I've been lurking the last couple of weeks, and just thought that now would be a fine time to introduce myself (you know - while I'm still a little bit tipsy ;) )...

I'm a Male from Maryland, USA - 22 yoa - interested in writing erotica... I have two projects in the works right now, both BDSM, but I'm not limiting myself to just that... I plan on uploading my first chapter (of which story - I haven't decided) in a couple of weeks.

I would love to hear any and all advice concerning sharing your first stories with this community... and I'm also interested in any authors who would like to do some mutual editing... I'm a fairly good student of the english language, but it always helps to have someone else look it over for mistakes.

Thanks in advance for having me around...

Welcome, Black Bird. You have joined the ranks of perhaps the most varied group of authors in the world.

Advice on sharing your first stories?

Expect that you may appear on the top lists with good scores and then get hit with some ones. That seems to happen often, and no one has a verifiable reason why.

Don't be too offended if everyone doesn't like it. There may be instances where people will feel inclined to give public feedback regarding your story on the bulletin board. Just remind yourself that your writing will not be everyone's cup of tea.

As I said, you will find a wide variety of writers here at Literotica. Some are just interested in having fun and posting their stuff for the thrill of it. Others are striving to be the best writers they can be, even if it's "smut." And the rest are somewhere in between. So, find your niche and try to remember that not everyone has the same goals for their writing as you do. (I need to remember that myself.)

I'd also advise you not to take too much stock in the voting. You never know what criteria people are using to vote. Some people vote high if they get off on a story. Others vote low if the grammar is bad. Still others vote based on the morality of the actions that occur in the story. Focus more on the written feedback you get, and your own intrinsic satisfaction.

As a "fairly good student of the English language," you'll probably already be careful about your mechanics. That is a good thing. There are plenty of readers out there who can overlook errors and not let it affect their enjoyment of a story. But there are also many who don't like the repeated disturbance of spelling mistakes or grammar gaffes. Do your best to make your story perfect as far as mechanics are concerned and you won't alienate the ones who appreciate proper use of the language.

That's all my advice. Hope it helps. :)

Thanks for the welcome - and thanks for the advice. I'll be sending in the prelude to my first story fairly shortly now... most likely tonight. I know that there is a *bit* of a debate concerning what is proper netiquette when it comes to advertising stories - so I'm treading lightly in that regard. I don't think a blurb and a link confined to one thread would be too much, do you?

My main goal is to entertain myself - not only in writing these stories, but also in seeing what kind of response they recieve. I know I can't please everybody... then again, it might be just as interesting to write with the intent of *displeasing* as many people as possible... ;) But I have to learn who the curmudgeons are, and what tweeks their nerves first...

Anyway - back to writing and reading. See you around.

:) Welcome!

As far as what to expect? You will get people who love it and people who hate it. There will be people who react to the content badly and behave as if you're a serial killer for posting it. There will be people who will equate their own BDSM experiences with what you've written and judge you well or poorly because of it. There will be people who will nitpick everything you've said and tell you that the story was great, but you misspelled the ninth word in the eighth sentence in the seventh paragraph.

In short, you'll hear from a wide variety of people who have a lot to say about what you've written. Most of it good, some of it critical but constructive, and some of it just negative.

Don't let any of it get you down or get your head swelled.

Whatever you do, enjoy every moment of it. That's the best part.

Thanks hon... As I write this, I'm waiting for the first part of my first story to be accepted - I'm really trying to be patient, but alas... patience isn't one of my better virtues.

Concerning inflatable Egos - You are FAR too late to save me! ;) But I'll try to keep in under control, as I have a small mouth, and a large foot - and its oh so hard to dislodge the two.

Good start!

Cute comments.

You know I will help with your editing, but you can always look for one of the volunteer editors to help.

:)

I look forward to seeing the next bits of both your stories

;)
