Katrina Scott gave her validation speech through her coke bottle rimmed glasses. Her only thought after the applause she received was that she was finally out of this small nosy backwards town and on her way to living the rest of her life without the whole town knowing about it.
Every since her father had run off, and her mother died she was constantly being supervised and thought of as that poor child. It was nice in the beginning to have them so concerned, but being reminded on a daily basis she was now orphaned was a bit irritating.
Now at 18, she wasn’t required to have a guardian so no one could tell her what to do. She was ready to shed her good girl image and begin to live life.
Luckily her mother had enough foresight to pay everything she needed in advance so she wouldn’t have to worry about it until a couple months after graduation. No one knew of her plans to leave this small Virginian town, and she was grateful for it.
She managed to secure an internship at a hotel casino in Las Vegas. It was both exciting and scary now that she had no one to depend on but herself. Kat was smart though, and figured she had nothing left to loose. She would end up going to college out here, with a full scholarship. Everything thus far was working out the way she needed it to.
After placing a few things in storage, she caught the next bus west. For most of the ride it was quiet There were a few stops in-between with a small amount of people getting on and off. Keeping her nose in a book she managed to keep most people from trying to start a conversation with her.
She had somehow gotten lucky and sublet an apartment for a year. The cheapest route would have been to get roommates but she honestly wanted to avoid people in her business as much as possible.
When the bus stopped she was the first one off the box.
“Hey there lil Lady, You should be a model, just so happens I got the connections.”
“No thank you” she managed to say while trying to get by him.
“Take my card sweet thing and give me call if you change your mind.”
She ignored him and pushed past to grab her bags and hired a taxi to take her to her new place. Brushing her blonde hair from her face she poked at her blue eyes adjusting her contacts while she looked out at the bright lights of Sin City. Her new place ended up being everything the guy that lived there said it would be and more. She had a few days to settle in before she started her new job.
