Thread starting happy today I am but anyway ....... So I figured a thread here with some advice on tips and tricks for taking pics for us Amateurs might be a good thing.

I'll kick it off with the tip of take many, post few. That in a sense of you don't have to post every pic you take, alot of the time pics just don't work like you hope. Take many, post the best.

Anyone else care to share their wisdom and experience with others?

My suggestion is: Just in case of nosey neighbors friends (college professors) or if you don't want strangers calling you up. Weigh the issue of posting pictures of your face.

I don't know if this is a tip or a trick or a pet peeve. But clean up the background or think about what else is visible in the pic your taking / posting. Seeing things like kids toys or piles of dirty laundry in the background can't be a great thing.

I'll give a tip. :)

Try experimenting with lights and the flash. Most digital cameras have several kinds of flash, several modes, etc. Sometimes it works better if you turn on a lamp next to you rather than the overhead light. Sometimes it's better with a good flash and the lights completely off (yes, even at night, the flash is usually bright enough to light up the entire room).

That and experiment with different colors, like the Sepia mode (I think I spelled that right) and with black-and-white. Some pictures make fantastic results with black and white. :)

Another tip is to watch angles...Some are very harsh, while others can be very erotic....upshots vs down shots vs straight-on shots....Angles...very important for getting "moods" in pics set...along with lighting, backgrounds, etc.

BINGO..

Cobwebs, ladies check your nails, chipped or dirty isn't erotic either, bandaids, etc

OK ........

I love the cropping tool..... :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana:

A Tip for prospective pic posters ... if you can, get ahold of some editing software. Learn how to use it. Sometimes adjusting contrast / brightness and a bit of colour can make a world of difference. It will also help you resize your pics that fit Lits guidelines and make it easier for you to post them as attachments.

Wow!!! Some great tips and tricks already!! I already use most of them, especially the shoot many, use few. But I crop what I can of the background, and/or use some sort of PS effect to minimize the background noise. I hope to see more tips as I'm sure there are MANY I do not know about.

Also, I think that it should be added that if there is an issue with taking pics one might want help with, to post it here... I'm sure everyone would love to help out a fellow Litster.

as far as difficulty taking the pictures it helps if you have a trusted friend to take them for you. Or else exsperiment with the timer on your camera

My suggestion is: Just in case of nosey neighbors friends (college professors) or if you don't want strangers calling you up. Weigh the issue of posting pictures of your face.

If being recognized is a concern -- or you're just shy -- in addition to your face, also think about your tattoo (if it and/or its location are unique) or anything else, including the background, that might tip someone off.

Cobwebs, ladies check your nails, chipped or dirty isn't erotic either, bandaids, etc

God, from your lips to the porno directors' ears! I can't stand when I'm watching porn and a freakin' bandaid shows up on someone's finger! I'm too distracted by the bandaid to be aroused by what's going on.

As for tips ...

Take some time looking at yourself in the mirror to figure out what views/positions you like. Because if you don't like the picture, you're not likely to post it. And even if you do post it, you probably won't be comfortable with it.

If you're not sure what the people looking at your pics want to see -ask. You don't have to take up all their suggestions, but if you're not sure where to start/what to do next, this might be helpful :)

i would like to throw this in there:

play around with angles, some of the most odd and uneven angles turn out great pics
