In a recent reading jaunt, I came across a site and there was member's info given, within some of the subbies info was how much leather and other pain implements they could take.
Is this standard?
I having never been a PYL-less sub has never had to place any type of info out there, and it's never come up in any subbie get togethers, soo was this just bragging on their part or info that any PYL expects to see?

That doesn't ring any bells with me, but then, I've never really done much "online shopping" for subbies/slaves...

It might have helped us to have more specific information, say a copy-paste of the information provided (the part you're asking about - not the whole "ad" for the person).

Before I reply, let me say a copy paste of someone's ad is a bad idea... you might not know if that person is a poster here and you could step on some toes

AS to you question... I think checklists are fairly common and sometimes good tools in finding someone but that they can also be very limiting. Too much information with no sense of emotion behind it, no real sense of what the person isn't saying. I think it is a very Western approach to dating. <shrugs> nothing wrong with it, I use them myself but I do find mysel asking if you steal all the joy of discovery from square one, where is the joy in finding all these things out on your own? The blush in a woman's checks as you question her about her tastes... or the unrealized lusts she might hold if you give her a small taste to help her decide instead of asking her to base it on past expereinces or a lack of them.

I don't think there is necessarily bragging involved nor any expectation... it's more a BDSMer's way of saying the things about them that might help them find a compatible partner much the way a more vanilla suiter might wish to know if you like sports or dogs or drinking socially or hate drinking or love parties - small intimate ones or large country club galas or big rowdy frat parties.

And as a somewhat obstinate unlabeled woman... I find it to my perverse satsifaction to make a PYL work for the information instead of handing it to him though I do submit it rather easily sometimes.

Anyhow, hope that sheds some light.

As I recently bitched at someone who did do that, ( copy from lit to start a topic) could not and would not copy from another site, to do it here, esp as that person might be a lit member.

Thank you.

I agree on the copy and paste being a bad idea.

I guess I took it as bragging because of the context of how it was written, but as with all writing I might not be getting the gist of it.

Yikes! I posted that without thoroughly thinking about possible ramifications, though I did say just the information you were referring to, not the whole ad. For some reason, the thought that it might be someone from here never dropped into my mind... y'all are right.

Dang - this seems to be my day for getting to make edits, corrections and/or retractions... ah, well, I guess it's a good thing I gave up thinking I was perfect a long time ago. ;)

I thought all Doms on Lit were quality controlled??

I thought the moderators did this as part of their job spec

Next thing you know we will be overrun with the non-perfect specification Dom.

Quick we need assistance ...NOW

LOL, well this moderator only has time to concentrate all her efforts on one particular Dominant ;) and he is worth every second, minute, hour of it....but yes, fortunately he is not perfect either:eek: but close.

I agree that C&P of the whole ad is a bad idea. But, you could C&P parts of it without devulging who posted it.

And, you could also paraphrase, I guess. But, if I understand you correctly, yes, there are methods of telling a prosepctive play partner what you like and don't like (i.e. limits) where certain levels of pain are included.

Light, medium and heavy are the basic three levels. Yes, they are pretty vague, and the edges are also blurred. Where does light stop and medium start?

Leather pain is different from wood pain. If you've ever felt a flogger or leather paddle, you know it to be more of a "thud" feeling, where a wooden paddle is more sharp and intense.

I think the idea behind it is this...a toy made from leather is softer and more forgiving than one made from wood. Wood is hard and will not give, so what is hit will be what gives. That is going to be your body.

A leather product will have vaired degrees of stiffness, but all will be less stiff than that wood product, so leather is a lesser pain level than wood.
