Natalie Towers
Age: 25

Natalie stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her body. The steam from that blisteringly hot water fogged up the mirror and she used her arm to wipe some of it away. She glanced at herself and saw that her brown eyes were lit up with excitement. Normally she wasnt too much of a morning person, but this morning she was anxious to get her day started. Today was the day she was set to start her new job as a detective in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She eyed herself critically in the mirror as she stood there. At the age of 25 she had accomplished quite a lot and made a name for herself as a hard ass at work. On the outside she was gorgeous, and many had made the mistake of assuming she was an airhead before.

It was the blonde hair that almost always suckered them in. Shoulder length and shimmering with hints of gold, it waved around her face beautifully. Her eyes were anything but plain, they were more of a smoldering chocolate brown that could draw a person in and get them lost forever. She was short- only 5'1, but she kept herself in top condition by attending the gym regularly and taking kickboxing and martial arts classes. Her 36c breasts were perky, and topped with rose colored nipples, and her ass was one that women everywhere envied, round and taut. Her stomach was flat with well defined abs, despite her love of all foods fried, and her legs, although not extremely long due to her height, were pure muscle. She might appear dainty and ditzy... but criminals everywhere had been fooled by her gorgeous appearance. She was preapred to kick ass and take names later.

Natalie's husband, Kyle, walked in the bathroom. He glanced at her and she smiled. He was a good man, kind and gentle. The complete opposite to her overpowering personality. But he was also boring. Both in conversation and in bed. They had been married for 5 years, and had been high school sweethearts, so it was a comfortable life, but it lacked any sort of excitement, outside of her work.

"Ready for your first day?" he asked and Natalie nodded.

"I'm nervous, but excited" she replied.

Kyle shuffled back out, presumably to start the coffee. As an accountant, he didnt have to be to work until 9, but had woken up early to see her off. She was due to be at the station around 6. Early enough to get ready for her first shift at 7am.

Natalie applied a scant amount of makeup, wound her hair up into a bun, and got dressed. Plain black bikini underwear and a black sports bra. Nothing fancy. There wasnt any need. Nobody saw them but her anyway. She put on a pair of black pants, a white button up shirt, and her favorite pair of kick ass black heels. She grabbed a black blazer as she walked out of the room. Kyle already had her coffee ready and she smiled gratefully. He could be a dick at times, but there were moments where he was useful.

He wished her luck and she was out the door, heading towards the precinct to report to her new sergeant. She was a damn good officer, and was excited to transfer from a nearby town and start her career as a detective. It was also a bit unnerving since she didnt know a soul there. She knew she would have a new partner but as of yet, she had no idea who that would be. All she could do was pray that they'd get along.

As she pulled in and parked her sporty SUV, she took a deep breath and gave herself a mental pep talk. Glancing at the clock, she grabbed her stuff and walked inside, towards the sergeants office, knocking softly to announce her presence.

Time to get the day started.

A Man Who Is Spinning Downward

Danny O'Connell
Age:32

5:00 Fucking AM

Danny's head pounded like he had been hit by a truck, and as he rolled out of bed, trying not to disturb his snoring wife, as if that were possible, he flipped on the light and winced. Shit, he shouldn't have drank as much as he had last night, or the night before, or the night before that. He looked in the mirror at the two day stubble, and looked at a pair of eyes staring back at him that looked like the before of a Visine commercial. He looked like he had been hit by a truck, he had, a truck driven by Jack Daniels.

He knew better, he knew this was his first day back on active duty, the first day without Jimmy, the first day with the newbie girl. Jimmy! He shut his eyes and rolled his head, cracking his neck. "Good bye buddy". He had vowed, a vow he was sure to break, that last night was the last time he would try to drink that memory away. Ironically he had the lead, had broken down the door of the Latin Kings drug dealer. They had knocked, they had a warrant and then Danny had broken down the door. Danny went right towards the living room, Jimmy went left and BANG, BANG, BANG...the shots had rung out immediately. Before Danny could even turn around, was tumbling out backwards falling on his back blood spouting out of the top of his flack jacket. Danny stepped in over him, swung through the door crouched, and fired blasting the drug lord right between the eyes as he fired over his head.

The perp dead, Danny went to his friend, but it was done. Two bullets hit the vest, one hit the cartoid artery directly, and his partner of 4 years, his best friend, ble out in his arms. The next two weeks were a blur, there was an investigation, Danny was cleared of any concerns of his kill shot. The committe's ruling gave him little solace, part of him wanted to be thrown off the force...the god damn job had killed Jimmy...and left Danny a shell of himself.

Danny O'Connor had grown up in the tough streets of South Philly. His Dad was a cop, and Billy never considered any other career. He was a decent baseball player, and along with studying hard, he had received an appointment to WestPoint. He was a decent cadet, but an excellent shot. He served two tours in Iraq as a sniper, a specialist member of the elite special forces unit. He had 145 kills, and he remembered every one. There wasn't a day he didn't dream about coming home and getting the bad guys, real crooks that hurt his hometown, rather than these nameless faceless, soulless enemy he killed with precision from afar.

That was five years ago, given his training he started as a detective, and he was good. Jimmy was two years older and had taught Billy how to be a good cop, a straight cop, like Jimmy, rarities in South Philly. He had married his high school sweetheart, Brook, the head cheerleader and homecoming queen, who had the highlight of her life when she was 17. Too poor to go to college, she had stayed home and waited for Billy to return. Time can be cruel to young love when the passions of youth grown into two people who have zero common interests, other than they both remember the passion they once shared. Still in good shape, the benefit of being an aerobics instructor, they tried to be in love, they really did...but it was a battle they both knew they were losing.

5:05 Fucking AM

Time for reflection was over. Danny brushed his teeth and shaved, he would work the speed bag at the police house, get rid of some of that edge, due a steamer to soak out the alcohol of last night. Despite the way he was drowning his body in alcohol, Danny was still the same weight he had been in the miliatary. A daily routine of jump rope, pushups, sit-ups, crunches and pull-ups combined with the speed bag and swimming laps kept his 8 pack in tact and his six foot, 180 pound body naturally sculpted.

Bu the time 6:30 AM rolled around, he was a new man. A good workout, a nice steamer, and a hat shower had him feeling better. He rounded the corner with his coffee and ran right into Greg Davis, the assistant DA who also liked the early morning workout. "Fuck Greg, I'm so sorry" Danny blurted out as his coffee covered both of them. Greg was fortunately in his work out clothes and told him not to worry. Danny wa a mess, his only shirt covered in coffee. He had yet to reload his locker with extras and had a full day ahead. Stripping off his shirt as he walked into the Sarge's office, he knew that Sargeant Ralph Wilson, always had a couple of extra shirts in his closet, and when Danny heard the knock he was shirtless just pulling a on a soft purple down out to borrow.

"Sarge..." Danny turned around as he was putting on the shirt[/URL] and saw the beautiful young blonde. Suddenly realizing he was shirtless, he stuttered a bit. "Uhhh, I'm sorry, I was just changing into a different...uh..." He walked over and extended his hand. "...I'm Danny O'Connell and you are?"

Natalie rounded the corner into Sarge’s office, knocking as she did… and freezing in her tracks. She had met with her new sergeant several times. He was in his late fifties, a little round in the middle, and bald on top. The man standing in Sarge’s office, naked from the waist up, was much younger… and about as far as one could get from “round” in the middle. Natalie’s eyes couldn’t help but travel over the well sculpted body in front of her. An 8-pack, bulging biceps, and THOSE muscles… the ones where a man’s lower abs meet his hip flexors… the ones that seem to form a V pointing straight down at FunLand. Natalie realized she was staring as the man turned and thought SHE was the Sergeant as well. She blinked and mentally shook her head… focus!!

“I’m sorry… I’m Natalie Towers” she said, extending a slim, well maintained but practically manicured hand. “I was looking for Sergeant Ralph Wilson” she explained. “Today is my first day, so I needed to report to him and see where I should be and what I should be doing”.

She averted her eyes slightly out of respect, and glanced around the dimly lit office. In her mind, all she could picture was the beautifully sculpted body of Danny O’Connell. He was like some sort of Greek God… and she couldn’t help by compare him in her mind to her husband.

Kyle and Natalie had gotten married soon after high school. Their relationship was one of comfort. Natalie had never been the stereotypical popular girl… she had the looks, but way more brains than your average cheerleading bimbo. Back then she had been driven to be good in two things- academics and softball. And she had done both with staggering success. She had quickly moved up to the top of her class in all things academic, and had helped lead her high school softball team to 3 state championships as a captain and star catcher.

She had met Kyle in one of her advanced placement science courses, and he had been sweet and attentive, completely unlike all of the other assholes at the school. He hadn’t been out to get laid. They had dated for two years, and after she had finished the academy, and he college, they had been together for so long that they had decided to get married. It was what everybody expected of them. The marriage was comfortable and easy, but it lacked any kind of spark. They rarely had sex. Kyle had developed a bit of a “dad bod”... without being a dad, as they didn’t have kids. Natalie, on the other hand, worked extremely hard to stay in top shape for her job.

She worked so much that they rarely saw each other aside from in bed at night. And even then, he was asleep quite often before she got home at night. He spent a lot of time at the local country club playing golf, and she had no desire to be there … that was his life, and she had her own. They were basically roommates and nothing more. There was no love lost, but no love found either.

Natalie heard Danny start to speak and shook herself out of her musings. The comparison between the man in front of her and the man in her home were almost comical. She wondered just who exactly Danny O’Connell was and what his role around the precinct might be. He seemed to be comfortable enough to walk into the sergeants office and borrow one of his shirts… so he must be SOMEBODY of pretty high importance.

Just then she heard footsteps behind her and swung around, coming face to face with the sergeant. He had a booming voice and shook her hand enthusiastically. “Welcome to the family Natalie!” he said jovially. “I see you’ve met your new partner, Danny!”

Natalie’s eyes widened in surprise. Being, at one time, a star catcher... she was pretty prepared to handle whatever life threw at her... but she hadn’t expected that curveball... Not at all.

Who is the newbie, who is the vet?

