No, not about who will win, BUT about what the winner will proclaim.

I predict that no matter which of the two main candidates win this election, Bush or Gore, the winner will proclaim that his ascension to the presidency was either a 'mandate for change' or a 'vote of confidence' to stay the course. Once again the winner will ignore the obvious, that Americans by and large are disgusted with our choices for president and are voting for the lesser of two evils, but they will proclaim very proudly that the American people have spoken with their vote and call it either a 'mandate' or a 'vote of confidence', or some variation thereof.

Any other ideas about what political rhetoric the eventual winner will claim for their victory? .....an old worn out phrase..a cliche...anything that indicates how out of touch with reality our politicians really are.

Please do not make this a thread about who you will vote for or think will win. You can start your own thread for that. Thank you.

My prediction for what it's worth...

And I will have to say now, it's not worth a lot.

No matter who wins the US of A presidential election.

The government stays in power. with a few changes at the top.

The winner will also say how good it was to take part in such a clean fight and they wish the loser well, LMAO.

Sorry for not being to the point, but what do you expect from the right side of the pond.

I think one phrase that will be thrown out a lot by the winner will be:

"The American people have spoken."

I agree with ya MM, they will ignore the obvious and claim a great victory, even though the likely winner will probably get less than a 52% majority vote.

Excellent!!

Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

CB, yours is particularly to the point. I had forgotten that one.

DAMN - you beat me to it! I thought of the phrase first, and then started to read the rest of the thread to see if anyone else had already used it before me. This is the one they ALWAYS say. Now I'll have to keep thinking....

remember, he's not won till the Electoral College meets. If they vote in contrast to the polls there may be a problem.

??? The electoral college is a formality- each state will vote according to the poll there. Or did you mean that the Pres could lose the popular vote and still win the election? That is true, but we'd know already way before the college makes it official.

No, if an elector can vote against the popular vote-

Nevada's Elector can't. Not if he wants to stay out of jail. Ours are legally mandated to vote the poular will.

How about....

It's time for us all to come together as ONE?

The words "great moral victory" are bound to show up in some winning politician's speech. If not president, then some other lower-level winning candidate.

Ever see the movie Liar Liar starring Jim Carey? He has to tell the truth, he can't help it.

Wonder what the winning politicians would say if they HAD to speak the truth.

"Thanks for voting for me, suckers. Now you can all go to hell!"

Or something similar.

No matter who wins.....

and regardless of what is spoken openly by the winner....

The winner will be thinking - "fucking fools, they feed the beast once again."

Raise the economic standards

Honored for your vote of confidence

pledge to uphold the trust of the people

We could use a Lincoln right now. So if they can make him appear, be my guest.
oh, I know what you meant. Teasing.

How about:

"the less fortunate" substituted for "those of you feeding at the public trough" it just sounds nicer.

"those who have won life's lotto" evil slang for the rich.

"perscription drugs for seniors" so that they won't have to spend their own money for their own medicine. That money is better spent on vacations, cars, house in Fl., etc.

"the first thing I intend to do" REAL popular with Gore right now, cept he's changed the "first thing" to fit whichever group he's talking to.

"I'll fight BIG BUSINESS and the wealthy to give YOU the tax break you deserve" also known as income redistribution. And once the gov. breaks big business, WHO will we work for? Any one here ever work for the poor? What is the benefit package? Free fish sticks on FRI?

"Four more years of prosperity"

"A bridge to the 21st century"

"A uniter, not a divider"

Vlad

I think "new millennium" will rear its ugly head at least 5 times in either candidate's acceptance speech, spoken like they will have a profound effect on the next 1000 years.
