When Manu and I started the site a year ago, we had no idea it would grow so big so fast... Lately, as many of you know, our story backlog has grown, and it has taken longer and longer for your stories to be posted.

Manu and I sincerely apologize for this. We are very grateful that you allow us to share your work with our readers, and hate the fact that we've been unable to get them up sooner. It's extremely disrespectful to your talents, time, and efforts.

We feel badly about this - so badly, in fact, that we have both taken the next week off from our "real" jobs to do nothing but edit and post stories and answer email. Hopefully, by the week's end, we will be up to date, and will be able to stay on top of the load from then on.

Again, sorry for the delay - the situation is temporary, and we hope you will be pleasantly surprised with our response time once we are caught up.

You guys are the best!!! But if you need help doing a few things, I'm sure there are plenty of members who would be willing to help. Now, if I lived closer, I would offer my services. You should think about getting someone to read e-mail or edit or whatever....

Just a few thoughts

Thanks sammyjo... We've tried the volunteer editor thing before and it's been disastrous. The only real way to do it is to pay whoever helps you and right now that's not something we can afford to do. We are dead-set on keeping Literotica free forever (or as long as we're here

), which means we have to keep our costs down. Hopefully, just concentrating on the site this week will alleviate the backlog and get us on track.

I'd be happy to help edit stories for you guys. I would restrict myself to editing only for grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I know that the "purity" of the story as meant by the author is important to you. Authors would get the edited copy back, which they could then re-submit. No charge. Think it over.

We could try it on a temporary basis.

I agree with whispersecret. I humbly volunteer my services (in whatever way they might be needed.... hmmn... I should be careful with what I say, eh?) to this website. If you require anyone to edit stories, or whatever, let me know. I'm happy to help.

After all, I submit my stories here because I thought this was a great site. And then I invited a whole bunch of friends to visit this site and they in turn are posting stories. So I feel partially responsible for the backlog.

And since my stories are posted here, and since I post on the bulletin board, etc, I have a vested interest in this site. So Laurel and Manu, please don't be surprised if others here share your vision and want to contribute, even if you started it.

You are doing a magnificent job and I commend you for your dilligence at making this such a great site!

K

Amen.

I'll also volunteer my services for editing and proofreading.

I think basically what were looking at is the author emailing a story to one of the volunteers, having the proofread copy emailed back to the author, and then submitted to the site by the author.

I would even refrain from making negative comments about stories with 14" penises and 38DD breasts.

Maybe, Laurel, you might want to put together a list of Volunteer Editors and their email addresses. I'm thinking that first the author would want to contact the Volunteer to make sure they are available at that time to do the proofreading. For me, week nights are a pain in the ass, because I do have a real job. But I've got time on weekends to look at a couple stories. And that's the key. If all of a sudden I get 30 stories in my mail box, that's not gonna work.

Anyways, its an idea. And I think many of us would be willing to help out.

Hey now....what's wrong to references of 38DD breasts? I realize you have yet to see these magnificent beauties, but you have to believe me, I'm being totally honest!!

*begging, pleading*

Oh no, better watch that begging...

Lasher, I will be finding myself in PA within the year, let's meet, and I'll show you up close and personal...heehee

LOL..sorry, Sammyjo. I meant the stories with the 6ft tall blondes who way 105lbs and have 38DD breasts and 20 inch waists. I was just too lazy to write all that.

You can bring them by as long as ya understand my wife gets to see them too...

That's what I thought you meant!!!
Your wife is more than welcome to see them, too...in fact, that might actually be a total turn on for that guy I'm going to see...he'd love it!!

Whispersecret and Lasher - you've both hit upon a brilliant idea! Many people have nowhere to go for help with their stories (who's gonna sk their coworker to read over their rape fantasy?), and I simply can't give each and every story the attention it deserves...

I'll post a list of volunteer editors on the site, and all authors can come to you with their stories. That would be fucking amazing!

If you're really interested in being a volunteer editor, email me your name and the email address at which you want authors in need to contact you. You guys are awesome - I think many authors will be stoked by this...

I hesitate to mention this since I'm fairly new here, but might I suggest that if authors are using a Volunteer Editor, they at least run the story through a spellchecker FIRST?

Just seems like common courtesy to me. As a former magazine editor, I can't tell you how many manuscripts I've received where the so-called professional didn't even bother....

Another thing I just now thought of... If you are interested in having your name included on our list of volunteer editors, and there's a certain genre (or two or three) that you really get into and thus feel you are more qualified to read and edit, let me know! For example, if you're into bdsm, an author writing a bdsm story would gain more from your editing than from someone without knowledge of the fetish. Or if you enjoy nonconsent stories, you'll be a better editor of that genre because you know what makes them work/not work...

In fact, this might be a better idea (though it may not be - you can tell me to shut up.. hehe)... You can send me a BRIEF paragraph (2-5 sentences) about what you like, erotic fiction-wise... When an author in need of editing comes to the Volunteer Editor section, he/she will be confronted with a list of names and email addresses. If each has a short "mini-bio" next to the name, the author would be better able to direct his story to where it will get the help it needs...

Let me know if this is pure poo... ")

It was just suggested to me that a list of story topics you are NOT willing to edit is a better idea.. So, here we go:

If you like (remember, this is optional), you potential volunteers should send me a list of your three or four favorite topics, and a list (if any) of subjects you do not feel comfortable editing... That way, you're not getting a pile of foot stories in your face (figuratively speaking) if the idea grosses you out...

Now this thread was a jem of a find!
I like seeing what Lit was like back then and it gives us insight into how its grown since.

Hi Laurel!

Nothing to apologise for - this is a free site. Only if we all paid lots of money would I expect to have a story posted within 24 hours or somthing.

But could someone please explain to [dopey] me what the difference is between the volunteer editor and what is already offered on this site? I've missed something somewhere :D

The date: look in the bottom left hand corner of Laurel's post ;)

Do I get a capital 'L' for that one? :D

Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. At least you didn't supply an answer to a four year old question in the fashion of our favourite Pollster. ;)

I'm already a volunteer editor, but I'd be happy to proof read new stories too if you guys need an extra set of eyes

OMG who the hell dragged up this old thread?

I just read the date of Laurel's post lol

Damn

Thanks Laurel & Manu. For a place to post my work where I know the site respects what I put into them.

***OLD THREAD ALERT***

Perhaps, if we do feel the urge to bump old threads, in the bumping post we should add something like the above. That way, hopefully people will notice it, and then not feel so silly when they reply, thinking the question/query/comment/ had just been made. ;)