Well, Danny was flat out embarrassed! He hadn''t known what to do exactly. In hindsight, getting dressed or at least the entire shirt on, maybe few buttons might have been a good idea. Instead he had walked over to introduce himself, extending his hand, and wondering who this hot little number was in front of him. Probably someone from the DA's office or even private practice, but she was young, a paralegal. Whatever it was, she was FINE. He was not a rookie, actually he was a senior detective and somehow over the years he had moved to being a veteran.

So, the detective watched the eyes of the witness, and he allowed himself a little smile, SHE IS TOTALLY CHECKING ME OUT!!! Well that did a 32 year old man good, and the pecs got a little bigger, and the abs a little tighter, if I have and audience, let's put on a show. He watched her eyes linger, slowly moving down his stomach, a lick of the lips NICE. He was half tempted to tease her, Hey, my eyes are up here. But he didn't, why would he, it was nice to have an attractive woman wondering what lie beneath these khaki pants. He let his eyes go down to, if only she knew how dormant this big boy has been, and how much he would like to come out and introduce himself.

Damn, his wife used to get him hard by looking at him, waking him up with blowjobs, wanting his cock in every hole she had. But that was then. She had started drinking heavy long before him, bored of him and his stakeouts, bored with her job as a cocktail waitress, it had been all too easy to stay after work, she would come home either tired or sloppy drunk looking for a meaningless fuck, passing out as often as orgasmng. Over the last three years it just wasn't worth it for either of them. But this, Mmmmm, this was worth bending over or clearing off that big desk for. He smiled again, he wanted to thank her, she at least had him thinking about sex again, if only for an instant and that alone was an accomplishment.

“I’m sorry… I’m Natalie Towers”, and the fantasy vanished, his eyes popped up, Fuck, she wasn't with the DA or any A, she was the name he had been given, no one had cared to tell him she was a babe! This wasn't good, you don't put an alcoholic to attend bar. It had been so long, all he needed was watching her bend over, or a glimpse of cleavage down her blouse, he would be rock hard, damn he was starving...who had done this, who could be this cruel? "Uh, hi I am pretty..." He didn't finish, Sarge came in with a big smile, he had wanted to see Danny's eyes first thing as he saw her, but this was close enough. He could hardly contain his laughter, “Welcome to the family Natalie!” he said jovially. “I see you’ve met your new partner, Danny!” Danny was sure he was blushing, he extended his hand again, much more awkwardly, "Um...it is nice to meet you, I am the Senior Detective who will...well, what he said...I look forward to riding...um, I mean working with you. Once you are done with Sarge here, why don't we go grab a cup of coffee and get to know each other before we head out".

He shuffled out shaking his head. God that had been pathetic, he was the veteran, and he had sounded like the newbie...but then he thought back, and a smile curled his lips, but she was checking me out!

To Play or Not to Play?

Natalie couldn’t help but smile as Danny mumbled a welcome to her and invited her to go get coffee after she was done with the sergeant. She was no stranger to having men comment on her appearance. She knew that she had been blessed in the physical department… it was actually something that she used to her advantage quite often when working. People, men in particular, seemed to respond better to a hot piece of ass than to othes. It was just a matter of fact and she wasn’t ashamed to flaunt it when needed. Still.. It was flattering to know that she had shaken Danny up just a tad. It was a little disappointing, however, that he had to put a shirt on, she mused to herself.

She watched his retreating back as he left the office, and then turned to the sergeant. She had a feeling that he had kept her appearance a secret from Danny on purpose. He seemed to find something quite funny about the situation.

“Good morning, sir” she said, holding out a hand to shake his. She raised a perfectly manicured eyebrow. “Er… do you and my partner swap wardrobes often?” she asked with a playful smile.

Sarge glanced in Danny’s direction with an inquisitive look. “Was that my shirt?” he asked, obviously a bit confused, and Natalie laughed.

“I believe it was, sir” she said, still giggling softly.

“Hmm.. it’s hard to tell with O’Connell” he responded. “Anywho… have a seat, dear. I wanted to have a little talk before you get out there. I wanted to explain a little about your new partner. He is one of the best cops I’ve ever known. Dedicated, hard working, passionate, and just a hell of a guy in general… but Danny is just coming back from a leave of absence. A little while ago, he and his partner were in the middle of a huge takedown with a drug kingpin, and things went real bad, real fast… sparing all of the gruesome details… Danny got the kingpin… but Danny’s partner, Jimmy, was shot first, and bled out in his arms. It screwed him up pretty bad, as I’m sure it would anyone.”

Sarge took a drink from a water bottle on his desk.

“I assigned you together for two reasons… like I said, Danny is one of the best. I think he will be able to mentor and guide you in your career, and you can learn a lot from him… although from what I hear, you’re pretty good yourself and we are lucky to have you. But aside from that, in my experience- and you can call me a chauvinist if you want, I’ll own up to it- women tend to pick up subtle cues that us pigheaded men might miss. Danny says he’s ready to be back on the job, and I’m sure he will put every effort that he can into it… but I’m going to count on you to watch his back. If you pick up on any hints that he’s not as ok as he is trying to be, I want you to come to me immediately. I need my best detective to be all in, mentally. And I think you will be good for him”.

It was a lot for Natalie to process. When it came down to it, in their line of work, your partner was your lifeline and often became your best friend. And to have your best friend die, bleeding, in your arms, would be enough to fuck any man or woman up in the head.

They wrapped up their conversation, and Natalie was dismissed to go find Danny. She was told where to find his desk, and consequently, her own, right next to it, and headed in that direction. She was prepared to do her best in being herself. She wanted to get to know the real Danny behind the mask she was sure he was putting on. He was sitting behind a laptop, obviously engrossed in whatever it was he was reading, as he didn’t seem to see her approaching.

Natalie sauntered up and propped her hip on the corner of his desk. She was fully aware that this brought the curve of her ass directly into his line of sight. Suddenly she was glad that she had opted for her favorite skin-tight skinny fit pants that morning. They fit her like a second skin, and while you couldn’t see anything revealing- they made it obvious that she had an amazing figure. If she had to work with this devastatingly handsome man, she might as well have some fun with it.

“So…” she said, gazing down at him with her sultry chocolate brown eyes. “I take it you weren’t aware of who I was this morning, either?” she asked, smiling. “Sarge seemed to get a kick out of watching us squirm… and by the way, he said he expects his shirt back unscathed”.

In the back of her mind, Natalie was having a hard time getting rid of the thoughts of him without a shirt. She had never been so instantly turned on by a man in her entire life. Sex with Kyle… on the rare occasion that they had it … was extremely vanilla. It was more of an obligation than anything and she almost never got an orgasm out of it. It had been longer than she could remember since she had wanted a man this intensely… and of course it had to be one that was unattainable.

They had to work with each other daily. Starting any kind of relationship besides a friendship would never be a good idea. She had to be able to trust him with her life, and he had to be able to do the same with her. A romance of any sort could be detrimental to their abilities to work together.

Oh… and there was the pesky fact that she was married… and judging by the ring on his finger… so was he.

“So… where can we get that coffee, partner?”

Taking Ownership...

Danny sat there, he had tried to forget. For two weeks, he hadn't read a newspaper, okay the sports section, but only to see the Flyers scores, and he had sure as hell not watched the news. Jimmy's death and he, had been all over it for a couple of days, then his hearing kept it alive for another week, and he wanted none of it. Maybe he was recovering, as he sat at his desk, he was reading up on the Latin Kings. His single shot had set up a free for all, as every lieutenant in the infamous gang made his run at the top. I hope those mother fuckers just kill each other off. He was reading the latest when she sat down beside him. No one would miss that ass, certainly not a man who truly loved fine ass.

He took it in, enjoyed it like a sommelier smelling the bouquet of a select Chateau Margaux. But then two things bothered him, the first he didn't know why, but he saw it clear as day on her left hand, a profound disappointment emanating through his body looking up into those smoky eyes, "You're married?" His voice had been soft, sad. He didn't wait for the answer he knew it, and then frowned at himself. So are you dude, remember? He wished he didn't but he knew this was good, it removed, well at least diminished the temptation, a temptation he knew held no spot in a police partnership. The second was his roomful of "colleagues", who thankfully his beautiful partner could not see. The blown kisses, pelvic thrusts, and index fingers being pushed through the circle created by closing your thumb and index finger. The stupid neanderthals were having a field day, but slowed as they saw the look in the eye of the world class sniper.

"You can tell Sarge, that today is us getting to know each other, and taking a run around the area introducing you to some of my best sources. I plan to wait at least a day before either of us get shot at". He looked up and gave his best smile, and a wink, letting her know he was kidding, sort of. "So, I don't do Starbuck's or any of that yuppy, gen x, gen y shit, we will go to Mama Rosa's Deli around the corner, best coffee, bagels and home made chocolate covered donuts in Southy. If you are going to be my partner I am going to teach you right". He stood up and took her hand to help her off the desk. He knew he felt it, and wondered if she had too, a spark when he touched her, a spark from finger tips to cock and back again. He slid his strong hand on her waist and gently nudged her forward, the spark happened again, stronger and reverberated throughout his entire body. As enjoyable as it felt, he knew trouble when he felt it. That type of chemistry was the last thing they needed. "Why don't you meet me downstairs if you would, introduce yourself to the desk clerk, let him know we will need a car today, a legit black and white". She nodded and despite what was coming, he let himself enjoy the delicious tight, bounding ass as she sashayed out.

With his new partner safely gone, he signaled Jackson the other most experienced detective in the precinct to shut the door. "Listen you pigs, Natalie is now my partner, so that is the last lewd gesture, last cross look and last bit of disrespect she will experience here. That is unless you want to take it up with me...DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR" He was commanding and to the point, he was also the toughest and best shot in the city, let alone this godforsaken precinct. His street cred was beyond question, as was the respect he was held in by every man in that room, most of which he had saved their ass on more than one occasion. Sarge smiled as he sat at his desk listening, Danny took the bright young woman officially under his wing, extending his credibility to her. He wasn't sure if Danny was completely back, but this was a good sign he had officially accepted his new partner...she was a lucky girl.

