Closed for Always Faithful
"Ms. Doyle, do come in." The lanky gentleman stepped aside and beckoned Katherine inside. His office featured a large wooden desk in one corner notable for its absence of knickknacks or clutter. Rather than the client's chairs in front of the desk, he gestured towards the sitting area near the window. A chaise lounge sat opposite a pair of well-cushioned high-backed chairs. He gestured for her to take a seat in one as he did the other.
"So good to put a face with the name," he smiled. "I am Dr. Simon Idris." The slight hint of crow's feet around his sapphire blue eyes betrayed his age as he smiled. Otherwise the sandy blond doctor moved with the lean grace of a college athlete.
He held up a hand before she could respond. "If you'll permit me, Ms. Doyle, I believe I can speed things along and answer many of the questions you have if I speak first."
"No doubt you're wondering why exactly Dr. Bonilla recommended you come to see me after your latest psychological exam. As she no doubt told you, she didn't question your mental fitness for duty, but she thought that you might benefit from seeing me. I apologize for the cryptic nature, but I operate a special practice wherein discretion is paramount. Dr. Bonilla was merely reflecting that need for privacy."
Idris picked up a manilla folder and opened it. "I have reviewed your file and I suspect Dr. Bonilla was right to refer you to me. You're 29 and female, yet you already head up a team of your own in what remains a male-dominated field. You are respected by subordinates and superiors alike. Professionally, your future looks very bright."
Simon flipped a few pages. "Your personal life, however, is less fulfilling. You have friends, to be sure, but more intimate relationships remain a void. You haven't had a long term partner for years and date only sporadically. Though you blame it on your busy career, the truth is that you haven't really enjoyed sex -- at least not for some time. It's not lack of libido -- you report a more than healthy appetite -- but rather difficulty in achieving the physical and emotional release. A difficulty that's been increasing as you achieve higher levels of command at work."
Idris closed the file. "Dr. Bonilla is concerned that this personal difficulty -- while not a professional problem now -- is interfering with your enjoyment of life and could become more serious with time. I agree. However, I already have a working theory as to the source of your difficulties."
"Your position is demanding. Your decisions affect the lives and safety of the men and women under your command. They look to you for confidence and authority. And so that's what you provide."
Simon steepled his fingers under your chin. "I suspect you carry that approach into the bedroom. You are confident and assertive with lovers as well. But you ultimately find orgasm difficult and unfulfilling."
"It's because that's not who you are. Not in that setting. On the job, you're in command. But sexually, you want to be the one commanded. Think about it. In the encounters where you found the most satisfaction, you ceded more control to your partner than usual, didn't you? You let him or her take charge and you felt a certain liberation in yielding to them, didn't you?"
