Now, first order of business! I need a new title for this old RP. I don't think 'The Swirlies' is going to cut it anymore :D

I could always wait a bit to give it a title, but that's one of those things that's just going to itch at the back of my mind until I figure it out >_>

You guys got any ideas? It's going to be heavy horror and lotsa spooky monsters :D

Ooh, the excitement!

That’s a good question. Is there any backstory we get to know before we weigh in on the title question? What about the secret agency you mentioned? Does it have a name already?

It does not have a name yet >_> for as much as I built the world, I suuuck with organization/city names XD

Hmm. I don't have any permanent lore, except with my own character. Let's see, I think I already shared with you guys that most people stop seeing the monsters and being physically affected by them when they become an adult/turn 13, but Poprockz had the idea to let them keep physically affecting the world without people actually seeing them. This would work with them still needing to fight the monsters once they are adults (and if they are one of the special kids that can still see the monsters after they 'grew up'), and most things could be "explained" by accidents/natural disasters/paranormal activity.

In this story setting, orphans are more rampant than would be normal, as a -lot- of kids are homeless and simply survive on their own on the streets, with society having a bit of a higher gap between the rich and poor, and overpopulation being a pretty big problem.

While it's mostly modern (flashlights, cars, trains, etc), there is definitely some harsh living conditions and almost a bit apocalyptic on the streets, as many buildings are abandoned and left to rot as people just pack up and move if they have the money, and the weather is extreme and hardly ever consistent. When it gets cold, it gets FREEZING, like, easily 20 below. And likewise when summer comes, it comes very quickly and easily gets up into the hundreds.

So basically life is harsh, hard, and fast, and you have to be very tough to survive, with most kids forming into groups to help each other out. Terf wars are also a pretty big problem with the kids, but the kids that are good at hunting monsters and forming good teams are often allowed to come and go as they please, as having them in the area is a win win for everybody, like a pest control squad.

Oh! And mostly for a story tool, the kids who were likely to continue to see the monsters into adulthood are very often infertile, with it being -very- rare for them to be able to have kids themselves.

Interesting! So the adults know the monsters exist, but just can’t see them? That’s cool.

Hmmm... the name...lemme think on it

No, the adults don't know the monsters exist. They think their kids are just 'seeing monsters in the closet', because once you grow up, you stop seeing them and completely forget that they ever existed at all.

I was trying to think of renaming the old rp something like, 'The Little Street Soldiers', but I wasn't very stuck on that. It was also a bit more reflective of the age group

Oh, so it’s the other kids who appreciate having the good monster-hunters around. Gotcha

Hmm... Titles... What about...

> What They Don't See

> Midnight in the Sun

> Monsters Put to Bed

> Tucked in with no Way Out

Ooh, those are good. I’ve been focusing on names for the organization/agents, assuming there was a decent chance they would make a good name for the thread.

Here’s what I have so far:

 • Believers
 • Chaperones
 • Nightlights
 • Childlike Heart Union of Monster Slayers - CHUMS
And my favorite:

 • Magical Alliance of Adult Monster Slayers - MAAMS
I love this one because it has a mood of adults in a children’s world, and there could be a running gag about all the male agents being annoyed that they’re called ma’ams

Dear jesus lordy lou I am busy on lit tonight. Just had two random people message me while I'm trying to write a post >.< lol

Ooh, I likey a lot of these, but I am definitely in agreance with Popz-MAAMS is pretty freakin funny XD

I could totally see one of the newbies being like, "Who the hell came up with that dumb ass shit?"

and one of the older crowd going, "You got a better idea, wise guy? Well come, let's hear it!"

Oh, so, totally just came up with this on the spot and mostly as a placement filler while I was trying to write an intro post, but the town in which my character is coming from is called 'The Edge'

I know, it's a little, edgy, ain't it? XD But yea, how does that sound for a town?

I was also toying with 'Hard Knock Life', or something along that train of thought for a title as well. Mostly cause I love that song :D

Haha the thread could also be “Livin’ in The Edge”

I happened to watch some Hallmark movies in the last couple of months, and two of the random princes were from countries with Edge in the name. I think it was Edgemoor and Edgemont. I was just surprised because I don’t think of Hallmark movies as Edgy...

"Hard Knock Life" would be good; I feel like in that way it puts more focus on their struggle to survive in the midst of all this monster-slaying. "Livin' on the Edge" would also be a damn good title.

Heh. Edgy Hallmark movies. I feel like that's almost an oxymoron in of itself. XD

Hmm...Hard Knock Life...Hard Knock Life... What you think Nouh? I'm also pretty fond of the organization acronym MAAMS XD

Oh man, I haven't seen a Hallmark movie in quite a while :D

My only complaint about most of these names is the lack of pun, but I have to admit that Hard Knock Life is really good. It emphasizes how difficult life is in this world while also reminding me of the musical about children, so I think it blends the horror with the youthful imagination really well. I vote yes!

