Super-fast net connection turns into tumble dryer 3:13PM said:
A 75-year-old Swedish woman with the "world's fastest internet connection" has found a novel use for her high-speed equipment.

The Swedish silver surfer made headlines across the world last year when her internet expert son fitted her house with a staggering 40Gb/sec connection.

But instead of using her uberfast connection to download high-def movies in the bat of an eyelid, Sigbritt Löthberg used her blistering home network for more mundane tasks. "She mostly used it to dry her laundry," Hafsteinn Jonsson, a spokesperon for fibre network operator Karlstad Stadsnät told Swedish website The Local. "It was a big bit of gear and it got pretty warm."

"We're considering giving her a 100 gigabits per second connection in the summer," added Jonsson. "Then she'll be able to dry all her neighbours' laundry too."

British surfers today found out when they might get BT's next-generation broadband, with a theoretical maximum speed of 24Mb/sec.

Some might argue that their current broadband lines are slower than washing lines, anyway.

I hate her for her net connect speed.

One word:

Gimme.

Like a whiny little brat, I will beg for that internet connection. Remember that pony I asked for? Forget about the pony. Gimme that internet connection!

Do you have options at least? I get 384kbs upstream Comcast or nothing :p.

Laundry? Hmm?

I stand in front of the entertainment center to get warm.

I stand in front of the TV and pretend the people are watching me. It's the closest I get to being an exhibitionist.

My options are what my parents will pay for.

*Shrugs* :p We don't have any options, it's 56k or whatever we have now. Cable, I think.

Have you tried having sex in front of a packed Yankee stadium? I have. The cheers
alone was worth it.

I find hockey works better. A little faster paced. Sometimes it's 3-4 minutes between cheers in a baseball game and my ego just can't take that.

Yes. I'd feel like the quiet clapping was mocking me. Although all the shouts of "get in the hole" might give me direction.

You always make me burst out laughing.

And don't forget the whispers-- They're all talkin' about your technique, or lack thereof.

I put my hand over her mouth when they say "Quiet Please" during tennis matches.

Beats the hell outta my string and tin cans connection :)

BT are gonna give us 24 meg? I'll believe that when I see it.

Verizon gives some US residents 15MB. I wouldn't think 24 would be out of the question.. with some frame work upgrades.

BT advertise 8 meg now. I get 5.5 according to the last speed test I ran. Plenty fast enough for me, tbh. I'm just dubious about BT being able to provide what they say.

Both ways?

Your ISP I mean. I find your bandwidth hot, but not that hot.

Nah, the upload speed is nowhere near that. But I can fiddle with it if I want to to even them out, but of course it means lowering the d/l speed.

Ahhh. I think the Verizon fiber optic network is the "best" we currently have. 3MB upstream 15MB downstream. Considering the unbelievable regulation we have by the FCC it's kind of amazing they let us have that much. Keep in mind that services probably.. 1 million households max.
