Hippies still trying to ruin the country

America won't win another war until the 1960s flower children are pushing up petunias.

Radicalized, the flower children morphed into lefty loonies who now masquerade as social progressives. No matter what they rename themselves, however, their agenda hasn't changed.

They still want utopia, and it wouldn't be worth mentioning except that their naivete has aged into a persistent denial of reality that may have devastating consequences.

For example, consider their continued belief that America's armed forces are neo-Nazi stormtroopers who delight in burning babies to further the aims of imperialistic corporations.

Such nonsense, now treated as legitimate by the left-leaning media, denigrates the patriotic values and sincerity of half the nation. It undermines the war effort, insults the dead and the survivors of battle and their families, and supports the aims of the enemy. Translated into immigration or national defense policy, it is an invitation to the world to destroy our country.

Yet, this Vietnam-era idee fixe about the military, despite 40-plus years of proof to the contrary, is understandable when analyzed in the context of the flower children's religious zealotry.

To renounce their military fictions would mean facing bigger, more important truths: Marxism doesn't work. Love is not all you need. Western culture is worth defending because it protects freedom, tolerance and the greatest material good for the greatest number. Government can't solve every problem. The American taxpayer has no obligation to support the rest of the world's exploding population.

Without the military-industrial complex to blame for humanity's ills, the lefty loonies lose their basis for faith in a socialist utopia. Terrorism is tortuous for them only because it forces them to pursue the political goals that will allow them to redistribute America's wealth by pulling the nation together and relying on the hated military for protection.

Oh, the unfairness of irony.

Thus, lefty loonies deny that terrorists have declared war on America, while insisting that we can win the war through negotiation. They seem to believe the terrorists will spare them because they are nice.

The truth is that there is no way out of our modern warfare dilemmas.

Is it possible to protect non-combatants, given modern weaponry in total war?

Are people who make weapons innocent citizens of their warring governments, or integral non-uniformed soldiers and legitimate targets?

Must we surrender our country to our enemies because our weapons are too terrible to use?

Whose life is more important: the 12-year-old Iraqi firing an Uzi or a soldier from Kentucky?

Which is more sacred: a mosque hiding a weapons cache or a plane of tourists?

Do we want a military strong enough to protect our homeland? Are we willing to pay the price of survival?

It's crucial that we come to terms with war questions because we will have war with Iran and North Korea. It will come down to their children or ours, their soldiers or ours, their countries or ours.

For aging hippies, it's easier to keep blaming old enemies than to confront new ones, especially the young and ruthless. Hating a military-industrial complex is safer and less tiring. It's less complicated -- and less dangerous.

Abstract institutions neither bleed nor shoot back. Demonstrations, marches and sign-carrying don't accomplish much these days, but they are a lot more fun and allow the fiction of activist moral superiority to persist.

Their BAWL (Buddha-Allah-Wicca-Lenin) is better than some old Judeo-Christian God.

In their heart of hearts, lefty loonies do want America to lose in Iraq and every military theater. They want outside enemies to accomplish quickly the demolition of American capitalism, using the violence the lefty loonies are too old, too scared and too well-invested to use.

After all, lefty loonies want their social justice and their pensions, too.

Luckily, no one lives forever. Luckily, there is Generation Jones to take up their slack. America is too great to go down without a fight.

Yet, please be compassionate toward aging, albeit dangerous, erstwhile flower folks. Understand their pain when communism failed. Understand their desire to enforce perfect harmony. Understand their insistence that we love humanity except those in uniforms.

Just don't vote for them in 2008.

The funny thing is, we still love ya.

Oh Happy Fun Ball your delightful tomfoolery puts a spring in our step and a bounce in our britches.

But on a serious note, it is an interesting observation. Years back, Colly commented that we view war much like a sporting match and that our rationales for losing work much like those of a sport's team after losing a big game. The rationales cover everything to "we didn't put enough into it" to "the other team had their A Game" or were otherwise luckier than them and everything in between but no coach who values his job will state "we lost because we are worse players than everyone else" or because the other team was simply better.

The thing is our losses and ties in wars (we've won very few wars in the many we've fought since World War 2 and in those the odds were stacked quite favorably for us and we knew when to stop) are not from being "worse". We have weaponry and technology levels of magnitude above anything anyone else has. Our army is the single largest in the world. Our men are generally fairly competent. Overall we are the most jingoistic nation on the planet currently with even al-queda putting faith before calls of "Pakistan! Pakistan! Pak-i-stan!".

So why do we keep losing and tying? We need a scapegoat and that scapegoat has been those members of the public who don't support the war du jour (probably because they have working memories). It was started in Vietnam (the first true loss) and became gospel in the 80s. We lost, the story goes, not because we were unable to defeat a determined enemy in their home terrain, but because some people didn't like the war and because we didn't send all the possible kids we could have into the fray. Considering the vast stores of our youth were sent to die in staggering numbers and escalating hadn't worked, a united front and more troops would have saved us all.