He saw her downstairs and again put his hand to her waist. He didn't mean it in the slightest way inappropriately, Danny was a man used to taking command, protecting what he cared about, and he had just unofficially taken claim to protect her. However, when they walked into Mama's, he saw the old woman still at the counter making the days pies. "Hello Mama" Danny called out, and she smiled at hearing his voice, but the smile quickly vanished when she saw the beautiful young woman with him. Never one to hold her tongue, Danny saw the scowl, "Who is this, and why is she with you, you're married Danny". Danny laughed, he loved the old woman, and knew she thought of him as a grandson, but the old world values ran deep. "This is Natalie Mama, she is...she is well...my new partner". A tear appeared in the sweet old woman's gray eyes. She had loved Jimmy too, had coffee delivered to her boys on many a stakeout. She had gone to mass every day since the young man had died, rosary in hand, and praying for his handsome soul. Suddenly she softened, and reached out her liver spot stained hand and touched Natalie's cheek. "Welcome, Danny is the best, but he is too good looking for his own good...and so are you. Please be careful, and take care of each other". Her piece said, she turned and headed back to the kitchen to get his standard order.

Coffee and bagels served, he sat down across from his new partner. Suddenly she reached out her hand and took his, he saw the look in her eye, Okay, I guess we are starting here. He looked up into her gorgeous comforting eyes, "I take it Sarge told you about Jimmy?"

Getting Acquainted

“You’re married?”

Natalie was a bit surprised to hear what she was sure was a note of disappointment in his voice as he uttered those two simple words. She glanced down at the plain gold band on her left ring finger. It was a symbol of her vows to Kyle. Vows that she had said with no real emotion, no real conviction. She glanced back at the ring on his finger as well.

“Well… it seems you are as well” she said, giving him an award winning smile. “We will have to discuss these partners of ours in depth at some point”.

Natalie was well aware of the goings-on behind her. Her new coworkers were having a field day teasing Danny about her, and she thought it was funny to see the menacing look that he gave them when he thought she wasn’t looking. So… he was a protective one. She liked that, even though it was completely unnecessary in this case. Natalie could handle herself better than most women. She could take shit and dish it out with the best of them. That was part of what had made her such a popular officer at her old station… she was gorgeous, yes, but she was down to Earth and could take a joke just like one of the guys.

Danny stood then, his tall body towering over her petite one as they were in such close proximity. He reached out and took her hand to help her stand. And when their hands touched...oh my. There was no way she imagined the current of electricity that she felt run between their fingertips. This could be bad... really bad. His hand was large and warm as it moved down to her tiny waist to steer her through the crowd of other officers getting their days started, and she felt that current even more.

So, he’s a gentleman too...she thought to herself as they walked towards the door. His wife must be one helluva lucky lady.

Natalie made sure to add a little sway to her step as she walked, her black high heels clicking lightly on the worn linoleum floor of the precinct. Danny asked her to go down and request a car for their day, and she was glad to do it. She could almost feel his eyes on her ass… as strong as if he were touching her physically, as she walked away.

Smiling, she stepped out of the door, and was a few steps down the hall when she heard his voice, loud and clear above everyone else’s. He had a deep voice with a sexy edge to it, and it was obviously well respected among their peers, because when he spoke, everybody else became quiet. Natalie had yet to hear much about him as an officer, or much about his past. She wasn’t aware of how good of a shot he was, or how driven he was to rid the city of criminals. But it was easy for her to hear his words, and the respect that they commanded, even as she continued to walk down the hall. Much to her dismay, the way that he controlled his coworkers caused her nipples to tighten into tiny rose colored beads beneath her plain black sports bra. Suddenly, she found herself wishing she had worn something just a little more sexy… and maybe a little more padded… that day.

She stopped at the front desk and smiled at the pretty girl who worked there, only to receive a barely concealed glare in response. The girl’s name was Jess, according to her deskplate, and Natalie was surprised by the unprovoked hostility she sensed there. Everyone else, thus far, had been extremely friendly.

“Hi Jess, I’m Natalie” she said to the pretty brunette, extending a hand. Jess nodded in her direction, completely ignoring the offered hand.

“Yeah, I heard your Danny’s new partner” Jess said. “Don’t get shot like the last one. What is it you need?”

Natalie was taken aback, but before she had a chance to confront the woman about her attitude, she saw Danny approaching and though it best to let it slide… for now. She requested their car and grinned at Danny as he once again placed his hand on her hip and they moved away from the desk. They drove a short distance to a small deli she had never seen, and she followed Danny in, her sharp eyes taking everything in at once.

The way that Danny greeted the lively looking old lady behind the counter made it obvious that he was a regular there and Natalie smiled as she heard the obvious affection in his voice, and the old lady’s when she spoke. She listened to the exchange, smiling when Mama Rosa mistook her for a mistress, but then immediately sobering when their exchange became emotional about Jimmy. She averted her eyes politely until Mama Rosa addressed her with a wrinkled hand that showed ages of hard work. A woman Natalie could give her utmost respect to. She thanked her for her kindness, and Danny and Natalie moved away to a secluded table off in the corner.

Natalie decided to confront the elephant in the room then. Without hesitation, she reached out and placed her small hand on his much larger one.

“I take it Sarge told you about Jimmy?”

Natalie nodded. “He did. I am so sorry. I know how close I was with my partner back in Haroldville… and I want to let you know that although I will never replace Jimmy… and I would never even want to try… I promise to be the best partner that I can be.” Her eyes gazed into softly as she spoke. “I know I’m young… and I know how the men around a station react to me”, she said with a knowing smile. “But I promise… I’m good at my job and I give it my all, at all times.”

She took a sip of the delicious coffee before her and leaned back, unknowingly causing her pert breasts to press against the well tailored white button-up shirt she was wearing.

“And by the way… thanks for going to bat for me back there with all the other guys in the room” she said, laughing softly. She knew he wasn’t aware that she had heard him. “I may be small… but I can take care of myself… but I appreciate you doing that, none-the-less.”

“So… tell me about you? You’re obviously good at what you do and well respected… but what about outside of work? Your wife?” she asked, wanting to get to know him on a much more intimate level. It was time she learned what made her new partner tick.

His Story....The Abridged, PG Rated Version

Danny sat down with her in the dark corner, if people came in, he didn't want them disturbing them. She had heard him. "You weren't supposed t hear that. They aren't bad guys, it is...well, you really are beautiful...and..." He laughed, "well they are idiots". He sat back and laughed. "You won't have any more issues"

When her hand reached out to him, his first reaction was to pull back, he was not one for pity. Except...it was her hand...and...It really felt nice."You and your partner were close?". He raised his brow and then shook his head ashamed. He wondered, but that wasn't fair, any good cop and their partner were close, and just because she looked like she did it wasn't fair to assume anything she didn't want to tell him. "I would like to hear about him about your life there, why you left?" He looked into her eyes, "I have no doubt your good at your job, but this is South Philly, Pennsylvania's version of Hell's Kitchen. You are going to see things here, evil violence like you can't imagine, but soon will be commonplace. Jimmy turned me from a soldier into a cop, he was like a brother, and I couldn't save him. I am struggling with that, and I am scared now with you. So, I know you are good at your job, and I want us to be great partners, but I am going to be protective of you. Because I don't ever want to have another partner die in my arms."

He stopped and took a bite of his bagel, cinnamon raisen with melted butter and cinnamon and sugar. He shut his eyes and let the delicious flavor pour over his tongue and then he took a big sip of his coffee, black. "Me I was born here in South Philly, my dad was a cop in this precinct for 30 years, while I was in the Army, he left the precinct late one night, and got hit by a drunk driver broad side on the way home. My mother still lives in the same house I grew up in with one of my kid sisters. I had five sisters, two older and three younger. My sister's raised me as much as my mother, and we are all close". He smiled and looked off lost in memories of learning how to dance from his older sisters and then teaching how to dance the younger, rescuing damsels in distress, and learning how to respect and treat women. "We were raised catholic and I want to mass twice a week, was an alter boy at St. Pat's until I went to West Point. I haven't been since and I'm not sure why, as I sure have seen and done things that make me hope there is an almighty god and an ability to find salvation."

His eyes looked back at her, and this time his blue eyes looked deep into hers. "You mentioned that we should discuss our spouses in depth. I am not sure how much depth I have to share. My wife and I were high school sweethearts...." He laughed, "My God that feels so long ago. We don't have any children..." Another wry smile. How ironic was that The only reason they had probably gotten married at all, was she got pregnant while he was home on leave his senior year at Westpoint. He had done the right thing and married her, even though he had evolved significantly from the three sport high school star in high school, and she seemed to stay still trying to bask in the increasingly diminished light of homecoming queen. Soon after he had returned to school, she called to tell him she had miscarried, and somehow he always had a sinking question if there really was a baby or had she just desperately wanted her MRS. Now, she was an aerobics instructor whose looks meant everything. They had discussed children, Danny so wanted to be a Dad someday, but she always had an excuse as to "not right now honey, but yes soon". She was still so conscious of her figure, still being the homecoming queen, she didn't realize how beautiful a woman looked with the glow of motherhood. "Anyhow, we got married just before I graduated, and I know it isn't easy being married to a soldier and now a cop. There are aspects of my life that are just hard for her to comprehend, but we try". He cut it there, and there was so much more, but he didn't need to dump on her, if those aspects came out at all, it would be after many a stakeout or many a beer after work.

For fun, well, Jimmy and I probably spent too many nights after work in local bars talking or commiserating about the job, trying to wash off the day shooting pool, throwing darts, playing poker or watching the Pillies or Flyers games. I am a triathelete and a bit of a workout warrior. When I was a sniper I had a resting heartrate of 42, and maybe it is a point of pride but I like to keep myself in that situation. I will show you something later, but I'm a pretty good shot, and I hope that helps keep both you and I alive." He stopped, again knowing the irony, Boy that sounded stupid given how little it had helped Jimmy. That actually wasn't true, Danny had saved Jimmy a half dozen times over the years, with laser shots through the smallest of windows. But they had chased the baddest of the bad, and their are just moments where your luck runs out, but that wasn't Danny he took ownership, he should bave been able to protect his partner, and he vowed to protect this one.

