I wish to hell people would do a little research on matters such as bodily proportions before they set out to describe characters. We have all read about 40DD breasts and 13" cocks ad infinitum and ad nauseam.

My current gripe is akin to that. Tonight I read a story which featured a woman who was described as being 5'11" and weighing 125 pounds. She was further described as being "imposing" and reference was made to her voluptuousness and curves.

Jeezus Pleezus! A woman built like that is not going to be "imposing." She is going to be a rail, and so I told the guy who wrote the story. I know. My husband is 6'1" and has seldom weighed more than 145 in his life. He can slip down to the low 130s in an instant when he gets sick. All his life he has had his female relatives riding his [meagerly padded] ass about how sickly thin he looks and how he needs building up. Even at his heaviest you can see most of his bones.

Even making allowances for the fact that a woman is going to have a lighter bone structure and higher body fat than a man, if she is almost 6'1" and only weighs 125, she is going to look more like a denizen of Auschwitz than most nude models you see.

I urge you to take a look at the stats for women tennis players, who are some of the fittest, hottest looking women you will see on public view. Venus Williams, at 6'1", weighs 160.

As a guy who is six, six one, and wieghs 120 dressed, soaked and in boots, I know that I am NOT a good reference for body structure..and likewise, I know squat in judging others.

Besides, I always thought it was better to let the reader work thier imagination.

Tall skinny lattes

ST, Good point. The description is anatomically oxymoronic.

Interesting though that fashion models are very tall and very (ahem) "malnourished". And this anorexic (or heroin chic) look was once generally regarded as desirable rather than slightly disturbing.

Venus Williams is part of a newer ideal (as far as the media goes, that is) of a super-fit amazon, which I guess the story you mentioned tried to describe. Big improvement over anorexia.

Interestingly, here in the UK, women who look pretty normal physically get consistently voted as the sexiest in tabloid polls. Maybe it's because they look approachable.

Exactly! Which is why, with the exception of "Quid Pro Quo," which emphasized that we were looking at a tall thin man, I avoid exact height and weight stats in my stories.

Tony,

Couldn't agree more on this. If you feel you have to add in stats, then please make sure you add in credible stats. Personally I always refrain from all too detailed physical descriptions, unless the story asks for any. Writing has an advantage over e.g. movie in being able to leave the reader certain degrees of freedom of imagination, and I think that is rarely used to its full potential.

As dr. Mabeuse once said here - free quote: "Big tits can't save a boring story."

Good points....I get a little turned off by specific measurements....leaving a little to the reader gives a much more satisfying personal experience.

I'd much rather read about the firmness of his thighs, the fullness, perkiness or girlishness of her breasts, the way he looked down at her or perhaps the way they met eye to eye.

Give me descriptions, not stats but even more than what they look like I want to know thoughts, feelings and actions.:)

44-24-38 & out

I agree with Moner and the rest, only moreso.
As soon as I see a bra size or a gratuitous body measurement in place of an actual verbal description, I'm gone. Life's too short. (about 4'5", 85 lbs, 46-24-44)

skinny legs, eh?:D

I largely agree

Tony, I agree with you, however I think it's more important to get the basics right. I have read a few stories where women regularly squirt cum all over their lovers faces. Having had a little experience of this effect I find the descriptions, or lack of them off-putting. I can happily ignore sizes since I think they are mostly used merely to give an idea of the general size and shape. of a body or part. If the basics are good I'm not too fussy about the minor details.
Just my tuppenyworth.
Cheers
Andy

By the way, did you get your tagline from the inspirational WH Smith bag campaign , or the original source ?

I honestly forget where I got my tagline, except that my husband and I have always been Marxists. :D
