So I'll be there the first weekend of December, any suggestions for clubs, bearing in mind I will be on my own?

I got nothing but I'd love to go there too!

Have a GREAT time!

well I'm conferencing, but I am there saturday night, so I'm hoping to have a bit of fun. apparently SomePlace is the place to be seen, but it has a steampunk dress code.

I've been to Amsterdam once, but I didn't do any clubbing, or any scene-things, unfortunately. I spent the majority of the time in coffee shops and then wondering around in between coffee shops. It was great fun :)

I went there on my honeymoon. Lost my favourite knickers in the hotel de philosophers. Not likely to be going to any coffee shops.

Have been to SomePlace a couple of times, though not for a couple of years. Not sure about a dress code...when we were there last most were dressed fairly normal for walking on the street, with a couple of male sub types naked. Some people did have sex on the mini stage they have in a corner, but for the most it just seemed to be clublike with a BDSM bent for those wishing to display it. Definately didn't see any flogging etc., or overt SM or D/s behaviour. Have lived here 8 years and have yet to set foot in a coffee shop, but then that is probably because it isn't really our thing. Do enjoy the freedom and mood of the Red Light District though.

Oh, also be careful of the food or you might go home a few kilos heavier...delicious pancakes, gorgeous frites (fries...I have mine without mayo, but with a side serve of mayo they can be yum too), excellent creamy desserts, lots of chocolate which is so cheap it is difficult to not succumb to temptation more than is healthy....there are also some good steak places and traditional english pub food.

I must have been to Amsterdam a couple of dozen times at least.

I could tell you all the best coffee shops and all the best Indonesian restaurants, and how to look after yourself in the Red Light district, but I can't help you with what you are asking for, I'm afraid.

Anything else, feel free to PM me.

It gets COLD there in winter - noticeably colder than the UK. So wrap up and, if you have a vaguely wind-proof coat, definitely take that.

Thank you!

I spent my honeymoon there and recall the awful food. my friend has just come back and she said there are loads of food places thanks to the immigration so I'm not too worried about living on chips and mayo this time around. I eat about a 100 g of chocolate a day anyway, so the choco-temptation is more sustenance for me

I doubt I'll venture into the red light district due to time, though before it was in yer face but it felt very safe. has it changed much now?

I looked at the site for SomePlace and it says it is a strict dress code. just not sure how strict is strict.

I don't find it intimidating in any way, more fun. That being said, you do need to keep your hand on your bag, and like in most places these days, be aware of what is happening around you. Nearly everytime I go into Amsterdam, I end up passing through the RLD at the least as it is so central and on the way to other places. I love it at night the best though...just no place like it.:)

The dress code thing of SamePlace might be for particular nights where they want everyone to fit the theme of the night. Different nights have different purposes for the club. For example, if they have a Rubber Fetish night, it might be that everyone is expected to dress to code...might be worth emailing them to check what is going to be on during your visit and what to expect. Unfortunately, we never stay for long as F has an allergic reaction to something there and ends up barely able to breath after an hour or 2.

ahhh yes, I suppose I'm kinda lax about keeping hold of my belongings, living here (I get phone calls to tell me I left my wallet in the shop, AGAIN!). I'll probably dispense with a bag altogether for this reason.

the saturday night I'm there (or is it friday?) SamePlace have a steampunk night with a dress code. It wasn't clear from the website if they are open every night or just on the event nights, so I will email them. Bad news about the allergic reaction (unless you really like extreme breath play?) could it be a latex allergy?