"That's sort of the Reader's Digest version, there is a bunch more, but you and I have a lot of time ahead of us, and we will share our stories, but that is sort of mine at least a high level. So..." He kept holding her hand, he had not let go the whole time and suddenly felt self conscious and pulled back..."mmm, sorry". But now one set of dreamy eyes looked deeply into another..."So what is your story...how does a woman as beautiful as you decide to choose a career to hang around with guys the likes of me...and chase the baddest of the bad?"

Cheers to a Good Partnership

Natalie felt herself actually blush when Danny called her beautiful. She hadn’t blushed in years. She was used to the sexual comments and attention that she seemed to elicit from men.Usually men called her hot, sexy, a fine piece of ass… rarely did she hear something classy like “beautiful”. And yet she was as far as conceited as possible. She knew she looked good, and she wasn’t afraid to use that to her advantage when it came to her job. But when it came to her personal life, she usually tried to tone down the level of sexy as much as possible. What was the point when your husband wasn’t interested in how you looked, anyway?

“My partner and I were close” she told him when he asked. She hesitated, unsure of how much she was willing to admit already. The time for that story would come, she was sure.

She listened to Danny speak about Jimmy and her heart nearly shattered in her chest. She couldn’t imagine the pain he must have been going through for the past few weeks. And if it were here, she wasn’t sure she would be able to be back on the job again already. Her heart warmed a bit as he explained that he would be protective of her, and she smiled her thanks. She listened as he explained his own family life, and couldn’t help but laugh at the extreme differences their seemed to be between his and hers. She had only one brother, he was one of six. She had never been to church once in her life, his family was pretty religious. Her family had all but disowned her when she became an officer, he came from a family who supported law enforcement completely.

Danny brought up his wife next. She was a bit surprised to hear a certain lack of enthusiasm when he spoke about her. In her mind she had imagined him being completely in love with a gorgeous woman, raising a family, but apparently she wasn’t too thrilled with being married to a cop. It sounded vaguely similar to her own marriage and she smiled at him. He explained then that he was a triathlete and had been a sniper in the armed forces. To say she was impressed was an understatement.

When he let go of her hand, Natalie felt a profound sense of loss that she couldn’t explain. She hadn’t realized they were still holding each other, and her fingers grew cold when he let go.

“Well…” she said, leaning back in her chair and crossing her legs, eyeing him slyly.”I can’t even begin to claim to be on par with a world class sniper… but I’m a decent shot” she said. “And you’re a lot bigger than me… but as far as the working out thing… I’m pretty sure I can keep up on that front”.

“As for me…When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to become an officer. I wanted to use my brain…” she smiled almost shyly… “and I have a pretty good one, if I do say so myself… but I wanted to use it for something good.”

She took a bite of her own bagel, plain with strawberry cream cheese, and it melted in her mouth. She couldn’t stifle the moan of pleasure.

“This is delicious” she said. “But anyway… I went to community college and worked on my degree in criminal justice. By the time I turned 21 I had graduated with honors, and applied immediately to the academy. I was top in my class. But throughout it all, my family was trying to dissuade me. I grew up in… shall we say… a “well-off” community. My father is a marketing manager for a large chain of hotels and my mother is your stereotypical trophy wife. Basically they tell me I’m wasting my life away because I choose to “slum in the streets with a bunch of criminals”... yet my brother became a criminal defense attorney and now works out in Los Angeles making all the big bucks getting the same dickhead criminals off on technicalities… and according to them he made a good choice. According to them, the only good choice I’ve ever made was marrying my husband, Kyle”.

She was concerned after she said it, that it*was obvious from her mini-speech that she despised her family’s choice in values and didn’t agree with their lifestyle at all…was it too early to be that candid? And then, the all too obvious eye roll that accompanied her comment about her husband she embarrassingly realized, likely hadn't gone unnoticed.

“Anyway…” she said, waving a dismissive hand. “Because I didn’t really have the support of my family, the only support I had once I started as a deputy, was my partner. His name is Frank, and he’s about 30 years older than me” she said with a wistful smile. “He’s more like a father to me than my own ever has been. He taught me a lot and helped me excel in my career already. I know this job will be a lot more intense than anything I’ve ever experience, but I think I’m ready to handle it thanks to his mentoring. I still talk to him every single day… sometimes more than once.” She took another sip of coffee.

“And as for me and my husband… it seems like we have sort of similar stories there. I married my high school sweetheart as well. He doesn’t understand how I feel about my job. The long hours. How even when we are off, it never really quits. My mind is always going over something.” She shrugged. “I guess if you don’t do it, you just can’t understand. We’ve don’t have kids either… I want them, but he says it isn’t fair to bring them into this world if I’m just going to be working nonstop… and maybe he’s right” she said softly, her eyes getting a little dreamy looking at thought.

She shook her head slightly and finished off her bagel. “Well… I don’t know what made the sergeant put us together like this… but I think he is on the right track. I look forward to spending time with you and working together.” She held her coffee cup up then. “Cheers to an amazing partnership”.

A Most Unwanted Interruption...

Danny watched her body language as she leaned back and crossed her legs and he liked it. He definitely liked her body. His wife had a good figure too, but she tried so damned hard to be noticed. Not Natalie, she had a quiet ease, a confidence that he found so appealing. She was young but comfortable in her skin, she was gorgeous, as attractive as any woman he could remember meeting in a long time. But that wasn't what was so sexy it was how she probably knew it, but didn't seem to care. She didn't deny it, actually she was telling him that if men were stupid enough to give her an advantage, underestimate her because of it, she would let them and take advantage of their folly.

He smiled at her opening, her confidence, "So you think you can keep up with me, I look forward to working out with you..." He stopped, Jimmy and he had run, swam, lifted together, but that had been presumptuous, particularly given she was a woman, and a beautiful woman at that and might be uncomfortable exposing herself in that way...."I'm sorry...that is if you would like to, I seem to be short a work out buddy, but I didn't mean". Oh hell, he was floundering again, and he had to get over how attractive he found her, and just let her be his partner, no matter how tempting she might be. He listened, it had to be tough, her actions had clearly alienated herself from her family.

"It sounds like your parents since of success is based on many and social standard, rather then making the world a better place. For what it is worth, I think what you did is admirable. That is self serving, because I did the same thing, but we will make a difference. I will tell you, what your brother does, makes me sick, I won't lie. I am not for dirty cops, or police brutality. But we pour our lives on the line to take out these bad guys, and to have some lawyer use technicalities to put filth back on the street, I don't know how you are able to sleep at night."

The story about Jim was nice. "I'm glad you had, actually have, someone like that." He imagined the older man, certainly noticing her beauty, but having more the pride of a father than a potential lover. He sounded like a cross between his expartner and his own father, both of whom had helped him become who he ws today. That realization also saddened him. Jimmy had stopped being a mentor long ago, but his father was his idol until the day he died. The hard fact was both were now dead, and an overwhelming sense of loneliness overtook him.

He waited and she finally go to her husband. He watched, as she described them as childhood sweethearts, but nothing in her body language or delivery, made her sound like she loved him or really even liked him. Was she just embarrassed to tell her new partner how much she loved her husband, or was she in a similar space as he. Married more to their job than to their spouse trying to make unions work that should have never been forged, but too competitive, too stubborn or perhaps to blindly loyal to undo past mistakes once made. He saw the eye roll and knew it wasn't embarrassment over loving her husband, but rather frustration at not loving him at all. Now it was he who leaned forward, his hand out, wanting to acknowledge her dilemma. Not because he wanted her, but because he knew her loneliness, her frustration, and to share in the old adage, misery loves company. "You want children, I think that is great. I know it sounds had, but I know many female cops who have children. There are sacrifices, but the biggest thing is to have a partner who wants them as badly as you do, and is willing to make all the same sacrifices.

Danny smiled at her toast and smiled, "Somehow I think it is fate, I don't know why, but I think at this point we may be meant for each other". He raised his cup and they clicked in agreement. They finished their meals and set the plates on the counter. As they walked out, Danny was again leading her ahead of him his arm once again around her waist. The had just opened the door when he saw it. Years of training had taught him to always be scanning. And he saw the 2005 Impala approaching them...he saw the sawed off barrels reflect the sun in the back seat, and he immediately reacted with the speed and training of one of the world's best professional killers. "Down" he screamed as he grabbed Natalie's jacket and threw him behind her back into the restaurant. "Down everybody down on the ground now!" He screamed quickly looking back and seeing Mama and the customers hit the floor. Natalie floundering to get up and understand What the hell!!!! Again, "Down, Natalie don't, stay'..." and he was gone.

With the hand eye coordination and abilities that Westpoint itself had called once in a decade innate skills, he barrel rolled out of the door, just as the front window was shattered by the first sawed off shot gun blast. The second tried to hit the fast moving cop. Danny felt a few of the shotbgun pellets hit his upper left chest and shoulder. He paid no attention, he was in the zone and would not feel or let pain impact him. One roll and Danny was on a knee, pistol in hand a single shot took out the back seat shooter, Danny never missed. The driver hit the accelerator, as Danny moved to take him out next. However, Danny looked at the scene, he knew with a second shot he would get the driver, but there were people, men, women, children on the street. If he took out the driver there could be massive casualties so e held his shot. And the Impala was gone.

He walked back in the deli, Natalie was already up and they helped Mama and the customers up. Danny turned to Natalie, "I thought this might happen, they are looking for a new leader and I am the contest, there is a bounty on my head. And if you are with me, there may be one on yours too soon. I won't be going home, and I need to get my wife out of town. Overall, I need to get moving. It is your call and I don't blame you if you don't..." Suddenly he saw the blood, his blood on the shirt and the 10 small holes. "Shit a little bit got me....Mama do you have alcohol, tweezers, and Hydrogen Peroxide?" He began unbuttoning his shirt, assessing the damage. The good news was itt was generally superficial, short term pain and healing, bu he had fought through much worse. "Natalie, can you pull the pellets and apply the alcohol and peroxide?" Danny's mind was whirring, for many reasons he needed to find that Impala now. He looked up at her, she was just staring at him. "I'm sorry, I really hadn't planned to get you shot at on your first day....Shit, and look at what I did to Sarge's shirt!"

