This story is centered around a maiden named Shirley who, tired of boring village life and the dull, banal man her parents have found for her, decides to go off adventuring. As she has seen her eighteenth birthday come and go, her merchant parents are keen to see her married off.
In embarking on her adventure, she ignores the warnings she has often heard about what a dangerous place the outside world is, with its monsters and barbarians and other foul denizens. Alas, young Shirley soon discovers that the warnings and stories she heard are firmly rooted in truth! The world is indeed a dangerous place, with all manner of human and humanoid brutes who will gladly help themselves to Shirley.
So this thread is open to anyone wishing to play one or more of the denizens Shirley encounters. I'm looking for evil humans or humanoids. I have few limits. My only real turn-offs are vampires and tentacle-monsters...humans, orcs, ogres, gnolls, lizard-men, etc. are all fine. Note that I am looking for at least some plot, and interaction between Shirley and your character(s) that goes beyond sex.
I am also looking for at least decent writing partners who understand concepts like describing characters, settings, plot, pacing, the difference between writing prose and texting buddies, keeping typos and grammar lapses to a reasonable level, and not posting for characters other than your own. I'm not looking for "Grog d barbarian charges out the underbrush, tears ur cloths off, and fucks u real hard n fast." (Not trying to be a bitch here, but I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.)
The story:
Shirley awakened even before the cock's crow. Thin, pale light was draped across the East, heralding the coming day. The young maiden had an appointment at noon to be formally betrothed to Cladius, a young nobleman.
It was an appointment Shirley had no inention of keeping.
It wasn't that Cladius was a bad man. She understood why her parents had arranged the marriage. Claudius came from a respected family. Not an exceptionally wealthy one, no, but a decently prosperous one nonetheless, and impeccably free of even a hint of scandal.
And that was the problem...or a good piece of it.
Shirley knew that the moment the vows were exchanged, she would lose all independence. She would be a nobleman's wife. Nothing more. An ornament to his home. She could never go on an adventure and see the world...no, wives did not do such things!
But Shirley did--or wanted to.
So as dawn's light gathered, Shirley slipped out of the house, backpack on her, the sword she secretly practiced with at her side, bow slung over her back. The woods were only about fifteen minutes away...and just as the first rays of the morning sun peaked over the distant mountains, Shirley had gone beyond the last fields and into the forest itself.
The maiden did not stop there. The excitement of freedom was too heady for her to slow down...and she also knew that in about half an hour her parents would find her missing. They would surely mount a search of the village and its environs. She aimed to be free and clear before any real effort got organized to find her.
She would return, someday...but only on her terms. Once she had made her fortune as an adventurer, no one would be able to put the yoke of "noble's wife" around her neck.
By midday, though, Shirley began to slow down. She was well beyond the surroundings of the village, in the forest itself. It was beautiful. The wind sighed through the tall trees, and the chirping of birds was everywhere. She figured she would rest for a half-hour or so. Sitting on a rock, she unlimbered her backpack and took out her waterskin and a strip of beef...