I’m glad you both like MAAMS! I was pretty proud of it.

Bystander: “Oh, are you one of the ma’ams? That’s so cool!”
Agent: *tries to frown Bystander to death while wishing he could disappear down a hole before mumbling* “yes”
Bystander: “What was that?”
Agent: “YES I’M A MAAM! WHY COULDN’T WE JUST CALL OURSELVES MONSTER SLAYERS??? THAT’S WHAT THE M AND S STAND FOR!!!”

If you’ve seen one you’ve pretty much seen them all, but in the right mood they are pleasantly mindless. Some of them are free on Peacock.

Hard Knock Life it is then! I only wish I could find a way to twist it to sound just a little more... Dark

Oh, you guys might get a kick out of this :D

Once they get to the organization where they'll be living, they will discover that there are three main divisions, accordingly named:

Science Division

Field Division

And, Shield Division

The Shield Division has a, drumroll please...MIB style Neutralizer :D

Each uniform has one of those patches that you often see on army uniforms that let others know their rank and stuff, and the Shield Division has a special little pressible button in the middle of their patch that basically stuns a person by using a few flashing colors, in the way that bright flashing lights can trigger a seizure. Except that, the division has found a way to trigger the exact part of the brain that won't harm the person, only stun them, for about...eh, ten or fifteen seconds, which gives the soldier enough time to give them a pill or shot of some kind to help erase and/or suppress memories.

It's kind of a last resort tool though, and they will make it pretty clear to the newbies that they can't go using it willy nilly.

Ooh, while I'm on that subject, I'll take some pictures. I still need to get on the computer and properly art them up, but I can at least show you the rough sketches I have.

Please forgive my chewed off nails and bruised thumb XD

Alright, so, just encase you can't read my third grade handwriting, I'm going to write it out below the pictures too.

Shield Division:

-Responsible for dealing directly with the public and calming any fears. Also responsible for apprehending any human threats in the system, and acting as first responders on the field.

Science Division:

-Responsible for the development of most weapons, research into the brain and dimensions, and any possible containment procedures.

Field Division:

-The soldiers who go out to actually fight the monsters

Now, this one's a bit more confusing, so I'm first going to translate my tiny text there, and then I'll go into a bit more detail.

"Leader and second command must master physical and mental abilities in order to have their position. After that, soldiers are ranked by tier. They can have one or both lines on each side. The line on the right side is for mental weapons and capabilities-ones that require greater artistic imaginings. The line on the left is for physical weaponry mastery, and/or tactical capabilities."

So basically, what this badge and symbol means, is it's showing a soldiers position and rank, and how strong they are. If they are really good at using their imagination to conjure up weapons, shields, or even change the environment around them (think sorcery and wizardly), then they will have a little line on the right side of this symbol, high up, that indicates this. If they are better at physical combat and do not have great mental fighting ability, then their little tick on the right side will be low, and on the left side the little bar tick will be higher up to show that they are a brawler.

In order to get a position of leader or second command, you have to be very well trained in both, and your bars will indicate this. Second in command will have a bar directly under the diamond, and a leader will have a bar directly over the diamond, at the very top. Leaders will also often have a badge for all three divisions, as they are expected to dabble in a bit of each field, although this is not a requirement to become a leader. It does, however, place them above other leaders in rank if they become mastered in all three divisions. So it will look something like this:

https://i.imgur.com/KMPZAVT.jpg

Although, on their uniform, their badges will be a bit more spaced out than that.

Also, on the shield badge, that little upside down diamond in the middle is the button they will press to 'neutralize' someone, and the crescent moon shapes are what will flash a specific pattern of lights to knock their brain into a daze.

------------

So yea, these are the main parts of the organization. My own character is going to be a newbie with the rest of them, but where he came from in our old rp, he was a leader and kind of rose up to be the best of the best. I plan on having him be a workaholic in this rp and similarly rise up to a top leader position, but as far as your own characters, it's completely up to you two if you want them to pursue that as well, or just stay a part of a squad. Similar to a real army, if they pursue a full leaders position, they'll be expected to go out into different parts of the world to lead their own teams, or lead their own teams from the same base, but not necessarily always remain together.

I love it! This is so unique and fun!

The way you described your character gave me an idea: What if I play a character that is basically Iceman from Top Gun. Irrationally antagonistic toward and competitive with your character, and eventually comes around when your character impresses him enough. What do you think?

I don't want to spoil too much about him, so I'll just say-go ahead and play what sounds fun to you :D My boy is...a little unique >.> He might not be able to get under his skin like he thinks he might :D

@Poprockz

Nouh has come over to the dark side. He has begun to call the plots "beans" :D