She grinned as he asked her to workout with him. It had almost sounded like a challenge to her… and she loved a good challenge. “I guarantee you I can keep up… I think the question is, can you keep up with me? I’m smaller… lighter on my feet” she said teasingly, her eyes sparkling with laughter.

Danny held his hand out to her as she was speaking about Kyle and their fingers entwined in a comfortable way. It seemed as if he understood her situation more than she thought he did, and she was beginning to trust him already.

“There are sacrifices, but the biggest thing is to have a partner who wants them as badly as you do, and is willing to make all the same sacrifices.”

His words really struck a chord with her. He was right. If she really wanted children, there was no reason why she couldn’t have them. Yes, her job could be dangerous, but if Kyle really loved her, shouldn’t he want to help her achieve every dream possible? They finished eating, returned their dishes, and bid farewell to Mama Rosa and the other ladies in the deli. Danny’s arm was once again around her waist protectively as they walked, and Natalie couldn’t help but be focused on the way he felt when he touched her. It was nice to be touched in such a way…

DOWN! Down everybody down on the ground now!

Natalie didn’t even know what hit her. All she knew was one minute they were walking out of the door after sharing an eye opening meal, and the next, she was on the ground behind him, screaming at her to stay down, even as she rolled to a crouch and pulled out her own weapon on instinct. She heard the blasts from the other gun, as well as his own. Glass shattered, people screamed. Natalie’s quick eye watched as Danny took out the shooter, but he stopped at that, and she understood why as she watched people scrambling everywhere outside on the street. Too many dangers for that car to careen ahead with a dead driver. The tires squealed and the car rounded a corner.

Natalie was on her feet instantly, assessing people in the deli for injuries, and thankfully there didn’t seem to be any. She called the shooting in, and she was helping Mama Rosa to her feet when Danny walked up beside them to help as well.

“"...and I need to get my wife out of town. Overall, I need to get moving. It is your call and I don't blame you if you don't"… she heard his words and turned to look at him.

She noticed the blood on his shirt at the same time that he did and her heart stuttered in her chest, eyes growing wide at the sight of all of the blood on his… or rather Sarge’s... shirt. She took a deep breath and her gaze moved to his face, training kicking in as she accepted the first aid supplies that Mama supplied quickly. His face was a little pale but he seemed to not be in too much pain as Mama led them towards a small staff lounge in the back, and Danny stripped off the shirt.

Mama left them alone in the lounge, and Natalie turned to face him. The shirt was gone now, and her eyes couldn’t help but roam over the finely tuned muscles that lined his stomach and chest, not to mention his biceps.

“Christ, O’Connell” she murmured as she finished sanitizing the tweezers. “Sit down” she , instructed, placing a small hand on his uninjured shoulder and pressing him down into a hard straight back chair. “I really didn’t want to be brushing up on my first aid skills today”.

She was standing close to him, her perky breasts and deep cleavage inches from his eyes and face, hands nimbly removing tiny pieces of lead from his body, dropping them into a small bowl Mama Rosa had provided. Her breathing was finally returning to a normal pace and she inhaled deeply, noticing the subtly sexy masculine smell of his skin. Her mind was racing with the implications of everything that he just happened.

“Where is your wife?” she questioned him. “And where will you stay? Did you recognize the driver, or was it just another of the drug lord’s cronies?”

She finished picking the lead from his ravaged body, and with gentle hands began to clean the wounds, applying bandages as she did so. His muscles were tight beneath her fingers and she knew he was tense, ready to spring into action at any moment’s notice. They could hear sirens pulling up from all directions, and officer’s in the front of the deli questioning people, taking charge of the crime scene.

“Sarge is gonna be pissed about your shirt” she said, once she was done bandaging the wounds. She was leaned down, cleaning up, and her breath tickled across his ear and neck as she spoke, her arm brushing his softly as she moved.”But I think you’ll survive” she continued.

He stood then, and she was once again all too aware of how he towered over her petite frame. It was then that she noticed her hands were trembling. They hadn’t been when she was working on him, but her body seemed to want to have a delayed reaction now that the immediate threat was over. Her soft brown eyes sought out his, like a fawn, alert yet scared, and she was shocked at the emotion that rocked through her when their eyes connected.

She shook her head slightly and picked up the soiled materials in order to hide the fact that her hands were shaking. She didn’t want him thinking she couldn’t handle the job. It had nothing to do with that, and everything to do with how close she had come to losing her new partner, already! And she was floored to acknowledge how much that would mean to her in such a short time.

Taking a deep breath after throwing away the trash, she turned to look at him again, pasting a smile on her pale face. “By the way… thank you. For saving me” she said softly, reaching out without thinking and touching his forearm. “But you ruined my chance at getting a shot” she joked.

It was obvious she was shaken up but fighting valiantly to not show it. Even the most seasoned Vet would be a little shook by the events that had just happened on their first day on the job. She just hoped he wouldn’t see it as a weakness. She had held it together well, while she needed to. Now she just needed a few moments of downtime to compose her thoughts and feelings.

What's Your Body Telling You?

Jose Roberto Quintana heard the first blast and smiled, Miguel was his homey, his friend and would soon be the leader of the powerful Latin Kings. Sure, Jose was not the man, never would be the man, but he was with the man and he knew it. He would be Jose's guy, his driver, and just the throw away pussy the new King's leader would throw his way, not to mention the coke and the parties, he would be a very happy man. All they head to do was pop this gringo cop who had killed Don Miguel, their former leader. The cop had a big rep, they called him the Iraqi Assassin in the Kings for his supposed role in the Special Forces, but those reps were always bullshit. He had never met anyone as vicious as his man, and today the fucking gringo would die, and they would be legend, Miguel, and his trusted driver, Jose. He turned the corner with his Impala, they had watched the cop and some hot little piece of ass leave the precinct and go into the old deli. They had guys on the streets watching and they got the text as they got up from the table.

He turned his head and suddenly things were moving quickly, somehow the cop must have spotted them as he pushed the blonde cunt back inside, but then fuck did he move. The first blast shattered the glass, no biggie, Miguel hadn't expected that, why would he. He heard the cock and blast of the second barrel his buddy squealing like the red blooded, crazy mother fucker, killer Jose knew. Fuck the cop moved like a god damn panther, POP. Miguel never saw if his shot had hit or not, and the answer was, almost. Danny's bullet hit him dead between the eyes, and suddenly the far passenger side back seat window of his impala was splattered with the skull and brains of his dreams. "FUCK" Jose screamed as he saw the cop take aim, and Jose knew he was a dead man. As good as this guy's rep was, he was better in action, and Jose...pissed himself. Looking in terror, wanting to see his maker before he died, he recited a hail mary and waited for the hangman's axe. It never came, the cop had taken the higher ground, and Jose peeled out of there. Fuck this, fuck everything, the Kngs wanted to kill this dude, Jose would take a pass. Jose dumped the car and the body in an ally and took off on foot.
He had a cousin in the projects, he had to get away, had to figure out, what the fuck he was going to do.

Danny sat down in the back area, and let Natalie strip off the bloody shirt. Coming down off the adrenaline high, he realized it hurt like shit. He was hard, he was always hard in a fight like this. Jimmy had explained it to him long ago. When he used to kill in the army he was always hard, he hadn't told anyone, embarrassed he must be psycho. Jimmy had explained after their first fight, looking down and seeing the tent in his new partner's pants. "Good, you were born for this. In these moments, the top ones engage, their whole body at peak performance, the bad ones shrivel, wanting to run. Fight or flight, it is as basic as it gets. You will be great Danny, and don' t worry. I am as hard as a 16 year old the first time he gets to strip off a cheerleader's lollipops."

Her hands felt amazing on his chest, but she was professional and focused as hell. She didn't seem to care about the great view she gave him to her bra covered breasts. It was well padded, but he was almost positive her nipples were hard. he hoped so, he hoped she was a keeper. He enjoyed her perfume, inhaling it and letting himself just enjoy a beautiful woman versus the searing pain of the buckshot removal. "Thank you" he mumbled. Fuck she was sexy, so amazing in control, doing her job, when he knew her heart had to be racing. Ahh, hmmm, oh...he grunted as the last of the remnants were all removed and deposited in the pan. Her hands soothing as she cleaned the wounds. Sure it stung but it was necessary. He had watched her eyes, they had looked at him with caring and compassion, but also fire. They had scanned his chest, but not lustily but clinically, making sure she got everything. But never once did they go low, never once did she notice the massive tent, raging hard on of her new partner.

Complete she got up, and then he saw her, hands shaking, looking at him with wonder, not fear, wonder. He stood up and towered over her, but his voice was gentle and he put his strong hands on her tiny waist. Damn she felt good, and oh how he needed release, but this was not the time. This was her moment, her body would be telling her what she was, was this career for her, and could she be the partner he needed. Softly, almost a whisper he spoke, "It's okay, I'm fine, but I am impressed, it isn't fear you are feeling, it is adrenaline, adrenaline and a desire to take action that you never imagined you could feel, or at least I am 95% I am sure I am right. But your body will tell you Natalie, and listen to it. You either want this right now like you have never wanted anything, or you want to run like hell, there really is no other option. Flight or fight, you are born one way or the other...what is your body telling you Natalie...ARE YOU WET?"

Realizations

His hands were so large, that when he put them on her waist, she could feel them wrap almost completely around her body. Her own hands came down to rest on top of his. Her nipples raked against the lace of her bra and she inhaled deeply as she listened to his words. Her eyes level with those delicious pecs and abs, that gorgeous body. At first she wasn’t sure she understood what he was talking about. But then she felt it, as their bodies shifted slightly, she noticed that he had an absolutely massive erection behind the fly of his pants.

“What is your body telling you Natalie...ARE YOU WET?"