It seems to have soothed the egos of our hawks and so they blame again. It is interesting that they can believe this that somehow our troops shielded from all information of home other than the heavily censored letters of their families at home are somehow cripplingly affected by us not being 100% united in fascist lockstep. If 90% cheer but 10% say nay then those 10% are keeping us from glorious victory.

Is it the bruised egos and rationales of people who run from any and all signs of personal responsibility? E.g. We're losing wars because people are protesting them, my marriage is failing because gays want to marry, i'm an alcoholic because women are keeping men down.

Or is it rather the careful manipulation of these cowardly people? People who want people hating gays, keeping down women, and supporting fascism at home to have solidarity for our troops, telling people how to shift aside all their painful introspection for purposes of their own. Purposes which of course call for greater consolidation of power, greater consolidation specifically to them.

In other words, are Republicans making these arguments because their cowards or because they are moronic fascist-supporters?

We do?

Oh! Yeah, um, sure, of course we do.

True misogynists are so rarely observed in their native habitat.

Well, I have a feeling it will go over about as well as O.J.'s tome, sorry to say.

I do hope you won't use so many ellipses?

Ahhh...welcome back the Lucifer of old....yay!

and as usual, much adieu about nothing...

Either Luc is too young to have a clue, too immersed in faith and dogma to care, or like Pure the Rodeo Clown...just a propagandist...it doesn't matter which, nor do I care...however...(doncha just luv the elipses?)

But for the rest of the rational world that understands...

I personally would not have wagered a plug nickel during the 50's, 60's and 70's on the future of the human race even seeing a new century arrive.

The conflicts the United States has been involved in since the end of world war two, have essentially been wars of containment...containment of international communism that took hold and threatened world domination with the collapse of the old order or European powers.

How we dodged the 'Nuclear Bullet', I still don't believe and it began before MacArthur and Red China as contingency plans were recieving the midnight oil treatment for an assault on the Soviet Bloc as it swallowed Eastern Europe.

Those were dreadfully trying times for those who honor human freedom and dignity in a darkening world.

History will note how America restrained the use of those weapons and over almost a half century, contained the threat until is collapsed from internal corruption.

At the end of ww2 there were perhaps 20 democracies in the entire world, now there are more than 120. Not all perfect and some will not last, but it is to the honor and courage of the United States and our foreign and military policies over the past half century that has at least held the evil in check.

For the twit down under who accuses of arrogance, you are just wrong, nothing more, nothing less, just wrong about the country in general and me specifically.

The left wing apologists and appeasers, America haters and Bush haters, along with the diehard hippy Nixon and Reagan haters...are always with us...it is a cross be bear willingly, even protecting their rights of free expression of their thoughts on forums such as this.

Ask every person in every other country in the world, if they had a choice of where to live for the rest of their lives?

You already know the answer.

Yeah, Goldi, I know, cracks you up everytime....but I did notice you did not answer the question...?

amicus...

Ami?

I'd live in England.

Oops, wait, I already do.

Edited to add:

Before you ask why, I'll tell you. Free healthcare, leagalise same sex marriage, a political system that, while draconian in some respects, is a liiiiiittle bit easier to understand (and therefore work with or against) than America's, and, the most important:

Our reduced ego when it comes to our status in the world. Yes, we have an overinflated opinion of ourselves, politically, but not to the extent we could destroy it in the way the US could.

Also - China doesn't own us via unpaid debt. Well. Not as much.

Okay, my bad. I should have phrased the question otherwise.

I have not googled this, but heard a reference somewhere or another during the hot and heavy immigration debate concerning Mexico and Central America. It was stated that millions of people all around the world who have applied for legal citizenship in the US are hindered by the illegal immigration across US borders. The reference also added that the United States was the final destination for most people from most countries around the world.

Pretty much a fact, I would think...but you may of course disagree if you must.

I haven't googled this either but there are other continents other than the Americas! Many people move around Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia to find different lives. The USA may be one of the major destinations but it is not the only one!

If Canada had a better climate I'm sure it would be a close second to an immigrant's homeland. I'm sure, if asked, anyone from somewhere else who has emigrated, would love to return to their native country were the conditions that caused them to leave in the first place reversed.

Climate be damned....I'm moving to Canada, anyway.

somewhat of a doppelganger,

but this other lady has a bit more flare than tired amicus:

Ann Coulter
Even a dying party has death throes. If Democrats win a slight majority in the House or Senate, Americans will get shrill, insane leadership of the nation in time of war.

Democrats can't not be crazy. They will instantly set to work enacting a national gay marriage law, impeachment hearings, slavery reparations and a series of new federal felonies for abortion clinic protesters. The only way to get Democrats to focus on terrorists would be to convince them that the terrorists are interfering with a woman's right to choose or that commercial jetliners exploding in midair are a threat to America's wetlands.

Is this some form of amicus-stalking come-on line? You seem to be trotting it out pretty regular-like. You could just send flowers, like normal folk.

(... = spare elipses for ami to use, I don't use them often, so I've got plenty left over for him)
