Its a significant stop on the way to the Republican nomination for GOP candidates in the US. The Ames is a straw poll--so its like a big ole county fair with food and stages and crowds milling about. It's been traditionally well respected as an indicator of a candidate's popularity and ability to organize his following.

I am absolutely terrified of the cluster-fuck awaiting by having a Democrat in office--given the choices--so I'm pretty interested in seeing what kind of Republican comes out on top. Presently, I got about a 95% chance of getting buttfucked for the next 4 years.

I'm crossing my fingers for this straw poll. I gotta know what's coming.

Considering Rudy, Freddy and Johnny McC all skipped Ames, I'm not sure how important these results really are.

It may kill Tommy Thompson's campaign. Finishing 6th in a field without Giuliani and McCain is pretty weak.