He said it just as she realized what she was feeling against her belly, and her shocked eyes flew to his, wide and questioning. “W-wet?” she stammered. “I… I dont think I understand what you mean” she said shaking her head, her body trembling almost violently with pent up adrenaline and passion combined. There was no way he could miss how viciously her body was quivering.

Danny explained then, what his past experience had taught him. That if you are really cut out for the job, your body will respond in ways you never would have imagined.

Natalie was speechless for a moment. Is that what she was feeling?

She did a mental inventory of her body. Her nipples were hard and aching, straining against the bra. And her panties were wet in between her legs. She hadn’t realized it until that moment. Her body was screaming for sexual release. And it had been since the moment Danny had taken her to the ground and blew out the asshole in the Impala’s brains.

“I am wet. Wetter than I’ve been in a long time” she admitted. “I want to go out and go after them” she said with a steely resolution to her voice. She didn’t say what else she wanted to do.

The downside to this realization was that Danny wasn’t turned on because of HER… it was the job. Here she was, barely able to contain herself from taking him right then and there… and all he wanted was to get the bad guy. She hoped the disappointment she was feeling didn’t show.

At least one of them had a little sense.

It wasn't just the heat of the battle....

Her little waist felt...amazing. He could feel the strength in her core and he could only imagine the perfect definition of her little tummy, abs just right, not ripped like a body builder, now more like s swimsuit model, strong, supple but oh so feminine. She was smart and gutsy, but she was 200% woman, all the right parts in proportions that could only be delivered by divinity. He smiled, maybe she would bring him back to God, there had to be a God to create something this beautiful, smart and sexy.

Her hands covered his, was it to steady him or make sure, he didn't let those hands verture to territories likely forbidden. Did she realize the show she had given him, minute after minute of perfect few of gorgeous symmetrical peaks, perfect in volume and structure. If only situations were different and hands could have torn buttons apart, and slipped cup of bra to the side to suckly perfect pert breast.

Suddenly his mind came back and he was once again looking into eyes that would be so easy to get lost in. What was she doing, and he realized, she was doing inventory. Breathing check, nipples, check, tender, delicious cunt, check! “I am wet. Wetter than I’ve been in a long time...”. CHECK! He let her finish and smiled, "I knew you would be...less than one tenth of one percent of people respond like we are right now, human instinct is to survive not engage particularly where the stakes are clearly life and death. But if you really want the bad guys, then we are all in...all the chips will be on the table...you and I won't be going home tonight. We will pack small bags, get cash from the office...and get completely off the gird and you surprise as our weapon, not theirs".

He watched her eyes as they had gone down, he was still rock hard, nine inches of thick irish cock barely constrained by the fly of his khakis...he watched that perfect chest heaving, those perfect breasts rising up closer for his inspection only to fall back down, those tight pants that she had already told me held her dripping wet sex He also saw the bit of disappointment, she had thought...and he smiled and leaned in. "We are partners, we have to be able to move and not let other things get in the way, no matter how tempting...but yes my body reacted to the fight, stepping up to the danger..." He let go of her waist and took his index finger and ran it from the middle of her forehead and trailed it down the bridge of her cute, little nose. He leaned in wanting to kiss her, really kiss her, but instead his head turned slightly up and lips softly caressed her forehead softly, "...but that isn't all it reacted to, not even close....and that scares the hell out of me!"

Interruptions

Pack their bags… completely off the grid… Natalie would never had imagined that morning when she was walking into her first day, that this would happen so fast. Her mind flew briefly to Kyle. He was going to be LIVID. He hated when work kept her away. Oh well. She shrugged off the thought immediately. Her eyes trailed almost lazily down his body, over that perfect body, to where she was now more than aware of his impressive length straining behind his trousers. And impressive seemed to be an understatement…

When he let go of her waist, her first instinct was to beg him not to. His hands felt too good there. Her own hand instinctively went to his chest, just below where he was now bandaged, and she marveled at the feel of those strong muscles there. Then she felt his fingers on her face, tenderly, teasingly, moving down her nose, making her laugh softly. He seemed to be such a passionate man... How could any woman resist him?

Natalie felt him lean in and her heart began to race. Was he going to kiss her? Surely not after what he had just said… the job turned him on, not her. But he surprised her, placing a gentle, caressing kiss on her forehead, and she almost melted into a puddle then and there on the floor. Nobody had ever treated her with such tenderness.

"...but that isn't all it reacted to, not even close....and that scares the hell out of me!"

Her eyes flew to his, wondering if he meant what she thought he did, and judging by the fire burning in his eyes, she thought he did. Her body reacted instantly, growing even more wet and tight immediately. She opened her mouth to reply… but closed it and quickly took a large step backwards, putting some unwanted distance between them.

She heard several pairs of footsteps coming down the hallway in a hurry. Mama Rosa had done a good job of keeping people away from them, but obviously it was time to return to the chaos that was happening around them.

Sarge himself burst through the door, followed by a paramedic and several other uniforms.

“Two hours back on the job, and this happens!” Sarge all but roared. The paramedic glanced at the bandaged wounds on Danny’s chest, and obviously decided things were under control as he left again. Sarge glanced at her, worry in his eyes, then back to Danny. “You know what this means, right? You all have to go under” he said gravely. “You’ve got a bounty on your head man, and now she probably does too. We’ve got a safe house ready for you already on the outskirts of the city, and I’ve got Jess gathering some necessities for both of you”.

Natalie recognized the name of the hateful front desk receptionist, but her eyes were on Danny, trying to gauge his reaction. Sarge wasn’t saying anything they didn’t already know, and she felt a surprising trickle of excitement course through her body. Life was about to get REALLY interesting.

A Decision Of A Lifetime

Now was the moment he panicked. Oh My God, what did I just say?...Hard?...More than just the fight? Scared as hell. She looked up quickly, her hand gently on his chest, her eyes searching his. Was she happy, startled or offended? She opened her mouth, and he was dying to hear her reaction, no matter what it was, just end this misery. But then she stepped backed quickly. He closed his eyes...Question asked and answered. Was it the pain of rejection or pure humiliation? Danny heard the people coming in and did the only thing he could do, as he stood there felt stripped of all dignity, he did a mea culpa. He looked at her one last time and mouthed the only thing he could, "I'm sorry".

Sarge barged in, and tried to make light, “Two hours back on the job, and this happens!...You know what this means, right? You all have to go under...You’ve got a bounty on your head man, and now she probably does too. We’ve got a safe house ready for you already on the outskirts of the city, and I’ve got Jess gathering some necessities for both of you”.

Danny spun and glared at his superior officer, "Sorry about the shirt, but the shooter is dead, and we're all alive so you're welcome". He saw the big man look at him and knew Danny had more to say. "Listen, I know I have a bounty, I need to call Brook immediately and get her out of town. They may try to hit my house or take her as leverage to smoke me, either way, she has to leave, and she is going to be pissed. I will send her to her grandmother's but she will need constant police protection in Allentown until we end this, okay?" The big man nodded, he knew Danny was right.

"As for my young partner here. Let's tap the brakes. If she goes with me, she is making a decision of a lifetime. Yes, they saw her with me, but they also saw me throw her inside, and head out. She could be dead or injured. If we call the paramedics back in here, and she goes out on a gurney and taken to the hospital and released, she is free and clear. Sarge, I may be under for a while, I am going to have to clear this up, and right now my best shot is to find that driver and try to turn him. He knows, if he had a brain, I could have splattered his brains just as easily as I did his man. My guess is he was the hitman's bitch, and now he is scared shitless, probably literally. I have to find him now."

He looked at her, he needed to give her the out he was sure she wanted, she couldn't possibly want to go off alone with them after he had made such a complete ass of himself. "Sarge, she is young and married, she comes with me, and although I don't think it is there now, I think there would be soon. Natalie, I can't ask you to do this? It will be dangerous as hell, and don't think it will be glamorous because it won't. We could be holed up in the safehouse or shitty hotel rooms a lot. We will be chasing scum, and your husband will hate it. This could be a life decision and we can't make it for you?"

He let her reflect on what he said as he called his wife. It didn't go well, but she knew when he spoke like this, it wasn't a question and she would be a fool to argue. He hit end and looked at Sarge. "I can't go home, so have Jess, get me 4 pairs of jeans, the 8-10 pairs of boxer briefs, t-shirts, my leather jacket, and 2-3 hoodies, running shoes and loafers. Get me $5,000 in cash, and a burner phone. Once a car I am using gets identified, I will need to switch it. We will arrange the pickups and exchange for new ones. We've been through this before Sarge...you know the drill."

Sarge only smiled, "He and Danny and Jimmy had been here before. He already had the wheels in motion, but Danny was right about Natalie. She did have a way out, and if she was smart she would take it. "Natalie, Danny is right. Your partner here, is one of the few cops in America that basically has a license to kill. He is dangerous, and I frankly should have anticipated the Latin Kings, would want retribution. We can get you out of here, Danny knows what he is doing and we can get him back up when he needs it...there is no reason you have to go down this trail with him?"

Determination

I’m sorry.

Natalie was sure that’s what she had saw Danny mouth. She wasn’t sure what he was saying for...the shooting? Their conversation? Either way, in her mind, she didn’t believe he had a single thing to be sorry about. Danny and the Sarge began having a heated conversation. Danny was adamant that his wife get out of town.

If we call the paramedics back in here, and she goes out on a gurney and taken to the hospital and released, she is free and clear.

Natalie felt her temper flare. He wanted her to pretend to be injured or dead and back away from the situation, like a coward? Fat chance in hell! One thing she was notorious for back at her old station was her tenacity. Call it determination, call it being a stubborn ass, whatever you wanted to call it… she did not back down from a fight

Natalie, I can't ask you to do this? It will be dangerous as hell, and don't think it will be glamorous because it won't. We could be holed up in the safehouse or shitty hotel rooms a lot. We will be chasing scum, and your husband will hate it. This could be a life decision and we can't make it for you?

His eyes pleaded with hers. He was giving her an out. Not because he thought she couldn’t handle it, but because he thought she wouldn’t want to be involved in something like this already. The temper that had flared up earlier diminished. He was trying to be protective of her. He didn’t want her to risk herself or the life she had built with her husband for his situation.

