I get asked repeatedly if I miss Australia. Have to say there are things about it I miss, being in love with the place as I have always been, but I do not miss the government and their various ways to deal with indigenous Australians which was part of the reason I was relieved to be leaving. I have spent times in my life living in that community, both on and off reserves, and trying to fight for equal rights in our country but seems it just keeps on as it always has with ignorance and white right wing supremacy at it's fullest, as this article touches on. For that it makes me feel shame to be an Aussie which to me is sad, http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...&u=/nm/20041209/wl_nm/australia_aborigines_dc

Very good article Catalina. I think we each have things we love and despise in our repsective countries. We can only hope that the people who end up in power understand compassion, honesty and truth -- ha! Like that will happen. I was reading an article, although I can't remember where for the life of me. It was going over the 14 points of fascism and I realized that we are moving towards becoming a fascist nation here in the U.S. Hold one, going to try and find it.

found it!

Anyway read and see what you think! :)

I was told that same thing about the US by an American friend from a very elite family about 15 years ago. He has paid dearly for his stance and vocalism against issues in the US. It is a popular view of the US here in Europe. I remember a BBC programme some months back where the presenter had just returned from the US and made the comment, 'Bless them, they think they live in a free country'. It seems the world has turned on it's head and what was once white is now black and vice versa. Unfortunately I do not see it changing in the near future, especially as many do not even see it happening....the age old problem of how these things come ag\bout. I think many adopt the attitude it can't happen until it is too late and has.

I couldn't agree more about the too late part. I wish more folks would get involved in their lives...I really do.

Thank you for posting that link to the 14 points of fascism. I just ordered one of their shirts.

You're welcome MasterJ! I love politics almost as much as BDSM :)

Many do not think politics effect their lives so don't feel a need to bother with them. Reality is they govern every part of our life right down to how and if our children are educated and given health care. In a so called democracy, it becomes a responsibility of the people to use what power they have to influence what our life will be. Unfortunately, it is usually only when things are not as people want them that they complain and take perhaps notice, and often it is too late by then to alter the path easily or in our lifetime.

One of the things I vowed when I was younger (like 18/19) was that I would always be involved in my life, whether that was politics, love whatever. It is so important to be aware of society, be aware of what is going on, being aware of what rules affect us.

Now personally I am not a rule follower, I am actually a registered Libertarian, but I think that while some rules are arbitrary, some actually do help with order a bit. I mean you have to have some amount of order in society or you have utter chaos. I think that is where the anarchists go wrong a bit.

So, I try and volunteer in political campaigns and activities as best I can. I think if people were more proactive then we might not re-elect leaders that don't deserve to be in office. But honestly do any of them? I know there are a few good ones, but usually it is just so damn disappointing.
