This is a thread for C G Raven and Funloving62
Victorian society is remembered for the strait lace Queen Victoria, her love of Prince Albert, and what have come to be known as Victorian morals. Yet the reality of the period is found more in the works of Charles Dickens. It shows a society that was hypocritical, saying one thing in public and quite another in private. True it was a period of science, discovery, and exploration. Yet it was also a time of crushing poverty, Transportation to Bounty man’s land for the most miner of offences, a period of debtors prison until one could pay there debt, or have them paid, by love ones, better off than they. Our story revolves a round such a case. Samantha Roberts the daughter of a once successful merchant who traveled in the highest circles luck has turned and he is languishing in debtor’s prison. His only hope is his daughter, who is now forced to seek employment as a governess.
Lord Peter Cushing was a man of substance and years; at 54 he still cuts a fine figure, and is a powerful man physically still riding to the hounds every weekend His son had left him with an small son, while he pursued an Army career in India, preferring adventure to father hood. Willy’s mother had died in child birth. She had been a frail little thing at best.
Lord Peter was reading his morning post.
Dear Peter,
I have come across a very pretty little thing that is quite a desperate situation, and knowing your pension for innocent young damsels and your need to have some one to care for young Willy I have provided her with a letter of introduction. Her name is Miss Samantha Roberts. I am sure you will find her quite to your liking and I am sure you will also give her a worldly education.
As Always your friend.
Lord Vincent Stanhope.
If what Vincent said was true I would look forward to meeting miss Samantha Roberts
