OK, now that I have your attention... :)

You might have noticed that I haven't been posting for a while (or maybe you haven't, but let's pretend anyway).

In early July, I finally tried tried Zoloft for my mood "issues". As expected it helped alot with my bouts of depression... but... also as expected, it has really hammered my sex drive.

I have not been in the mood to read, write or comment on erotic stories for a good six or seven weeks.

So... that's why you haven't heard from me.

I'm not sure if the tradeoff is worth it. In fact, that's why I haven't tried it in the past. I do feel happier overall but I don't get the same earth-shattering, heart-pounding, body-slamming high from sex that I usually do.

I'm also down to masturbating every other day (rather than twice a day).

Anybody else have the same kind of experience with Zoloft (or any of the other SSRI's)?

Anyway, I thought some of you might want to know what happened. Now you know.

Thanks all...

You're not alone, if it makes you feel any better. Most of the meds used for depression have some sort of effect on libido, and not nice ones. I took Prozac for several years, and yes, my sex drive went down really quickly.

Have you talked to your doctor about alternatives?

Effexor plus Remeron is really helping with my depression and I haven't noticed a marked decrease in my sex drive. It is always adviseable to ask your doctor about alternatives if a particular drug has a side effect you don't like. The number of Anti depressants on the market is increasing exponentially right now.

Paxil made me totally apathetic -- about sex, about my appearance, about just about everything. I had NO mood swings, though. Just a zombie.

Took myself off it & put myself on omega-3 supplements. BIG DIFFERENCE! Natural treatment. Lots of other feel-good side effects, too.

Good luck!

A mood-stabalizer called Wellbutrin is supposedly not supposed to affect your sex drive at all. (In fact, I think it says something about increasing it slightly)...

I was on Wellbutrin for a short whiles, but it wasn't right for my system, or combined with Effexor (normally it does well with Effexor too, but each person has a different body chemistry)

Now, I am on Effexor and another one that I can't recall the name of.. It seems to be doing great. I've become more stable, and even got a girlfriend. I feel that my sex drive is slightly lower than it used to be.. but that could just be natural, I'm not 18 anymore and that is men's 'sexual peak'.. So, haven't a clue if it is the meds or not.

That's why I got off Zoloft, I'm on Effexor also. In fact I just got them upped, but I'm clinically depressed so don't be alarmed.

If it makes you feel better, you can't throw a stick today without hitting someone who is on antidepressants.

It's like a club!

Good luck with everything.

An anti-psychotic called Seroquel pretty much killed my sex drive, and caused a multitude of other annoying side-effects.

The only good thing I have found after years of trying different medications is that once I go off them, I realise that I was not all that fucked up to start with.

I better shut up now before I go off on one of my anti-Doctor, over-perscribing tangents.

My former landlord took that and said it was the best thing for sex since sex.

A side effect Colly might be interested in. He said once he started taking it he had no desire to smoke.

I just wonder what he does after sex now.;)

Go right ahead with that tangent. I'll join you.

Room on that tangent for someone who's Dr has nearly killed her three times?

I ain't kidding. I happen to be one of the small percentage who becomes severely suicidal on Prozac, and what did the Dr do?

Upped the fucking dosage!

*hugs Angela*

That was meant to come before the rant, my apologies sweetie.

We're all on drugs... just some of 'em aren't from a bottle...

Yeah, many people have reported that it helped them quit smoking. However, I talked to a couple that say they smoked more while on Wellbutrin.

The side effect it had on me was uncontrollable rage attacks. So, it wasn't exactly the best choice for me. I still have some though, sitting in the cupboard, in case I ever want to go psycho Tolyk again, and whoop someone's arse :p (just kidding.. I keep them just so I can make the joke)

THANK YOU everybody!

I really appreciate the support!

I've tried Wellbutrin in the past. You're right, it does have a positive effect on sex drive but it was Wellbutrin's primary effect that threw me for a loop.

Wellbutrin works on epinephrin (not sure of the spelling) which is another word for adrenalin. What it did was to keep me on an adrenalin rush whenever I got on one. (Actually, that is exactly what it is supposed to do).

My problem is more of a bi-polar thing, although I am not actually bi-polar. I have extreme PMS. My moods vary with my cycle.

What I really need is something that keeps me from wallowing in the depths of depression rather than keeping me "up" when I'm "up".

I've tried some of the drugs for bi-polar disorder but they tend to flatten out my moods completely and rob me of the "highs".

I was hoping that Zoloft would prevent the depression without decreasing my up moods. It actually works reasonably well for that. In fact, I have been feeling quite content and happy overall.

The only problem is that I am so content that I don't have as much of a sex drive as I used to.

Believe me, I've tried a lot of different drugs in the past, including birth control pills. Each of the drugs has an unfortunate side effect and I am having to choose between various sets of evils.

I guess the reality is that Zoloft has put me on a "normal" sex drive. It isn't really normal to masturbate twice a day and also have sex with my husband almost every day, but that was what I was used to.

What I have now, (i.e. a desire for an orgasm about every day or every other day) is about on par with most women my age (29). So, I guess I'm having to wrestle with the notion of being "normal" versus being "myself".

Thankfully, my husband is happy either way. My sex drive is now about the same as his so he isn't missing out on anything.

If anything, it's my loyal fans who are getting the short end of the stick. I haven't written anything in a couple of months. I guess this thread was my way of letting everyone know why.

Again, thank you for all of you support and good wishes. I'll let you know how things work out...

Thanks...

Angela

My input

When my wife went on Effexor, she went WILD!!!!! Twice a day wasn't enough for her. She would wake me in the middle of the night sometimes, and after a long oral session and some hard intercourse, she would play with herself until I was ready again. The day she went on Zoloft - she died down there. :(

No stopping pill

If you take an anti-conceptional pill every single day without intervals, you don´t menstruate. Bye-bye PMS.

It´s a controvertial issue. Talk to your Ob-Gyn.
