larger shock had arrived - a volcanic eruption of a long capped volcano. Nobody still on the island had survived - but upon arrival in heaven, Marcus - aware of his wastrel life, had found himself well regarded.

The job came soon after.

Marcus hadn't found a partner yet - many Angels of Death had fallen - and so he worked to assist those pairs that did exist. And to check up on them. There'd been a lot of activity at a hospital just down the road from here and Marcus was here to find out if all was well.

How did he know the three angels would walk in? Well, he WAS an Angel of FATE after all...

He adjusted the grey shirt he wore tucked into his slacks and straightened the lapels of his jacket. Taking a sip of coffee he folded the newspaper over as a young couple who were just a little too mundane to really be mortal entered the shop accompanied by another man - both males dressed in sombre black.

Johnathan laughed as he shifted to his human form, walking out into the rain after Jessica. In her human form, she could easilly be described as a free spirit, and whoever described her as that would have no idea just how close to the truth they were!

Johnathan's trechcoat was keeping the rain off if him and mostly dry. Jessica, however, in that little dress she was so fond of manifesting, was soaked right through to the skin. Of course, any ettempt to offer a jacket would probably get met by a scowl and comment about how she was'having too much fun for that' So, the three walked, Johnathan letting Jessica hang on to his arm as she splashed through deeper puddles.

Malcom was right. The place wasn't that far. Walking up to the door, Johnathan held it open for Jessica and smiled brightly at her
