Anderson Cooper's Gayness, Does It Matter?

I dunno, but the two people who really shocked me with it were Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell.

Get off the poor guy's back. It is up to him, and what if he really isn't.
I know how it feels to go through life with everyone thinking your orientation is really not the truth. I am tired of being looked at like I am straight.

Also, no wonder more celebs don't support us (even though they know it is the right thing to do) they are so afraid of the backlash.

If he is gay, he is not ready, and all this pestering makes him more unsure of what group he would like support from.

MY 2 cents worth.

Deezire has it right. And who knows if they're actually still trying to sort everything our in their own minds, like many other people? No one can really "peg a gay person" in the sense of look at someone and how they act and just know whether they're gay or not. If you do that, you fall into the stereotype. I know subconsciously I have done that myself, which I'm not proud of, but I don't like to believe one way or the other until I hear it from the person in question.

Whether he is gay or not, that's not going to change his journalism. He's still going to be the same as he was before. There will just be a slight change in his personal identity. Big deal, that's his own personal issue. Why should what he does in the bedroom or in his romantic relationships affect the way someone interprets his work performance?

Musto is an ass. Is he so insecure that he must seek validation for his sexuality by demanding everyone else come out?

Falafels anyone?

Which is more news worthy, outing some gay newscaster or outing Bill O'Reilly because he doesn't know the difference between a falafel and a loofah while he is jacking off and talking dirty during unwelcome phone sex to an assistant?

A powerful media personality sexually harrassing a subordinate is clearly more newsworthy than another media personality's sexual orientation. The former is a matter for the legal system, the latter is a purely personal matter.

The Mayor of Berlin is Gay. When it appeard to get public soon, he took control of the situation and announced it to the world. "I am gay, and it is good that way!" became a very popular saying in many variations.
He confessed it and surprisingly about no one seemed to care about it. I think this was one of the very most important success fot the acceptance of homosexuals in germany. After that such "news" where in the papers for one or to days and no one ever mentioned it again.
Last Year the "Vice-Mayor" (sounds like a constrocted word) of Hamburg accused the Mayor of having a sexual relatinship with one of his secreatarys.
The whole thing was about the mayor giving a close freind a good position and well paid job, no one cared about him beeing gay or not...

It is exactly right that noone can really ever "peg a gay person". I am bi (any guys in central IN?) and some of the people that I have told actually have had a difficult time believing it at first because I am very masculine most of the time. The way one behaves outside of the bedroom does not always reflect the way he or she behaves in the bedroom. Also it is a possibility that he does not know himself if he is gay.
Personally if I knew I was 100% homosexual I think I would be out to everyone, though it would be hard. Particularly where I live. In Indianapolis last week state Senate was debating a gay marriage ban. Church's sent people in droves chanting things like "God hates fags" among other things. I am married and certainly am still attracted to my wife. Though sometimes when I see things like this it almost makes me want to come out anyway and fight against all the hatred. It is so ironic that it seems to come primarily from the church's that are supposed to stand for love and acceptance. (Not implying that all Christians are hate mongers)
Anyway, if I were a financially secure celebrity I would be on the front lines fighting for consentual adults to behave how they wish sexually and not be persuceted for it.

But of course, because a large part of the nation still thinks homosexuality is "wrong", "a sin", or "a disease" (the last one really pisses me off), of course they're going to make someone coming out a big news story. However, O'Reilly can 1. Probably pay himself out of it becoming a huge issue, 2. Is loved by most of the conservative population, and 3. the media would rather make a big deal over a personality being gay rather than a personality having an unwanted lewd conversation with a worker. Homosexuality and gay marriage is a hot issue, so it'll sell more papers than O'Reilly having phone sex.

(Note: The above image of Mr. Reilly has caused me to lose my appetite for two days.)

I thought God was supposed to love everyone? Or was that Jesus? I don't know, but I hate when they throw those phrases around.

It makes me recall a great mini-story arc in the first season of Queer as Folk, when Emmitt decides to go religious and joins this group focused on making people "un-gay". On the last episode where they used this, he had this great speech about how God was going to love him the way he was, whether he was gay, straight, bi, transexual or whatever. It was really very touching.

Then the group kicked him out. :(

Very sad episode for sure. This is why I always think that if there is a god and "God" is really like most U.S. churches say, then I don't want anything to do with "God". I prefer to think that if there is a god that it is at least as understanding and compassionate as some humans are. If not then send me to hell if there is such a place. OK that's my sermon for the week.

When Lewis Black was at UMass last semester, he mentioned in his act about the Old Testament and the New Testament and the differences between the two. He said that the Old Testament God is one that's going to kick your ass, while the New Testament God is one that would go play golf with you. I don't know too much about religion (never did any real studying on the subject), but it seems to me that every religion has a different idea of what God is. So if there is a God, I want to choose the nice one. :D

If only people over here could do that. And people wonder why I respect other nations and I don't think that the US is the best ever.
