Angels In America

What is it, Q?

Angels In America is a play (two interconnected plays actually) by Tony Kushner about the AIDS epidemic and it's effect on the gay community in the 1980s. It is probably the most critically praised American drama of the last forty years. Now it's been filmed for HBO, directed by Mike Nichols, and starting an incredible cast that includes Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson.

It airs in two parts, this Sunday and next Sunday.

Did anybody else watch it ? Anyone know when/if it comes on again ?

I have to admit that I fell asleep before it was over(11:30) and want to catch the rest of it.

I hope HBO is going to air this after this week. I'm just too busy with exams right now to watch anything for too long.

How long before DVD? I am on strike from Cox cable.

Dammit, the college network doesn't have HBO!

But speaking of AIDS, there was this great 1 1/2 hour program on AIDS history on VH1 a few days ago. I don't know if it was a repeat or not, but it was really powerful. It's a shame that all the work that was done throughout the 90s is ending up being in vain. It's a shame that the numbers that took so long to lower are rising again.

They are going to be airing it a number of times this month, and in January, airing it as a series in one hour sections.

"Angels in America," with Al Pacino and Meryl Streep, was watched by 4.2 million viewers.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The first installment of HBO's much-praised miniseries, "Angels in America," was seen by 4.2 million viewers Sunday -- making the first half of the six-hour drama the year's most-watched made-for-cable movie.

While the viewership was roughly a third of what the last original episode of "The Sopranos" drew on a Sunday a year ago and paled in comparison with the 17.3 million people who saw CBS' "Undercover Christmas" on Sunday, HBO pronounced itself pleased.

HBO is airing the AIDS-era epic adapted from the stage by Tony Kushner in one-hour chunks before the second half is shown next Sunday, and will also offer the miniseries in one six-hour sitting.

"This is only the beginning of what we hope is an enormous audience when this plays out over an aggressive schedule," HBO spokeswoman Tobe Becker said Tuesday.

I haven't seen the first part yet. Would you suggest waiting to see part two until I do?

Yes, you probably should. It will be showing several more times.