Of course, Kyle was going to be pissed off. He hated when she even had to stay late at work, let alone disappear for God knew how long. They had never gone through something like this where she actually had to go away for a while. This could potentially be a huge trial in her marriage. Kyle didn't approve of her job as it was. He wanted a wife who would sit home and wait for him to get home. One who would have a five course meal hot and ready for him when he walked in the door. One that he could tell what to do, and when to do it. And he hated the fact that Natalie was not that kind of a woman. He made it obvious through his thinly veiled comments about her and her work. He called what she did a "power trip" and often times said that he believed the only reason she did it was to get attention from her male coworkers. He didn't understand how important it was to her, or why she did it. All he knew was that she wasn't going to stand around let him direct her life. It was a constant power struggle between the two of them.

Upon his return, Natalie could tell the conversation with his wife didn’t go over well. His face was set in stone, a look of resignation there. She wondered if Brooke was giving him a hard time because she was scared for his life.

Sarge turned to her then.

We can get you out of here, Danny knows what he is doing and we can get him back up when he needs it...there is no reason you have to go down this trail with him.

Natalie’s jaw was set, her arms crossed beneath her pert breasts, unknowingly pushing them up even farther than usual. Her normally soft eyes blazed with fire as she looked at Sarge.

“He’s my partner” she said simply. “That’s reason enough for me. I didn’t take this job just to run at the first hint of trouble. My goal is the same as Danny’s, to get that scum off of the streets.” She looked over at Danny. “And if that means going under and living the not-so-glamorous life,“ she shrugged. “I think I can manage.”

She looked back at Sarge then. “I’ll need clothes myself. They have no idea who I am. I think if we watch our backs, I can get to my own house and gather my stuff without them figuring out where I live. I’ll have to let my husband know also”.

Her eyes traveled between the two men in front of her, daring either of them to argue with her. She had made up her mind, and nothing would change that.

Preparing For Take-Off

The conversation with Brooke was as he expected. "How could he inconvernience her so...she had a career to...her customers would be disappointed....was she in danger?...God Danny why did I ever agree to marry you?" Even he had to smirk at the irony of the last statement. At first he had felt so bad for her when he learned about the miscarriage. He had received a special three day pass to go see his ailing wife. He had come home the next day to his wife playing the part. Feet up, a robe on, even some crocodile tears. However, she was either too bored or thought he was too dense to watch her. She moved with ease. Picked things up that no woman who just went through labor, even in a miscarriage could even contemplate. He even caught her trying on a tight fitting leotard, claiming she just wanted to know if it still fit? Fuck yes it fit, there had never been a baby bump because as Danny become increasingly sure, there was never a baby.

She was married now to the Westpoint. He was a man of honor though, and even though he had inklings that she might have strayed, and her conduct out made it clear of her need to be oggled and admired, he had stayed faithful. Faithful despite the fact that their fucking was almost a nonexistent event. Never even thinking of another woman, until, well, this morning. Sure, he knew Jess had the hots for him, she had made no secret, even when she was dating Jimmy, but he had tossed it off as a not so innocent crush, that he never would have acted upon.

Her reaction to his and Sarge's offer though was not what he had expected at all. He had given her the graceful way out, the way to not have to deal with the man who had so clearly crossed the line of propriety. “He’s my partner” she said simply. “That’s reason enough for me. I didn’t take this job just to run at the first hint of trouble...." There was a rigidity to her stance, but also a glimmer in her eye. Maybe he hadn't offended her, maybe she just had the good sense to fall back and not make it any more awkward as they were joined in the room. That was good, because he had crossed a line that he shouldn't have, expressed a desire that should never be acted upon, a need that went beyond vows that even if regretted in hindsight still meant something.

"Jesus, you two may just deserve each other. One harder headed than the other. This modern day chivalry and code is likely to end you both up in body bags sooner rather than later. All I will say is have each other's backs...you two may have trouble finding others who want to ride with you?"

Danny smiled at her, "Partners....yes we are! Okay partner, I still suggest we roll you out of here, a car will get you at the hospital and take you to your house to pack. I will pick you up in an unmarked car in an hour. If you're willing you may need to bring somethings sexy, if you own them. I hate to say it, but we may have to use you as bait. I'm thinking with the way you look, a man might consider doing something really stupid to have you, crossing lines he thought would never be possible." Danny shook his head, he was more sure of that, tan he wanted to admit!

Discoveries

Natalie was relieved when neither of the men argued with her. She couldn't help but crack a smile when Sarge made a comment about them being made for each other because they were both so hard headed. It wasn't the first time that she had been called that in her life. In fact, her family told her that almost every time she talked to them, which wasn't very often anymore because of their opinions of her career.

She suppressed her grin, but she heard the admission of guilt. She had made him feel something, something he shouldn’t have and knew it, but he wanted her to know, she had. She tried to look into his eyes, but he didn’t give in. He had come close to trying to cross a most dangerous line and she understood, as she had been in the same place, ready to throw caution to the wind for a second in those arms, a taste of those lips. So it was scary to head off and deal with a temptation so sweet but so dangerous. The next few days weeks or whatever would be interesting.

Had he really had thought she was going to back out? He would learn eventually that she had more grit than that. The plan that he outlined made sense to her and she agreed to go back and get some things together. Her mind was racing to try and think of what kind of sexy outfits she might have. Bait, but who was she trying to hook? She smiled. Sexy wasn't usually a part of her wardrobe, as Kyle didn't approve of her wearing anything revealing. In fact, the one time that she had bought a pair of stiletto heels, he had thrown such a fit that she had boxed them up and put them in the top of the closet, never to be worn. Most men liked to show off their women, it seemed like Kyle wanted to hide her. Maybe he was threatened by the fact that she was gorgeous and thought that she would stray. But she never had. Even though their sex life was as boring as it came, she held herself to high morals and had never let her standards slip to cheat. As she said the word she looked at Danny, why did she feel such chemistry, why hadn’t she ever felt that before?

Natalie slipped out the back and into the car that was provided for her. She chatted idly with the deputy driving, her optimistic personality shining through. As they drove she kept an eye out the window and on the rear-view mirror but didn’t spot anything suspicious. Moving to the large city was a different experience for her, and she still found the sights to be entertaining at times. As they sat at a red light, she glanced over and saw a couple at a gas station. The woman was pretty in a slutty sort of way, it and was obvious that she was willing to use her body to incur the desire and rewards from men. Natalie watched as the woman leaned in and kissed the greasy, portly man that she was standing with and shamelessly pressed her chest against him. Once their embrace was over, the man pulled out his wallet and handed the woman some money and gave her an appreciative pat on her apparently for sale ass. Judging by the expensive car he was driving, it was obvious why the woman was entertaining him. It was all about the money and the need to be desired.

Natalie refrained from commenting, but inside was gagging. She couldn't imagine what kind of personality or lack of true self respect a woman must have to stoop that low. She shook her head as they drove away.

Once she was safely at her house, Natalie called Kyle. He did not answer his phone, so she left him a voicemail explaining everything. She felt a little guilty doing that, like she was taking the easy way out of explaining it to him. But she didn't feel like listening to him bitch anyway. Hanging up, she went into the closet and began filling a bag with necessities.

Workout gear, comfortable clothes, pajamas, a kimono, underwear of all styles, business attire... She threw a little bit of everything in there. Then she came to the challenge of finding something sexy. She pulled out the one short skirt that she owned, a black leather one. It had been an impulse buy and she had only worn at one time. Kyle had told her she looked like a Hooker that night, and she had buried it in the back of the closet since then. She added a few sexier blouses and tank tops to the bag and then used a stool to climb to the top of the closet where the stilettos were stashed.

As she dug through the boxes, a relatively small black one caught her attention. She wasn't sure what was in it and opened it up. What she saw almost caused her to fall backwards off of the stool in revulsion.

BDSM gear. And a lot of it. Restraints, ball gags, small whips. She had never before seen the stuff. The sight of it caused a pit in her stomach. Disgust rolled through her body, had he intended this for her? Someone else?

Apparently plain, boring, vanilla Kyle had a side she didn’t know about, and made her wonder if she really knew him like she thought? Suddenly getting out of there, going with Danny was even more appealing and she couldn’t move fast enough.

Placing the lid back on the Box with shaking fingers, she put it back where she had found it. Unsure of how to handle the situation, she decided to wait until after this adventure with Danny was over. That would give her time to think on how she wanted to approach the topic with Kyle.

She grabbed the heels and threw them in her bag, just as she heard a knock on the door. Taking a deep breath, she went and opened it, trying to plaster a smile on her face as she looked at Danny. Her mind was racing with what she had just discovered, but she tried her best to hide it. As she watched him walk in, the rest started to fade away. This was a man, and she lost any sense of guilt she might have been harboring.

"I'm almost ready, I just need to grab my toiletries" she told him. With that, she hurried to the bathroom and was back in one minute.

"Ready?" she asked him, her cheeks flushed and eyes bright.

Mistakes Of The Past Meets Opportunities Of The Present

He didn’t look up as he admitted his folly, he had wanted her, felt it with ever fibre of his being. He was honestly both concerned and thrilled that she was coming with. But after his confession he only turned as he heard her walking out. “I’ll get you soon”. Danny kissed Mama good bye and apologized. He had called a friend from high school, Billy McMahon, and Billy owned a plate glass shop. Some calling in of favors and Billy would be there within and hour to replace the eight foot by six foot window. She kissed him, “she is very pretty Danny, and I know you and Brooke, but please be smart, you made a vow once”.

He walked out of the deli with officers on each side, but he keep his eyes peeled anyway. He could see at least three sets of eyes watching their every move. “Sarge, when I leave the precinct we will need to do a divide and conquer”. Sarge nodded, Danny was saying they would have 5 cars leave the precinct garage at once at full speed, three unmarked and two black and whites. The pure fury will take all eyes, and as they looked, Danny would walk out 30 seconds later and take a care for his and Natalie’s use.

Back in the precinct Danny saw Jess , and she signaled him into the small interrogation room. Inside the small room, she quickly closed the distance between them. “Why haven’t you called me Danny?” He felt her hand on his chest, “Jess, I’m sorry, I was dealing with Jimmy’s loss too. How are you?” She batted her eyes, and leaned in and kissed his neck, “What are you doing?” he moved back and controlled. “Listen, I know this is a hard time, but this is not the solution, I promise”. Suddenly she flashed, “Is it that new little cunt…” And now Danny moved fast and grabbed her, he looked into her eyes, she was a storm or hormones, loneliness and her own form of grief. “Listen, I know this has been hell, has been for me too. But you do not refer to Detective Towers like that, understand? Don’t do this Jess, if you need some more time take it, I will give you some of my days….” He grabbed the bag, “….you have to grieve Jess. If you need to talk, I am here, but that is it…” He started to walk out, “…and thanks for the clothes”.

Ten minutes later he was knocking on Natalie’s door. It was time to get started. He walked in and smiled at her. She scampered off to get her toiletries and Danny looked around. It was a nice little place, well kept and clean. There was a wedding photo on and end table and he picked it up. The groom was smiling, the bride was existing. He had seen the fire and excitement that could reside in Natalie’s eyes, why wasn’t it in the picture? He wondered, did she love her husband, was their passion? It really wasn’t any of his business, but a woman like her deserved passion…he smirked, and so did a man like him.

“Ready?” She asked, and he nodded. He was more than ready. He grabbed her bags, a smaller one, and the larger with her clothes. Suddenly his phone buzzed. Shit, he though it was off, but the message was from Brooke. “She seems to have lost her credit card and needs mine, she is headed out of town. We will meet her over at the gas station on “K” street. Brooke was irresponsible, she always would be. Danny found it ironic how much he was looking forward to a break from his marriage, from his wife. When they pulled into the gas station, there she was and as soon as she saw Natalie, her eyes shot open and her nostrils flared. Suddenly she was over and kissing her husband like they were long lost lovers, rather than barely more than strangers in their own bed. He thought he smelled cologne on her of another man, but what good did it to think about that right now. Danny pushed her away, trying not to be rude. Brooke this is Natalie, my new partner. Brooke cocked her brow and looked daggers at Natalie, “Well that is convenient….isn’t it husband?”

Agonizing Decisions

Natalie climbed into the car with Danny and listened as he explained they had to go meet his wife really fast to give her a credit card. She was intrigued to see what his wife looked like. She imagined the woman must be gorgeous to have landed a man like Danny. A man who not only looked like a God, but was protective, passionate, caring, and hard-working. They drove quickly to the street where he was to meet her.

As they pulled up, Natalie stepped out of the car, ready to meet Brooke, and her eyes went to the pretty lady standing before her. Several realizations hit her at once. Brooke was glaring daggers at her, and moved to cling possessively to Danny at once. But that didn’t even faze Natalie. What really struck Natalie was the fact that she had seen this woman before. In fact, she had JUST seen this woman, a little over an hour ago. Clinging to the fat man in the expensive car.

Was it really the same woman? It couldn’t be. But Natalie always picked up on details, and there was no mistaking this. It was the same woman. Same slutty outfit and everything. Natalie’s eyes met Brooke’s, any warmth that was normally in them was gone, their color going from what was normally a soft chocolate color, to a deep brown. How dare this woman sit here and glare at her, acting as if Natalie had done something wrong, when in reality SHE was the one who obviously had no class morals.

Natalie offered her hand to Brooke, because that’s what would be expected of her, but she felt disgust even having to touch the woman. Poor Danny. He couldn’t know, could he? Her mind was racing.

Did she tell him? Keep it to herself? She didn’t know him well yet, but already felt an obligation to him, and felt protective over him. Her mind agonized over the choice. What did she do?!

On The Road Again...

Danny almost turned around and shouted at his wife, "A wife waiting....yes but for who, for a real man or someone who lets you still live in your glory days". But he didn't. Danny had plenty of reason to believe his wife was cheating on him, including the odor of some cologne tinged with a touch of body odor, and the taste of her lips that he had no desire to kiss. Part of him hoped and preyed she was cheating, he didn't lover, probably never had. Infatuated? Yes, Guilty? Of course, he married her to give his child a set of parents. That was so long ago, when he got done with this, he would have a buddy tail her and if so, he would be done, the proverbial bear released from the bear trap.

He was quiet and looking around, if they were being tailed he would have noticed it, felt it, and they were not. Breathing a sigh of relief, he looked over at her and heard her mention Brooke. "You know it almost seemed like you knew her, but I guess she is that transparent. I'm sorry for how she acted, she is desperately trying to recapture something that is long since gone. I just don't want you to think I approve of what she is doing. Iti is just, I was born to try to make a marriage work, no matter how it happened or what it has evolved into. I don't hold any delusions of who she is...but she is my wife. She is my burden, unless..." He stopped himself, it was a little early to discuss his suspicions of his wife's infidelity, and he was even shocked himself by how little he cared.

Instinctively he put his hand on hers, "It looks like we got away free, which means surprise is now on our side. If you don't mind, I don't want to discuss my wife anymore. There are no positive memories there right now for me to enjoy or recount for you. I am happy to talk about anything, but I just ask we put that behind us. We are 10 miles from the safe howse, I think we should go to the supermarket and pick up food that can last us for a week. We need to stay strong, and we may be there a bit. I can cook a bit, spaghetti, eggs, bacon, steaks, chili...are you much of a cook? If not it is okay, but I think we should make out some sort of menu for the week, just in case..."

Extra Workouts

It almost seemed like you knew her…

Had she been that transparent? Normally Natalie’s poker face was pretty good, but she supposed the shock of such a discovery had been enough to throw her off of her game. She wasn’t exactly shocked when Danny admitted that his wife was possibly trying to rekindle their romance which had been long lost. Based on his responses to her behavior, it was obvious that they didn’t have the best relationship ever.

Not that she could judge. Her own relationship hadn’t been all that great to begin with, and after the discovery of Kyle’s dirty little secret in the closet, she wasn’t entirely sure that it wasn’t unraveling at the seams completely.

A warm feeling spread through her hand when she felt Danny place his larger one upon hers. It felt so nice. He didn’t want to talk about his wife, and she honestly didn’t want to talk about her marriage either, so she was perfectly fine with that. Danny suggested a supermarket and asked if she could cook, which made her laugh a little.

“I have learned to fend for myself when it comes to the cooking front” she said. “We had a cook when I was growing up, and my mom was usually so busy planning parties and charity events, that I spent a lot of the time in the kitchen with Ms. Jeanie. She taught me quite a few things… nothing fancy, but I can get by.”

It wasn’t long before they pulled into a local supermarket and they both climbed out of the car. Natalie couldn’t help but glance around, checking out their surroundings, as they walked inside. They grabbed enough things to cook themselves a few meals, some stuff for breakfasts, etc. As they passed the baking aisle, Natalie grinned at Danny.

“We would probably have to add in another 10 workouts to make up for it… but I can bake a meannn apple pie. We might as well enjoy what spare time we do get” she said, as she hurried down the aisle to grab the ingredients. She also grabbed the ingredients to make chocolate chip cookies. People commented often that she ate like a horse, but never gained a pound. She was blessed with a fast metabolism, but she also worked her ass off at the gym quite often.

Looking down at the cart Natalie turned her pretty brown eyes back to Danny. “Whatcha think, good enough?” she asked.

Provisions Secured

Hopping out of the car, it felt oddly right to be shopping with her, like they were a couple, yet had barely met. Danny had never been a big believer in fate, but for no reason specifically, yet deep inside, it felt like his soulmate, a completely crazy thought.

They laughed and joked as they walked through. Steaks, chicken breasts, burgers, dogs, stuff to make chili and spaghetti, eggs bacon, juice milk, the collected their provisions to set up their makeshift house together. He didn't want to admit it but he was quite looking forward to it.

As they got to the baking area, she said words that he had fantasized about hearing from a woman, ones he hadn't heard since he was a boy. "You bake? You know how to make a pie?" His mouth watered and he felt a joy he could barely put into words. Had she said she had bought a suit of scarves that she would slowly strip that night before straddling him and making passionate love, she could not have made him any more excited. Okay, maybe that would have made him more excited, but this was DAMN CLOSE!

"Natalie that sounds so good, I can't tell you. You have to be careful, talk like that and you will absolutely steal my heart!" He laughed and winked at her, not admitting, even to himself, how prophetic those words might be. He went and grabbed a few bottles of wine, a couple of cases of water, and another of beer. "It's not like we are on watch, it might be nice to relax and enjoy ourselves a bit". They up and at the register Danny suddenly grabbed two six packs of 7 Up, complete with a single red circle against the green background. "I have a plan for these, a little exercise I would like to do with your tomorrow". He saw the skepticism in her eyes, and smiled, "You'll see, I think you will find it fun!"

“...talk like that and you will absolutely steal my heart!”

Natalie would never admit, even to herself, how happy those simple words made her feel. It was silly, really. It must just be a sexual tension. He was just her partner, nothing more. They were both married. Although it seemed that neither of them were completely happy in their situations, they had both taken vows and they both held themselves to high standards. This was just the beginning of a good friendship, no matter how much her body seemed to be yearning for more.

She watched, grinning, as Danny picked up wine, beer, and 7 Up. The 7 Up confused her but he wouldn’t tell her why he was buying it. With a playful roll of her eyes she gestured towards the cash registers. A few minutes later they were headed out the door with their cart full. They worked as a team to transfer it all to the car, and Natalie was more aware than she chose to admit every time their hands or arms would accidentally brush against each other. She couldn’t seem to turn off her awareness to him.

Climbing back into the car, they headed the last few miles to the safe house. It was an unassuming little house. Nothing flashy or unique about it. Exactly the kind of house to blend in. Natalie helped Danny carry some groceries in and they unloaded before really checking the place out. It didn’t take long... it was a small place. Only one bedroom, Natalie noticed. She wondered how that would work out.

“Well, this is cozy!” she said with a grin as they finally finished putting things away, their clothes included.

“So what’s next, partner?”
